Just an update. I called up the dealer in kolkata and he says that the stalling issue is fixed in MY16 streeties. The ecu is updated along with some minor changes in throttle bodies. Is it true? Or he just want to sell bikes by lying?

      Hi there,

I suggest you to do one thing - write an e-mail to that dealer and request him to mention the same in writing in reply to your mail.

I am owning a 2016 model (though I purchased by end of Sep-2015, I got the 2016 colours - mechanically there is no change in 2015 versus 2016).
I have done 5000 km till now and not facing stalling. My bike is entirely stock. But this just could be my luck. I am using bike every day to office and on the way conditions are quite dusty.

I proactively asked Pune dealer what I should do to prevent stalling. They said my bike is not expected to face problems - but the reason is not what your Kolkata dealer is giving.
They simply said that when people bring the bike to Euro spec, the air intake changes which allows more air into the bike and along with it more dust (I don't buy this theory really). In my case that won't happen and my bike's throttle body, stepper motor etc will not get dusty.

Not the best possible explanation - but the dealer said if I come to showroom they will explain more details to me. So I will do that at some point.

Another theory given by them - which I have not really agreed - is that Street Triple is the model that is used almost daily by nearly all users and hence it is more exposed to dust than any other super bikes including Daytona (these are mostly used on weekend according to dealer). So, it is more vulnerable to dusty conditions. That still doesn't explain why old 2009 Hayabusa etc don't face the stalling issues - surely they have got exposed to same amount of dust over 6-7 years that Street Triple got in 1 year right? Even if we consider the weekend only usage?

Despite all this, fact remains that Street is the most usable and friendly bike in its class which also happens to be great fun on straights or corners!

There are couple of good deals available with fully modified streets - those guys are upgrading to Litre class bikes - they say their bikes are not stalling. You can surely check these out and save a couple of lakhs - you are unlikely to get much discounts on Street as it is their best selling model (or may be 2nd best after Bonneville) and highly popular one..

I can share contact names with you if you wish...

          Hi Jeevan,

Love your thread, detailed explanations and help extended to everybody. Wish I lived in Poona - would have lined up to take a test ride of the Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory.
          Keep it going mate.

I am copy/pasting a reply on the stalling issue from Team-BHP and hope Triumph India take care of this issue permanently. This has been posted by a member "Quickdraw" who has started a dedicated thread on this issue.

"I got a phone call from Sunil Sharma of Triumph India yesterday, he has mentioned the company will be making an official statement on this on 25th April, also they are calling this issue something else, not stalling he used some other terms that I cant remember. I know a lot of us are very eager to hear what they have to say."

          Ride safe

          Cheers

Thanks for kind words, Cyborg (would love to know your real name ).

Triumph India is not giving clear answer to this problem so far. But the thing I am repeatedly stating is that - I AM NOT FACING THIS ISSUE.
Some dealers (e.g. Kolkata) are telling the customers that 2016 models are not going to face this issue.

I had asked a question by e-mail to Triumph India "How can I prevent this issue from happening at all - since so far I am not facing it?" They forwarded to local dealer (B U Bhandari) as if I was escalating against the dealer.

But I don't have anything to escalate against them as they (BUB folks) are always treating me well.

BUB said that my bike being stock should not face the issue (but there are some guys with stock bikes seeing this issue intermittently).
BUB also said that the issue is in general caused by dusty conditions and poor fuel. But I ride daily in dusty condition and not facing it. I am using good fuel though for most of the time (Shell V Power). Importantly, if dusty condition is the main issue, then older Hayabusa, R1, Ducati etc should be facing this problem too - especially Hayabusa and R1 have been sold in sufficient numbers and have been around for many years - Hayabusa is now even getting assembled in India suggesting it is surely a popular bike.

Triumph's own Daytona is rarely/not facing this issue (they said it is more a weekend bike so not accumulating dust like Street which is daily used by majority of owners). I didn't particularly agree this point.

So, I am not building too many hopes about what Triumph India will say on 25th April. If they truly accept the issue and provide a solution to all (and ways to prevent it for owners like me who are not yet facing it) then it would be a great image booster for them. I feel it should be relatively simple - as almost entirely the mechanical and electronic parts of the bikes for India and EU are same. The difference is only in tuning/set up. So, if they can rectify the ECU map or recalibrate whatever controls the stepper motor responsible for idling in a permanent manner, it should be fine.

            Which colour? Share some photos...Congratulations!

Just keep your speeds extremely slow when crossing any speed breakers - else you will end up scraping the bottom especially when any pillion is there with you. Otherwise it is a very good product.

Welcome Jeevan, my name is Kurush

I hope this issue gets resolved soonest because as you correctly mentioned a lot of people are getting put off brand Triumph (myself included). In my opinion while a manufacturer may have issues/problems with the product, its how they deal with it is what counts. Triumph India with the detuning fiasco and now this stalling issue are not giving confidence to the buyers which is paramount in such an expensive purchase, especially with the options available now. They should pull up their socks!

Maybe end of this year or beginning next year I too would be buying either the Street or the Z800, while the Speed is what I love the maximum. Lets see what happens.

                Cheers

                  Hi Kurush,

Important point! I have not really heard Speed Triple stalling Other thing is that existing Speed Triple is not yet getting phased out in India for at least 1 year or so.
Right now they are giving about Rs 1 LAKH discount on Speed Triple. If you really negotiate hard, may be you will get a bit more as well (they may give some amount of exchange bonus for existing bike over and above actual selling price of existing bike)

I read some reviews in which reviewers have rated Suzuki GSX-S 1000 slightly ahead of Speed Triple. Few days ago, there were some discounts on GSX-S as well - but not cash (I heard they were giving away really nice Kushitani or some such Japanese good brand leather jackets and other riding gear amounting to 1 Lakh)

Going for either Speed Triple or Suzuki GSX-S1000 could be a good choice. However, I am not aware of how good or bad is Suzuki's reputation when it comes to after sales service of superbikes. Triumph service is alright as per my experience - hopefully they don't really need to do anything complicated due to nature of modern bikes - just oil change, air filter replacement and so on...Nothing really complex needs to be done I guess. Triumph service will cost you about Rs 7000-8000 in one year and Rs 15-16000 in next year - this pattern is likely to repeat alternate years because alternate services are larger ones where multiple items get replaced (spark plugs, brake pads etc...need to check records of other Street Triple owners)

I faced same dilemma about Kawasaki Z800 - it is better value for money bike and is much more powerful too. But somehow I could not press myself towards it despite being nearly determined to go for it - simply because of light weight and comfortable feel of Street Triple - read my comments in detail in the beginning of this article.
But if you do choose Z800, you won't go wrong either - it is a very good motorcycle in its own way.

Somehow I have not liked Honda CBR 650F which is in same bracket as Z800. Z800 has some character and Street Triple has some character too...CBR 650F somehow doesn't feel the way I expect from a superbike. It is fast, smooth, decently comfortable and maintenance should be similar or cheaper than both Triumph and Kawasaki.
But it just didn't make emotional connect to me - that is just my personal opinion and there are lot of people who must be liking it. But certainly the cult of Street Triple is much bigger than CBR 650F for sure - and for a good reason which can't be expressed in words correctly!!

Have you taken test rides of following bikes:

                  1) Kawasaki Z800
                  2) Honda CBR 650F
                  3) Benelli TNT 899
                  4) Benelli 600i

Find out if Benelli will be providing ABS equipped model soon or not. If yes, it may be worth waiting and considering that product before making a decision
Benelli 600i is certainly not quick like other bikes mentioned here. Even Ninja 650 is marginally quicker than Benelli 600i. But it is still a good bike to consider if they will give ABS. I had loved its feel but didn't buy as I don't want without ABS.

If you have a bit more budget then worth thinking about

                  1) Ducati Monster 821 (don't think they are giving discount at the moment)
                  2) Triumph Speed Triple (1 Lakh discount!)
                  3) Suzuki GSX-S1000 (Some discount but not sure of amount)

Regarding the accessories , I have opted for fly screen, led indicators, fork protection and frame protection. I will install Arrows only after I do considerable amount of mileage on the bike.
Frame protection which one? IF you already have done the fitting, then ignore - but if not - definitely go for SW-MOTECH. These are best among all. Price approx INR 13000/-

Any way coming back to the topic i just recently heard about a KTM 800 ish twin that is supposed to be shown in this year's EICMA. Seems it should have about 100 ponies and im a sucker of light bikes. So that sounds delicious.

Besides this even after riding all of these bikes i still love the striple. But will not accept the 79 ps tune but the modded one. And thats clearly 10 lacs otr which makes me to think twice and to hold on the decision that wee bit longer as im not bike less now. The only other bike i loved is the GSX S. Its an animal when you give it the stick but sadly outta budget currently.

I am happy to hear you have no stalling issues and pray you never have to face it. Let's see what the guys from Triumph have to say on the 25th anyways.

The new model Speed is going to come with traction control and rider modes besides of ABS which is anyways standard. I like the idea of having more electronic aids, its much safer that way and that's why its better to wait . The India launch of the new Speed Triple should be by the end of this year, hence they are giving these large discounts to clear stock. Check on the reviews, its mind blowing. The R color of graphite grey and red is to die for. Have no idea whether they will launch the R version in India as yet. The new models are named as Speed Triple S and R.

I will have to read/check regarding the Suzuki GSX S1000, last I read there was a recall for some issue. After the launch have really not heard anybody in known circles buying or even discussing it seriously. Will do some research and update.

Agree with you on the CBR 650F too, it does not do anything for me either. Between Street and the CBR there is no contest in my mind - clear winner is the Street!

                      Cheers

                          Minor Update:

So far I have covered 5400 km on my Red Rose. No stalling issue seen yet. I have kept the bike totally stock on purpose as I have heard from few people that those who are facing stalling issues are getting statements from Triumph that "you have modified the bike so......". I think that is a bad strategy in general - this has surely put my plans to upgrade with Arrow Exhaust and related other mods on hold - so who is losing business? Triumph! May be I will wait through entire warranty period of 2 years if this is going to be their stand.

Also there are some rumours that a solution has been found for stalling issues. Not sure what is going on - but I will stick to stock state for now to avoid getting into any warranty hassles.

                          More Update:

Went for a ride to LAVASA yesterday (07-May-16).

                          Adding few photos, videos etc.

Importantly, now I am finding more confidence to take the fast sweeping turns as well as shifting body weight from side to side and flick the bike.
Able to avoid earlier tendency of pushing body weight in opposite direction compared to bike (more like dirt riders) and getting into groove to lean body into the corner so that body leans a bit more than the bike...Able to look into turns better as well...Handled sharp hair pins with incline/decline better than previous attempts this time...

I think in few months it is a good progress. Hopefully through winter of 2016 and early part of 2017, I should be able to get confidence to drag my knees without getting hurt.

Now there will be a significant break in my riding because of rainy season that will arrive soon. So, next proper ride likely only in September....This is not a bike that I can ride during rains. That is not because of my confidence being low on wet roads or anything like that though!

It is simply because there is no mud protection at either ends and if the bike gets dirty, cleaning it up will be a huge task. Also the fact that rider and people behind the bike will get subjected to dirty water/mud sprays! Don't want to do this to myself or others either!

So far I have covered 5400 km on my Red Rose. No stalling issue seen yet. I have kept the bike totally stock on purpose as I have heard from few people that those who are facing stalling issues are getting statements from Triumph that "you have modified the bike so......". Update:

I think I am seeing some symptoms of the infamous stalling issue - but not actual stalling yet...Sometimes I am seeing engine idle RPM dropping to 1000 at times when I suddenly had to stop in traffic - where I had to combine suddenly pressing the clutch, totally reduce the throttle to zero and brake sharply to come to a halt in a moment - this is of course during bumper to bumper traffic at slow speeds of may be 30 kmph to 0 kmph literally in a flash....

Will keep people informed if I do see the issue.

Oh crap Jeevan, hope it does not develop into the issue as it can be very dangerous.

Why don't you start bugging the Triumph people in Poona for a solution again.

On a separate note - read loads of reviews on the Suzuki GSX S 1000 and almost all reviewers were unanimous about "abrupt throttle reponse" at slow speeds which spoils an otherwise great ride experience. Perhaps it could be taken care of by some sort of throttle remap, but this issue definitely exists from the factory.

                                Cheers
