    Update:

Completed exact 1 year today with my Red Rose! She is scheduled for 1st annual service on 03-Oct-16. Will keep posted about the same.

Denali Soundbomb Mini is proving quite useful in traffic madness Cyclops headlights are now very well complimented with the pilot lamps also being LED now...I will soon add some photos of how they look in dark.

Also planning to do a ride this weekend so should have first ever proper GoPro video capture coming up.

          Hey Suraj,

Great to know you are going for Daytona. As long as you have set yourself the right expectations, it is absolutely fantastic motorcycle. It is a hard core racing bike and hence not exactly made for day to day traffic or bad roads. It has aggressive seating position - but that and its full fairing makes it a delight on twisties or race tracks!

Its sound even without after market exhaust is sufficiently good and it is very sweet handling bike...Just keep control on yourself and you should be able to enjoy it for long times to come!

One important thing: The infamous stalling issue doesn't seem to affect Daytona as much - I never heard Daytona and Speed Triple riders complaining that issue.
I have now touched 8000 km and haven't faced stalling on my Red Rose though.

Daytona will be a pain to ride in bumper to bumper traffic so I hope you have kept a spare bike or scooter (!!) as a secondary vehicle for yourself!
This is why I went for Street though I too of course loved Daytona. Street is quite practical for daily use yet sufficiently fun.

I was hoping to ride my bike last weekend for a longer distance but rains again played spoil-sport. Hoping that this Sunday I would give it the open breathing environment it needs (i.e. highways that allow fast riding ).

BTW - I postponed servicing of my bike - as I found some very good deals on Amazon.in for Motul 300V 10W40 oil at Rs 787/litre which is pretty much same price as standard Castrol Power 1 Racing oil that Service Centre people put in. So I have decided to switch to Motul this year.

I will report once actually service happens - but definitely I expect smoothness from Motul compared to Castrol (have seen this in my KTM Duke 200 in the past).

I also happen to own a D200 now its been 2 years, did you sell you D200 because i am going to keep it so that i have the fun of naked as well as fullfaired Daytona.

If i had RC200/390 then i would have gone for the street or speed triple (mumbai triumph are giving discount of 1 lac price as same as Daytona 675 ie12.4)

Great to hear that you have not been facing the infamous stalling issue sir

Daytona will be a pain in the ass as well but that are some of the perks (lol) of owning a super sport i guess and for the experience she gives man i am willing to face it.

I wonder why Triumph don't use Motul or shell oil even when their bike have high CR and also do post the cost of service.

The wait is killing me, this agony.. i also think whether other bike nuts also face the same issue, i cope myself my watching videos i wonder what other do..

My colleagues call me Daytona not with my name

              Hey Suraj,

Sure, Daytona is great in corner carving and hence it can do things that naked street sports can't..Especially if you are going to do track riding, then there can't be substitute to a proper sport bike even though Street Triple is indeed a good track machine. Adjustable suspension, light and stiff chassis, aerodynamics and superior brakes of Daytona put it far ahead along with extra horses and Pirelli Super Corsa tyres which it has!

Motul is a French brand, Shell is Dutch brand. Triumph and Castrol are both British brands - that could be one reason and other must be that Triumph would be getting a better deal from Castrol.

Contrary to what people say, it is not as if the bike has any less performance when you have Castrol Power 1 Racing oil in the engine. It is just that Motul gives some extra smooth feeling. Actual difference might not be there in speed/pick up owing only to change of engine oil or even if it is there, you won't really notice except on a lengthy race track with several laps.

My Red Rose is doing speeds of 180-200 kmph so easily that it is difficult to believe! Daytona will be much faster - so just be super careful in wherever you ride.

One Slightly SAD Update from my side:

On Sunday, I was traveling towards Baramati near Pune. I was at really moderate speed due to road being quite narrow and there was some traffic as well.
In a specific stretch just after Jejuri, there was an overbridge (above a Railway line) and the surface was decent. Since I was following one car at about 50-60 kmph, I didn't have long distance visibility - I just had few meters between car and myself to allow myself quick braking if anything happened. All of a sudden, my front wheel ended up hitting a crater which was fairly deep and had a sharp edge. There was no time to react since I had no chance to see this one and I didn't take any swerving action due to narrow road and presence of traffic. I just had to go through the motion without losing control or without any direction changes.

I did this but I knew at that moment there would be damage.

It resulted in a significant dent on Front Rim of my bike. I have shown it to Triumph Service Centre in Pune. They advised that it is a relatively easy to repair kind of damage and should cost about Rs 3-4000 to fix it. They said that this kind of thing happens to quite a few people and repair is quite effective without any compromise in performance.

Other option is to claim under insurance but that can lead to long waiting time (About 8-10 days of insurance process - this could be reduced possibly. About 30-40 days to get rim imported - this I heard always takes that long and generally these kind of pricey items are not in stock.)

Note: New rim is quoted about Rs 43000 as on 10-Oct-2016!

Based on Triumph's advice, I decided to go with repair as I don't want to get into such lengthy wait when there is reliable fix available at reasonable cost - next week this will be done as they had their hands full this week. There is no air loss and I was told that it is safe to ride the bike for normal commuting but should not try high speed riding on it till repair is done. This is ok with me as anyway I need it for commute to office.

Please ensure that there wasn't any crack along with the dent. I had the same incident on my bike, on first sight I only noticed that there was a dent on the rim.
I took the bike to the service center and I noticed there was a minor crack as well along with the dent. It's better to claim insurance and get the alloy replaced altogether to avoid any future inconvenience.

I am sure Daytona rims would be costlier! But it is not as if any other brand is cheaper in this segment (600-800 cc). Kawasaki Z800 spares are equally costly. I am not sure of Honda CBR 650F though.

I am totally ok - except for the dent on my mind Once we buy these expensive things, we become so materialistic! If we get hurt, it is painful and it is understandable - but if the bike which isn't a living being gets dented - we still get hurt as if we ourselves got hit - that isn't understandable for most normal people

I have been to showroom already and they said it is not cracked and damage is not so severe and should be repairable. Still I will check once again.

                      Hi Jeevan,

Saddened to hear about about your rim getting damaged, but, looking at the positive side, its great you did not have a fall which could have been really bad.

Since you regularly ride really fast I don't think you should take the chance of repairing the rim even though the Triumph people say its fine. Its your life on the line not theirs! I believe once the rim has a significant dent and its repaired, it would exponentially increase the risk of a failure and since you regularly ride so fast its just not worth the risk.

Since you can ride with the dent why not go thru the insurance procedure and have it replaced. Spend some money and buy permanent peace of mind and and much more importantly, safety.

                      Ride safe.

                      Cheers

Thanks - on second thoughts I also felt the same and decided already not to go with repair. I will go for replacement - have already ordered the new rim kit (it comes with bearings etc). Repair isn't worth because it takes about Rs 4000 + we have to pay separately for removing and fitting the wheel back (not sure but still could be at least Rs 300) + need to carry to the repair shop and back by taxi/rickshaw (at least Rs 500-600).. Repair process affects the colour - so we have to get whole wheel repainted (touch up will not look same as original colour) - this is about Rs 1200. Red sticker on wheel rim would also have to be purchased - another Rs 1200-1500...Overall it is too much effort, too much money and not a peace of mind solution..

It is better to use zero depreciation insurance and get it replaced due to risk involved in such high speed bikes. Only problem is it will take a long time for the replacement to arrive (30-40 days at least!). Unfortunately this scenario exists with all imported bikes as parts will come directly from UK in Triumph's case (Japan for Kawasaki, Italy for Ducati etc).

                            Update:

First Annual Service done. Expenses: Rs 10500 + Oil (Motul 300V) Rs 3200 approx ~ Overall about Rs 14000.
Odo is around 8500 km as of now.
Main component that caused such costs were the front brake pads (about Rs 5000 for set of two - one for each front disk).
Motul does feel a bit smoother than OEM oil which is Castrol Power 1 Racing.

The replacement rim is going to take much longer (I guess at least one more month if not more) but till then I am riding as it is and there is no significant vibration or any instability due to bent rim. However, I am avoiding continuous speeding just to be on safer side.

Which grade does the triple manual recommend?

                                Manual mentions 2 possibilities

10W40 and 10W50. I have gone with 10W40. But there are people using 15W50 also for same bike.
