Still the replacement wheel rim has not arrived. I have contacted the service centre and they are expected to give an update - but this sure is a long drawn process.

Update:

I checked with service centre and they said rim is expected around 15-Dec-16. So I hope this will be addressed soon. Meanwhile I do continue to ride.

Motul is much better.
The manual also allows 15w-50. For my bike that works better. Considering the temperatures here in India, a heavier oil does well. Cheers!

10W40 and 10W50 are mentioned in manual for Street Triple - but yes people do use 15W50 also. I am not too sure of the heavier oil doing better in our conditions always.

I am worried about the fact that most engine wear appears at the start after a several hours of break because much of the oil particles would descend down to the sump though some will stick to the walls. A heavier (as in a bit more viscous) oil will take more time to warm up and spread around in first few seconds of running if I understand correctly.
Also more viscous oil will in general increase friction a bit and doesn't always work better.

To draw a parallel - not exact one though - my Honda City iVTEC car engine allows for 10W30 and even 5W40 oils like Shell Helix Ultra are considered suitable for this engine. But somehow, I felt that Shell didn't perform as good as expected in starting and slow speed driving conditions despite it being more accomplished brand than standard Idemitsu brand oil that Honda provides at the service centre. With 10W30 (Idemitsu), engine felt more rev happy and with 5W40 (Shell) it was slightly less eager. At first I thought this was just in my mind - but I switched between these oils multiple times and now I am sticking to Idemitsu 10W30. Even mileage is slightly more for standard oil in Honda City - despite it being much cheaper option than Shell.

My experience of Shell or other premium oils was opposite in Fiat Palio Stile 1.6 Sport. That engine performed better with Shell rather than standard oil that FIAT showroom used to provide. Maybe it has something to do with heavy/light nature of mechanical parts and also whether machining tolerances are very tight - probably Honda has very tight tolerances so heavier oil caused different effect than intended.

I need your sincere help on helping me to choose Street Triple, I went through thread, it is very exciting. I stumbled on a second hand Street Triple 2015 mfg and 2016 registered. I have checked the bike visually, following are the observations.

1) Bike registered to Mr.GopalaKrishnan in Karnataka. Cannot trace him
2) It had an accident ( not much Details i am trying to get it from Keerthi Triumph Service center, i am not finding much co-operative).
3) The second owner has used it for 400Kms for few months and now is selling it back, has not registered on his name.
4) No Insurance copy of the bike.
5) Bike Lock doesnot work, second owner has ordered for replacement worth 20K.

I am willing to spend by hard earned money on this, But need to get enough confidence to go ahead.

Other alternative are: Benelli 600i ABS and Street 750 ABS.

My Riding requirement: Leisure and relaxed riding, But need to have enough power to rock sometimes.


Please advice, Want to close it soon.

Madan,

While Jeevan and others will definitely give you their views on the Street as owners, my advise to you is to stay away from this particular bike after what you have mentioned above. Its too fishy a deal, the first owner cannot be traced, it has had an accident of which there are no details.

Forget this bike and look for something else.

I spoke to Mr.Vishnu in Keerthi triumph Bangalore, he is willing to help me check the bike's condition with his service technician tomorrow. About the accident details, i am trying to trace out any records from service center, They have acknowledged, that the bike did had accident.

More updates is: The second owner got the bike from a 3rd person in Hassan, without insurance copy, many a times got it serviced or handled by local mechanics for Arrow Slip On Exhaust.

The bike is quoted at 8.85L i am thinking at 7.7L it has run 5100kms.

Any references in Keerthi Triumph would definitely help. Apparently the second owners are also present in Team-bhp.

Get your mech to have a look if possible. Inspect the frame closely and if it seems damaged, skip the deal.

BTW I just found a decent deal for STS ABS 2015 mfg on a Facebook group.

But let me ask you, if it is the same bike with above history, will it be still good/worth deal at 6L or less , if it didn't have insurance, No warranty on the vehicle ?

I'd not buy it because ST is a high performance machine and with it being involved in an accident is a major point. That being said, the history not that bike is kinda sketchy.

So IMO no deal.

I got the information that the frame is bent by 10mm on left side w.r.t to right side. And service people lifted their hands on repairing it. Looks like I have to drop it.

I don't know how serious it matters at high speed stability and braking, And service people lifted their hands on repairing it. History now Looks clear, now it is only the bike, are our Indian service centers really incapable of handling such repairs? Looks like I have to drop it.

Service centres are capable enough, but these are high performance bikes and frame is crucial part of a bike and repairing a bend frame would not revert it to original one but would affect performance. SVC must have advised to replace the frame altogether.
