  • Balius 250 arrives, MUST read for COMET 250 Fans.

Hey dudes, I just read about a new bike from Kawasaki. Its Kawasaki Balius II (ZR250B).

It seems like a cool bike all set to outperform COMET 250. Its Max speed is 184 kph while comet's is < 140. It is a liquid cooled, 16 valve, 249cc FOUR (yes dudes FOUR) cylinder bike producing 40 bhp against comet's 30 bhp. It seems to offer much more than COMET 250 with a minor price difference. It just costs 25000 more.

Okay now the price. Approx 2 Lacs.

It has been brought to India by Bajaj Auto Ltd. but the strange part is that they are just showing it and have not decided yet about launching plan.

I read about it in the June 2004 issue of Business Standard Motoring. The guy who wrote the article mentions that he had to deposit Rs 2 Lac to test ride it. He got his money back after returning the bike. Seems kinda funny, or is it standard practise ?

The guy also mentioned in his article that if the readers like this bike and would like to see it launched, they should send their mails to [email protected] I have already sent my mail. If this bike costs 2 lacs on road, I am willing to buy it.

There are around five pics in the article and from the looks, it seems like a heavy superbile. Will try to scan and post the pics if this post seems to generate some interest.

What remains to be seen is its accleration part. I have no data right now. I was very keen to see how COMET 250 does in Indian market. Now this Kawasaki Balius has entered the scene. Lets see what happens.

The era of performance bikes have begun in India. God willing, we shall see more powerful bikes, at much affordable prices.

interesting info..... 184kmph from 250 ceecees!! thats pretty good considering the mileage-minded indian bike makers. also is this bike a bajaj-kawa collaboration or is it only KAWASAKI.....if it is then shouldn't only Kawasaki do the marketing...i mean can BAJAJ AUTO sell it? no doubt the Kawasaki will trump the Comet in performance....there's no way any indian bike can come even close to it (besides the RD350)...

okay...i have asked this question before and i WILL ask it again---how is it possible that the pillion on the HORNET dont end up getting a calf-burn......just look at the exhaust design.....anybody ridden a hornet here???

The seat appears to be elevated and the foot rest is high so may be the calf and hamstring dont touch the diff. But still there is always a chance of accidendal touch..the honda engineers will be knowing better...mail them.

Small facts : Balius II ZR 250B has a six speed gearbox, has disc brake in rear as well (naturally :-) ) and it handles quite well even at slower commuting speeds.

Just found an old article (June 1998) on old Balius 250A (Grin Factor 10 : a ride impression of the Kawasaki Balius) ( http://www.ulysses.org.au/ridingon/r..._59/page_5.htm )
Dudes please note, the one we all are raving about is Balius II 250B. I would love to get hold of some accleration figures on this bike. Will post them here as soon as I find them.
