        I have a special bond with a 954RR.
        It was with me for a day.My friend kept it at my house at 7 pm. I was staring at her till 2 am. Woke up at 7 am and started staring again. Dad was curious why i am acting in such a way . My whole family adored the bike. Told everyone in the family that this IS the bike that i will be buying. Moreover the bike is simply fantastic to ride! Does it have a Micron exhaust? And a completely reverse color scheme also exists.

            Locking the front and flipping is the worst experience you could err experience.

After talking to the right people and looking at the right places, settling the deal, a great little day journey began.

                  The bike developed two problems on the way. (though I believe it was more of a gradually pressing issue blown up by the hard ride)

                  * A slightly torn right fork seal
                  * HVix Servo Motor kaput

                  I had always kept a buffer for this, because I thought that a bike which had done 14000+ kays would require new tyres, new diskpads, maybe new parts. Thankfully, the Bridgestone Battlax tyres in the bike still have treads, provide amazing grip in all weather conditions. While coming back, handling of the bike was a bit twitchy at the later stages of the trip, and I suspected because of the imbalanced front forks. One had oil, one did not. This was confirmed when I gave the bike for its first service at Top Gear (Harsha's Garage). There also were error codes flashing for the bike at the time I went for service. Service manual pointed out that there was something wrong with the EGCV valve and servo motor. And of course, it was correct. Luckily, Harsha knows all too well about this, as he has a 929 himself (954's papa with most of the same motors and error codes running the valve system).

                  Now, this servo motor activates an Exhaust Gas Control Valve (EGCV) used for noise emission limits. If the servo motor breaks the Exhaust Gas Control Valve remains open. So it going kaput meant a loss of low end power. Harsha told me about a by pass for the error codes not to flash and a way that most 954 owners used to retain low end boost. I was a bit apprehensive about this but upon reading the forums in the internet, it was quickly evident that Harsha knew very well what he was talking about so until the part arrives next month or so, this was going to be the "ju-gaad".
                  Pranay: Good to know that you are enjoying the bike and better still is knowing that you are apparently taking a keen interest in its servicing and repairs.

                  The EGCV usually suffers and is the first casualty in a bike that can rarely be revved to its potential and also rarely gets fuel of the quality and secifications that it demands and deserves.

                  I said 'revved' because higher rpm's usually prevent deposits of carbon on the valve body. And low grade fuel further accentuates the issue of left-behind deposits.

                  Usually, the servo-motor does not fail initially. It is the valve that gets jammed by either carbon accumulation or other combustion residue. The servo motor tries to move the jammed valve and if the valve is stuck hard and fast inside the valve body, the motor burns itself out. There is no over-load protector for so small and lightly laded a servo motor as this.

                  I do believe Harsha has satisfied himself on this issue and that its the motor that finally failed rather than just deposits that are preventing the valve from operating. The valve can be dis-assembled, cleaned, reassembled and re-fitted.

                  The EGCV valves and its generic relations on subsequent fireblades have given ample heartburn to Honda owners, esp in countries where fuel quality is not dependable. Our own @fireblah is one such example.

                  This fault is all the more obvious to riders here in India because we usually depend on the low-end torque to make our moves in traffic and can rarely get roads that allow usage of the otherwise excellent and unaffected top-end of these bikes. We miss the absent low-end almost as soon as we loose it.

                  Anyway, best wishes for your new ride. You also have a PM.

                  Ride long and safe...

                    @ Old Fox : There is alot of carbon deposit on the insides of my bike's exhaust. Should i be worried ??

                      Your bike has already kept you very worried Vishal. No, don't worry...in the sense that you can't avoid it. Once in a while though, of course on a suitable stretch of road, pull the bike hard (almost to the red line) in first. That clears the softer and more profuse of the residues.
