    Guess the marwari pump owners have decided to dissuade their sons from buying a superbike through not stocking octane 97 anymore !     Mumbai also had a shortage for 2weeks, i guess they running out of supply, it should be available in few days in kolkata, keep fingers crossed

      2 bunks in Bangalore had run out of Speed 97 yesterday...
      Stocks are up in all the available bunks today...Some issues with their distribution(told by the manager at a BP bunk)....
      I guess should be fine by this weekend....

          Probably Oldfox or Sunny should be able to answer that, since they had toured Eastern India on SBKs(not sure if Guwahati was a stop-over)...

          Contact the BPCL East India Sales Rep manager(should give an insight into also why Kolkata is out of Speed 97)

              Hello People! I desperately need 97 octane fuel in Pune. The pump opp RTO Doesnt have Speed 97 any more (Is what I have heard). Is this true? Please guide me on where to find 97 octane fuel in Pune at earliest. Thanks Hemank

                  I'm afraid most petrol stations have completely discontinued optional high octane fuel due to the rigid scenario in which they have to operate... doesn't make business sense to them yet. Gets me jittery thinking about +12:1 compression ratio bikes without compensatory measures.

                  Refined to a higher degree. Can withstand higher compression ratios inside the combustion chamber resulting in more accurate/designated spark timing in high performance bikes.

                  Higher octane fuel or (97 octane) lets the machine you ride to compress the air/fuel mixture to a higher level of compression usually required for SBKs without self combustion inside the chamber (pinging sound). Using lower octane fuels will normally effect the performance of bikes with high compression ratios.

                    Octane number indicates level of resistance of fuel to self ignition at high pressures. ,when fuel operates inside cylindrical block(layman~engine) it has to dealt with high temp. And pressure. Now ideally, fuel should be burned only when spark plug is initiated (in petrol) or compression stroke is in motion(diesel) .but as per nature, fuel of low quality and addictives can burn without spark plug ignition on higher temp+pressure which is undesired. So a rating system known as octane no. Is used to determine how much better/poor a type of fuel will perform and resist self ignition.
                    Normal petrol (ex the one I use in my 200ns) has a octane rating of 87.
                    Superbikes require higher octane rating (min 92) to perform in optimum way, (you can guess why) .
                    Oh sorry forget to mention, For diesel, octane no. Is not used. CETANE NO. is used (same work as octane No, only diff name)
                    Fun fact, Cng has a octane number of Whooping 540...!!!

                              Vineeth - havent come across any BPCL outlets providing 97 in Thrissur - the only outlets I have seen are in Kochi.
