Hi once again started working on this bike of mine,

After splitting the crankcase & cleaning up found out that the crankcase still has the Labyrinth metal seal & bearing which has checkoslavakia on it ( I have spelled it wrong for sure) want to replace the old bearing , the mech says as we cant source the metal "L "seal lets replace it with rubber one ,

so asking the members here is this advisable or should I use the metal L sealback again after replacing the new bearing ?

Yes! You can go for rubber seals. Most of the time those L seals don't need replacement as they are never in touch with the case (Works on different principle than those rubber seals) so no wear and tear

on double barrel bike like RD350, L seals are highly preferred. If using rubber seals in them then they will need to press out the whole crank in parts to replace them(If ever needed)
On the jawa250, It can be replaced easily. So I would suggest you to stick with L seal. If it doesn't do the job then you can go for rubber ones
Bikes don't leak oil, They mark their territory.

Just stumbled upon this thread. Seems to be a very tedious project. Kudos for taking it on!!

Regarding the oil seal, what would the condition of the metal seal be? In most cases, the metal seal obviously stands more abuse than the rubber one, but this bike seems to have seen its bad days already. Safer option is to put in a new seal, since you're re-doing the whole engine anyway. No point in ruing it later.

Oh, and whats the progress with the bike now, crankrd?

                Cheers,
                Rahul

The engine is done finally, also half the work done (chassis) just waiting for the rear mudguard from another Jawa owner.
