    Nice!
Couple of my friends here recently restored their RD's.Both with the exact paint scheme. One one of them in particular was so shiny and neat!was like looking into a mirror!he restored it by importing parts frm the UK.took only a pic in my phone but have requested him and his friends for a photoshoot with all the 2 stokers!

Next was the painting and sticker work / decals

Fortunately the 2TOil tank that we got had the original color (though faded)

We matched the color with something called "Berry Red" for Hyundai Cars.

The sticker wallah was a moron and took nearly a week to get the stickering done.

In the mean while the tank had to be repainted coz the paint had caught some dust.

Finally the stickering was done and the stuff looked like this:

After Lacquer, the stuff looked like this

        US Spec 39bhp..wow!

Alok - That's a lovely restoration project. I did not see the rear fender on the chrome job done along. Have got that from abroad? Did side-stand came painted or chromed?

Good One Yaar. PAINT JOB is actually nice but rather doing sticker job you should do the same kind of painting with dual color painting which now a days very popular on bullet. Red + pearl white color would be sexiest one.

Wanted to go for stock scheme as we are considering this to be a 100% restoration job, we want everything as close to orig. So we decided on the stickers istead of 2 tone paint just like the original

The Silencers were dentless. So were the header pipes (All imported from USA)

We have 2 2t oil tanks, one with the oil window, the second without ...

                  Got both painted.

Great start Alok. I wonder why you opted for Dykes type pistons/rings as its a 1979 import. you should also be getting an OE oil tank window glass to keep the orig. look i believe. What about the guages? Those pipes look lovely. Damn im having probs fitting the US pipes on my Indian chassis but they sure sound great!

Dykes type rigns and pistons will give better compression.

The oil tank does have the window on it. The spare one does not.

Gauges work OK (Have an another set too).

The silencers mount differently on the US and Indian chassis.

Ignition is the regular CB points

Carbs and 2T pump are in great shape (were on the bike when we got it)

The regular Bullet "Batla" coils are being used on the bike coz it does not make sense importing the original coils that were made 40 yrs ago and may not work. Too big a risk considering the fact that the cost and shipping is high.

Yes the spares itself cost a little more than a completely restored Indian RD.

The cost of the bike was also high coz it was a fully functional bike.

By the time thee bike is fully done, the cost will be twice of that of a fully restored Indian RD.

But that's the easy part. The tough part was the slow agonizing wait for the spares to reach us.

It was april 2010 when we got the bike. It is now May 2011.

13 months. Hope our labor of love bears fruit!!!

                            Wish us luck!!
