          1940 Standard Flying 8

The Flying Eight was the smallest member of the Standard Flying family.
Introduced in 1938 the Flying Eight featured, in its saloon form, the "streamlined" body of the little Standard Flying Nine which had appeared in 1937. However, the Flying Eight came powered by a side-valve 1021 cc long-stroke (100 mm) engine to keep it in the British 8 hp taxation class which calculated the annual license payable according to cylinder surface area. In this case the bore was of just 56.7 mm. A single Solex carburetor was used and the engine could produce 28 bhp at 4000 rpm. Drive was to the rear wheels through a 3-speed synchromesh gearbox. The suspension was independent at the front with a transverse leaf spring at the rear. A top speed of around 65 mph was attainable. Brakes were cable operated using the Bendix system.
          Technical details
          Engine: 1021 cc Straight-4
          Power: 28bhp @4000rpm
          Transmission: 3-speed manual
          Wheelbase: 83 inches (2108 mm)
          Length: 139 inches (3531 mm)
          Width: 56 inches (1422 mm)

          Restoration took around 6 months.....
The front grill was missing, replicated the shell from existing car from Hyderabad, vertical slats made from 6mm steel rods.
Still searching for original steering wheel....

Vintage cars and bikes are always a head-turner and every Yamaha, Ducati or any bike or car owner has to bear the risk of being utterly neglected in front of them....

Sir, your collection is awsome... glued to this thread to read and learn....

I am amazed by the power, engine capacity of the vintage cars... i never thought them to be so powerfull at least in engine terms...

Planning a ride of South India in Jan 2012... Mangalore added and with your permission the opportunity to see the collection of these gems....

On a lighter note.. from the dialogue of the movie Deewar... a new guy may say... Mera Pass Merc hai, audit hai, BMW hai, Ducatti hai... tumhare pass kya hai... an you can just say... mere pass insab ke BAAP hein..
WARNING!! Objects seen in Mirror are Disappearing Rapidly!!!!!!
