  • Kawasaki Bajaj KB - Trackster

Hello to everyone here the oldies at Xbhp will know that once I had posted a thread about how I got my 1989 KB100 restored in 2006, this bike was passed on from my uncle who bought it new and this bike had a lot of "Made in Japan" components, I went to Hyderabad in 2008 and since then the bike is parked at my home town in Agra. Recently got its RC renewed for 5 more years and will be bringing her back to Indirapuram where I stay.

The entire KB series has always facinated me because of the rotary value mechanism and the exhaust tone. It is also special to me because this is the bike on which kick started my passion for motorbikes.

    Now why this thread...

Recently found a picture of a track modded KH100 from the internet, the owner claims that this KH100 is capable of speeds upto 170 kmph, this kickstarted the idea...why not build something like this...to be continued

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Well like its the Yamaha madness in India, there is a madness for the 2stroke Kawasaki in the US and Japan.

This looks like a drag spec or atleast a race spec bike, It would be great if you could get going on something like this. All the best.

started with finding a donor bike (dont want to play with my KB's existing engine or panels), searched Quickr, Sulekha and asked a couple of friends, for now found two KBs -

        1. Noida...1990...Delhi registration...asking price 8K
        2. Gurgaon...year not known...registration not known...asking price not known

But target date to acquire the donor bike is this weekend (12-13 May)

Wish you Very Good Luck....Remember the KB100 is not a Track bike..It has Cast iron bore which reduces it's performance with heat...
My personal best speed with Expansion chamber and rest all stock was 120 Kmph ,and i still had some juice left...The rotary disc valve keeps the Inlet timing perfect all the time, and helps in good acceleration, coupled with the dynamic variable Ignition timing.

Thanks for the good wishes...I really need them considering that I am still to acquire the donor bike, and am on a shoe string budget (less than 12K for the total project) let me make a few things clear -

              1. "Trackster" is not being built with the intention of running on the track, if I ever get a chance, I will take my RD 350
              2. The sole purpose of this creation is to achieve 120 kmph true top speed without compromising a lot on reliability of the engine, and make something exotic and beautiful (I personally found the KH100 track bike very beautiful)
              3. Weekend ride (apart from my RD) that I can take around the town with a lot of fun factor
              4. Something that I can display in old bike meets that keep happening in Delhi

Now a few questions to the KB veterans here -
              1. Is it possible to convert the KB100's 4 speed gearbox into a 5 speed ?
              2. Where can I find a good expansion chamber (please do not suggest KRP), I am also exploring the possibility of creating one myself with the help of MOTA software
              3. Is there a way to fit a bigger carb, I know that the side panel will need to be removed

1.The Stock bike on 3rd or 4th oversize piston with proper setting in can do 120 Kmph WITH Expansion .Mota will help you..get a good Sheet Metal worker/welder and you are set. The expansion chamber is the single most important performance enhancer in Two stroke engines.
                2. The KH100 B7 came with 5 speed GB...you may have to source it from abroad.
                3. If your need is to do 120 Kmph, then the stock carb can deliver it at 1~1.5 turns from closed (stock 2~2.5), of the Air screw on carb.

For expansion I was planning the design myself and then would give it to a sheet metal worker for fabrication.
Is there something else that can be done then importing KH100 B7's GB would cost a bomb ? I heard that there is some "jugaad" that can be done by removing the 2T oil pump gear and managing to fit a fifth gear sourced from RX bin (after this mod the bike will run on a pre-mix, though I feel this is not possible, but is it technically possible ? or can the Prowler GB fit the KBs ? I believe Prowler was 5 speed
Wont the jetting need a change ?

about the 5th gear, your best bet would be the prowler's gear assembly. can't comment on yamaha stuff. i guess there would be issues with the size if the idler gear which is meshed with the kicker gear. you'll also have to consider a different gear change drum and gear shift forks.
all the best. will watch closely

Major road block....Gurgaon guy is not interested in selling and the Noida chap is not ready to negotiate. Asking price 8K for KB100 Delta Super Tuned, I would have paid this amount had the bike been in acceptable condition. Bike rides but clutch is slipping, petrol tank is all rusted with no paint left on the top portion, chain guard all rusted, chassis had sign of rusting as well at the joints, meter console broken, RC expired way back in 2006, no insurance. When I requested him to negotiate the chap says "isse kam main to aise hee khadi rahegi to hee theek hai" (anything less than what I am asking and I would keep the bike standing in the parking).

Then when we were leaving he offered 500\- less but my well known two stroke tuner friend told me that anything above 5K would be waste of money because of the condition of the bike, and we left.

I am now back to square one, anyone here who knows a decent KB for sale in Delhi NCR region please PM me, until then the search is on again...

Sorry to know that you couldn't get the KB...but from what you say it is not worth more than 4~5K...BUT Rusted chasis is not acceptable....so is the Tank...With RC expired in 2006 you will pay a lot of money to bring it to current year and RC acceptable condition....
Thank God you did not go for it.

I dont think Yamaha stuff will work here. If possible get hold of a KH100 or 125 Gearbox. Rookie will it be possible to find a Prowlers gearbox? Btw when are we meeting up to check out each others bikes?
