  • Oldest dream rx100 - to be remade soon

    HI GUYS
This is NISAR , once again sharing with u about my rx100 which i bought from my classmate for 12k on 2nd june 2012. As soon as i paid the money i went to fetch some fuel from the nearest bunk. Poured in some fuel and oil and kicked it. Magical result!!! even after long timed restfull engine it didnt make ane problems in starting. one kick. Piston is in best run and the beats sounded so good.

I wanted to buy a rx100 after i finish my college but this bikes offer came to me when my classmate planned to give off his dads rx and get a fZ for him. I got a call frm him asking me to take his bike for a reasonable price of 12k. i didnt give a second thought. within hal an hour i reached selvapuram and paid him some token and made it mine.

I am not able to even sleep. Overjoyed since this bike has arrived.

    some details reg bike -

    model - 1994
    colour - maroon
    fc expired

For a sum of 12k i got this gem. Still i cant believe that i have got this for 12k only. I am still thanking my friend to have sold the bike to me as promised long before. I had an eye on his bike from 2nd year of my coll. finally it arrived at my garage.

I have fixed a budget of 15k for its remake. Cosmetics are to be done in full. I have decided to make its look match my previous rx135 which i made some months back,.

    replacements -
front and back fender / flaps
    back tail light assembly
    indicators
rims and spokes ( truing or replacement)
    key switch and lock set
    head light assembly
    seat plate and seat covers
    foot rests
    rubber kit ( full)
    accel grips
    hand bar( chroming or new)

    painting -

    engine ( silver grey)
tank and side covers ( maroon matt finish without stickers)
chroming ( bolts, spokes, engine head, saree gaurd, bumper)
chase , fork legs, footrest, backstay, rear light brackets, sppedo brackets, etc ( black paint)

Ill keep you people updated with the spares i buy.
I hope to get full support from you seniors here.

Ill post the dismantling pics soon once my univ exam gets over. I am gathering some tools for self dismantling since some parts goes missing when my mechanic does the work. I am trying to utilise the old parts as far as possible( like switches , side lock, speedometer casings, battery tubes and small parts, etc)

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

@Nisar: Wonderful. Restore in stock condition which is the best for RX100. Small tips:- Do not throw old RX100 with needle gauge which you'll not get a new one for sure. If you have petrol filter and or clamp do paint and use it. Handle bar you get these days are not heavy as the old one so chrome and use old one. If your speedo case reflect ESCORTS instead of Yamaha, keep it if it is in good condition.

Check what bore size currently running and also crankshaft assembly. If you can get it rebored good else you can also get brand new bores from YASS costs 8200/-. So far have not heard any negatives on the newly available ones. The bore that came did not come painted in silver but in original aluminum color, if you can get it bandblasted for new look, that would be great (ensure to close all the ports closed while doing so).

Painting maroon color to the tank and side shields:- Ensure that you read the color code or identify the right color what Yamaha used and paint them.

              Thanks for the tips Sir.

speedo casing of the escorts ... so ill be using the same with sum polishing and the metal strip will be chromed.

Engine is in perfect tune. Its running the first oversize. My friend spent some bucks to get the reboring done a year back. It has run 2000kms after tat. He hardly used the bike after the reboring. He always wanted a FZ so i was waiting for him to buy a new one so tat i can get my hands on this rx100. No work needs to be done in engine.

I have gone thru the paint code which yamaha last used in rx135 5 speed version. The maroon one. I got the colour code from my painter MANI. So no issues reg the selection of paint. Last work was so impressive that i need not worry about the painting work.

needle gauge???? u mean the oil reservoir gauge???? the fuel pump aint working so ill have to check with that first . I dont think it has a needle gauge. Will check tomo and let u know.

Hand bar is good . a lil bit of rust patches exists but den chroming thickness will matter.Ill give a thick coating to the levers and handle bar and the cylindr head.

Dont ever chrome cylinder head. RX100 never came with painted but buffed. If you want can paint match to the cylinder. The chrome will give a cheap look. Take a look at my restoration, probably might get some idea.

ermmm no one can chrome a cylinder head. The head, made of aluminium will straight away melt during chroming because of the intense temperatures.

A chrome coat, has to be thin. A thicker coat will always flake off.

Aluminum can be chrome plated ,only thing is that the process is corrosive and so must be done quickly and in a particular way...
                        Here is the procedure...

my previous remake - rx135 4 speed has its cylinder head chrome plated if i am not wrong. Are u talking about the rx100 only specifically? Is there ane difference b/w the rx100 head which came in early 90's and the rx135 in late 90's. This version of rx135 which i rebuilt is btw 1998-99 .

I am a beginner here sir, so its ok with all beginners and seniors who carry bundles of knowledge about the process of rx rebuilding.

Everyone is here to help each oder with their own knowledge gained from experience, not to grade each oder, or to mislead with the answers to any queries. Suggestions can be edited by sharing your knowledge about the query, rather remarking or pointing out as a false message. All senior members here have made """ doubts, ideas, recovery tips and ane knowledge regarding bikes """ available to me like learners and beginners.

I'll post a 1989 rx100 in which da whole of engine ( covers, head,) was fully plated.

RX100 head as far as I can remember , had slightly shiny finish. It was NOT matt/silver finish. At the same time not as bling as a chrome job. I have no idea about the technicalities/metallurgy though.

EDIT: Same goes for fork legs and engine covers. I am not sure if that finish can be replicated outside. Atleast I haven't seen that finish in any of the re-builds I have seen so far. All/most of them are painted to the later 135 colour scheme (for fork outer, engine covers, chain case, etc) which is silver/dull finish.
