  • Restoration Of my Yammie Rx 135 4 Speed

I am doing a restoration on my Rx 135. No Engine work. Only looks and some add ons.

    Currently my plan is

    1. Painting (Black colour)
    2. New Side Panels
    3. Graphics (Race flag design) designed by myself with the help of an artist. (Red or Yamaha Fz Green color) graphics
    4. Remove Saree guard
    5. Remove Rear Carrier (I like the look without carriers or sis hold).
    6. Add a steel bracket to hold Number plate bracket,Tail lamp and Indicators.
    7. Change to Front Disk Brakes.
    8. Change Wheel hub, rim and spokes.
    9. New Crash Guard.
    10. Rxz Engine Belly.
    11. Exide 5L Battery.
    12. RXZ,RD or Suzuki Shogun Speedometer with Tacho.
    13. Change Both tyres
    14. Both Shock absorbers

Like to have all you experts opinion on the same. Kindly answer my below queries also.

    1. Which is the best frontend setup for my bike for disk brake.?
Is it pulsar old model or Rx 5 speed setup or gladiator setup? And What abt the prices(including shock absorbers)
    2. Best rear shock absorber.
Am planning for Discover gas suspension setup. I am currently using pulsar setup, its in worse condition and its height lifts the rear very much.
    3. Speedometer Prices and can I do setup of Tacho?
    4. Which front rim should I use(Only spokes)?I mean pulsar or Yamaha or any other?

    Thanks in advance
    Vimal

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

          Gladiator aka ss125...8-10k

          2. Best rear shock absorber.

stock shox..if you are 80+kg you can try discover 110 shox, any change in height will affect dynamics

          3. Speedometer Prices and can I do setup of Tacho?

get RXZ 4 speed set up including RHS engine cover from used parts

          4. Which front rim should I use(Only spokes)?I mean pulsar or Yamaha or any other?

Spokes...if you get yamaha ok, otherwise then go for Hero honda

Aa sathishg told you can go for a gladiator set up for the front disc brake. I recently purchased one, costs around 10000 rupees(including the inner tube, outer tube, disc, Master cylinder, caliper assay, hose ) .
You also have to get the worm gear set up as the stock one cannot be used.
Getting the hub may be a little difficult depending on the location. Check the outer tube color before you buy. I didn't check and when I reached home I saw the outer tube was black, mistake from my part.I still have to get the spokes though!

Thanks for the suggestion Rx. But I dont ve a big budget of 10k for Disk setup. As I said I am looking for a used setup. As I am in Mumbai, getting spare is not a big issue. There are a couple of shops which i know where Ican get almost all spares for Rx series on the spot or they will procure for me from somewhere. I had enquired here at chor bazaar today. They quote me 3.5 K for the whole setup of old pulsar.Front 2 forks, whole disk assembly, hub and wheel with spokes. I negotiated for 3 k and they r ready for it now. I am not sure whether its a gud deal. Will check with some more shops for the price. What do you guys think of the price? Is it a gud deal or should I go for another?

Currently my restoration is at the following stage.

                1. Purchased side panels and painted black.
                2. Purchased a new Petrol tank(Not OEM) . Removed the default yamaha decals and did one more coating of black paint.
                3. Will get the Graphic stickers on saturday as the artist guy is busy with Ganpati festival decorations.
                4. Sis hold removed and made a custom bracket and painted to hold the tail light bracket and indicators.
                5. Removed sareeguard(Its almost 5 kg).
                6. RXZ Engine belly
                7. Exide Xtreme 5L Battery.
                8. New Horn.
                9. New 7" Autopal reflector for headlight.
                10. Halonix 60/55 Halogen bulb.
                11. Rewinded stator plate for High headlight & constant high battery charging.(Light comeout like a car headlight.) (Happy with the setup)
                12. Extra Bajaj chetak regulator for regulating voltage to all electrical accesories except front headlight.

Progress is very slow. Not getting enough time becos of Hectic office work.

Ditch the seat man, looks just awkward , go for the shaved foam type or use the Samurai/Shogun seat that really gives some character . The handle , I'd gone with the wider rally type or the RD wide Handle.

Then again looks are subjective , just my 2 paisa.

Thanks for the opinion Kiran. This is original Rx-135 Seat.Just took it to foam wala and repaired the damaged foam and put a leather cover over that. I dont like the naked look with Samurai/Shogun seat. I will go for the handlebar as you said. Might be RD one.

Next changes in my list are Front Disc brakes and both tyres of Michelin.

Any Members help me with the pic of an RD handle on an RX?
