  • Shogun or RX? Which one for 20k in Bangalore?

Hello fellow bikers,I am from Bangalore, very much into bikes.A friend of mine is looking to get a used bike, i want him to have the thrill of a 2 stroke. So, shogun or RX? Shoguns are available cheaper, but parts are suspect.Parts were scarce 5 years ago, don't know about it now. Also do any of you from Bangalore know a good Shogun/RX for sale in Bangalore? Clean papers, no accidents and original Jap engines preferred, thanks.Needless to say, should be well maintained.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Don't know why you being into bikes, suggesting 2 stroke bike for your friend. Parts were an issue for these legend bikes long time back! more than 5 yrs ago.

1-2 months back i had spoken to Yamaha SVC they said if order they will bring RX100 parts. But it will take time more than 15 days-1 month.

Ask your friend to save money instead of wasting the money on any 2 stroke and repairing it addtionally very low kmpl. And buy a Duke after few months, which will do the same thing of 2 stroker but in better way.
2 stroke days are nil now. You have better options now.

Hey 2stroke, out of the 2 the RX is your safest bet due to availibility of parts. major engine components and body parts are officially available at YFS. Also any spares shop will always stock rx parts OE or otherwise. The Shogun on the other hand although a great bike, does not have any support from TVS for parts of any kind. All parts available are only through black markets that exist on these forums and other social networking sites and mostly at a very high premium.

Id suggest going in for the RX for piece of mind and a great 2 stroke experience.

+1. Go for RX rather shogun, I had experienced the pain of procuring spares for almost vanished bike Shaolin

          Cheers !!

Bangalore market is slightly on higher side when it comes to 2 stroke as it is regarded as one of the 2 stroke crazy town. Used 2 stroke prices will be on the higher side and with your requirement add little MORE.

You might get spares from YASS or dealers for your RX100 requirements, but some parts might take time.

Yup the RX would be a lot better as you can source the parts.

I wouldn't completely agree that the two stroke days are over..as you can see hundreds of people cherishing their bikes.

              My two cents,

RX anytime as new parts can still be found. Shogun is a more fun machine than the RX but parts are very expensive. If Hes ready to spend something like 10k for a borekit, 5k for meters, 2-3k for fairing, 7-8k for silencer etc. then Shogun it is.

So Duke has the short life of 2 years? Bad!

2 stroke - RX100 has known for its exhillerating roar, musical exhaust note, blue smoke and the kick you get out of it. Check out how many RX100 are running around, the last one manufactured was in 1996. Still they have good market and they are sold pricy even today. I would not have detailed had you been a 2 stroker. Duke is from a different genre and let's not compare it.

Agree to Sriram. 2 Strokes are always 2 Strokes. More than 2 decades and Still RX is of great demand. I Dont think that any 4 stroke bike will be having such a demand after so many years like an RX.

I never thought my return to xbhp would be this way but it is what it is.

So you honestly believe that 2 strokes are dodos? too bad. You talk about love? There is no love without labor, without wait and without sacrifice. Owning a two stroke is not about going faster or getting mileage out of the engine. it is about the pride and satisfaction and feel of the motorcycle.

If someone does not want a two stroke bike then it is good. Leave it for someone who actually appreciates them. Please don't go on and compare two strokes with bikes like duke or cbr because if two strokes were built with today's resources it would be the same people, as in you, who would question the existence of four strokes. Please learn how to compare bikes with relevancy.

You have mentioned that duke does what the two strokes do in a better way. Exactly what does it do better? it has a better power band rush? It can be tweaked better or is it that it runs endlessly without maintenance for 20 years? It runs faster you say? compared to what? which two stroke? I do not recall India having a 200 cc single cylinder two stroke bike ever. If we had dt200r, it200 or even the RS200 we could compare them to the duke. If we do that then the duke looks like a really under powered machine.

You can not seriously compare two motorcycles from different eras(as told recently by a good friend). Duke being compared to bikes that are 20 years old and half its engine capacity, that itself is a testament to the resiliency of the two strokes. Two strokes are better engines as they have much fewer moving parts hence much better life cycle. It does not hurt that it makes twice the power compared to a similar capacity four stroke engine.

@2stroke: RX would be the saner choice as consumable spares are still available abundantly and critical parts can be obtained with some effort.
