  • RX100 Crankshaft replacement

Recently had a lot of noise from the engine RX100, when check in detail found the bore was fine but the crankshaft and bearing needed replacment. i m getting this done, but needed more information on care post these changes.
    1) do i need to run the bike in limit like you would during a run-in period?
    2) wat should be amount of oil i use, earlier i used 25ml/l directly into the tank.

    Any more suggestions ?

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

If you can get the crankshaft bearings fixed without opening the cylinder + piston kit, yes, you don't need to run in

20ml with oil pump & 20-23ml premix for 1st 500 Km should keep you safe at any cost

PV1984:- Change all the engine bearings and if possible new crankshaft assy. You can even get the crankshaft assy reset (pressed) to re-assure confidence.
Remember, not always when the engine(bottom end) is opened had left us lucky to get through. You don't know, it is like opening a can of worms. So do anticipate some other parts to be replaced as well. Thought for you is:- All Engine Oil Seals.

Thank you guys for all the inputs .
Been busy off late and hence couldn't post much.
Here is the update after the crankshaft replacement.
                    1) Strange noise from the Engine - Initially the mechanic said its from magnet . But when he looked at it, he says its from the engine. The reason he gave was that when the crankshaft was replaced the deposited carbon had been cleared and hence the sound is because the lack of the carbon and will reduce as you clock kms.
                    2) While riding I was ensuring not to cross 40-50 kmph, but once I wanted to see how the bike responds to the throttle but it struggles to cross 60 or 70. Is this expected initially ?
                    3) This might not be related to the crankshaft replacement, but my front brakes are not in great condition. Initally it was tight but I noticed that the front wheel was not moving freely when on center stand and hence loosed it. The next day narrowly escaped hitting a activa (wonder wat he was doing in the middle of the road ...side ways ). Any suggestions guys ?
                    4) Wats the best engine oil for Rx 100 ? I usually change it between 3k-4k, is this fine or should I do it frequently and the ideal Tyre pressure?

Thanks in advance again for taking time out to respond to my queries.

Nothing concrete can be said about the noise coming from the engine without looking at it. You might want to show it to another mechanic. If the bike is struggling above 70, u need to look into the carb and airfilter first. If you are in a running in phase, the carb has to be kept a little rich.

Its a fresh rebuild so the engine should not have any unwanted noises.

My 135 also didn't feel very keen above 60kmph in the 1st 1000 kms. Only after I finished running in and AFR was re-tuned it started performing above those speeds.

My 100 has currently completed ~450 kms and its the same case with that too.

Besides, I don't know why would you want to revv it to take past 60kmph so early. With 1/4 throttle (which is the max you ideally should be using within 0-500kms) by what margin would one able to cross 60kmph anyway?
