  • Buying Guide for a second hand RX 100

    I am an engineering student, currently pursuing M.Tech in mechanical. I always wanted my first bike to be RX100, sadly it's out of production now, but still am in search of old RX100 for myself.

    I need advice for parts and areas to look out for in the bike while going to buy the RX100 so that it turns out to be a value buy. Is there any specific time period or year of manufacture of that bike for which to look forward to.Am currently in Punjab, does any body around here knows a great deal for an old RX100, my budget is 15k.

    Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

      ....

      People would say the initial batch of RX (late 80's) used to be best in terms of quality / build. I do agree here. But, it is already a 20+ year old piece of metal and we can't expect the same level quality today from those bikes. It depends on how the previous owner maintained it.

      Forget about the year, just check for the condition of bike and especially the documents.

      From my experience with 15k budget you could get either a piece of scrap with proper documents or a well maintained one with no / expired documents (RX100 demand a premium in the market)

      Nissan Sunny XVD | Toyota Corolla | Suzuki Ritz
      Yamaha RX135 4s-->5s | Yamaha RX100 | Yamaha RXG | Yamaha Ray | TVS Scooty Streak | Duke 390
      2000 Yamaha RX135 5s (Sold) | 1998 Yamaha RX135 4s (Sold) | 1997 Yamaha RXG (Sold) | 1994 Yamaha RX100 (Sold)

        A good condition rx100 is very difficult to find, most of them are totally neglected by there owners, and the ones which are very well maintained are not selled, so you have to get in between somewhere for your purchase, just make sure that bike is not a totally gonner, check the chassis for rust, holes etc, condition of the engine, what size piston is the bike running, electricals plus the paper work, like insurance, Rc validity etc. I believe your budget is short purchasing an rx and restoring or atleast bringing her to proper running condition in your amount is difficult. Couple of weeks back i saw a maintained rx100 for sale here in my hometown (Delhi), if you say so than i can ask for it.

          I'll keep in mind checking the documents properly for sure. Even I don't want a very well maintained bike.I just want a bike with bare essentials in running condition, I'll be conducting a restoration and rebuild any ways. I have curiosity to know the internal stuff of the bike so I'll any ways open it and perform the essential changes as and where required with new parts. I think then i just have to look forward for a proper engine and chassis with other mountings and holes in original state. Correct me if am going wrong.

          Thanks for the advice, I'll surely look forward to the parts and points you mentioned.
          As for Delhi, even I want to buy a bike from Delhi because of the low cost there as compared to Punjab,but am still dependent on my parents so I have to seek their permission and my Mother will go nuts and bolts if I'll say I'll be riding an old bike for 6-7 hours to my location, also the registration number of bike if not of Punjab don't know why gets so high on Punjab police they surely will stop you every time they'll notice. So, I want to play safe a bit. How ever, I will try to persuade my Maa this time when I'll go home to buy a bike from Delhi, so that i'll have a better bike to work upon or to simply put, some money saved for later work on bike . Thanks for concern now, but I cant ask you to keep someone waiting for me, if that person gets a prospective buyer then it's pointless for waiting for me now.

          I need a bike which i'll be using for daily run to college and will be working on free time.

            It's not that you will find lots of rx100 in delhi, no way, seldom you come across someone who is riding this motorcycle, actually i saw this motorcycle which was in quite good condition, i asked the guy about the bike and he tells me that he wants to sell the bike, i think it's almost a month ago when i met this guy so by now who knows he might have sold the vehicle.
