• Help me select a 2 stroke bike

Guys, I am looking at an 2000 rx135 restored to good condition, how much can I pay for it? I have to keep in mind that next year I have to get the fitness certificate! and I have no idea about 2 stroke bikes, so what should I look for in terms of mechanicals and paper work.

More details:
Bike has new tyres
Owner has restored it, but is movie abroad, will confirm if he is working for an IT firm when I meet him
Will check engine and chassis number with RC book, any possibility of tampering?
Tyre is new too, but front one is rib pattern, I might need to change it

More queries:
Will the bike hold its value, I can see that RX100 is in great demand, but not sure about 135
Parts availability for RX135
Signs of poor restoration
How much should I pay at max

Going to have a look at the bike mostly by today, so please help me out guys.

Thanks in advance.

giridhar,

Srimotors near Kasi Theatre has all the parts you need for a RX-100 or RX-135. I happened to talk to one guy while waiting for a long signal . He had bought a RX-100 for 35k (guess late 1990 model) and had spent close to 45k for restoration. Not sure what the condition of the bike was when he had purchased, but I got to know where he works, may be you can pay him a visit. He says he know few good people who sells genuine bikes.

He is working in Dominos pizza (the one near Sri Krishna Sweets in Ashok nagar). Damn, I forgot to ask him name

I guess I know the shop you are talking about, my friend bought R15 parts from there! but 35K for rx100 sounds steep to me(I have no idea about used Enfields and 2 strokes), I am trying to source one from my native(Mayavaram), my uncle lives there and told me RX don't have much demand there. Issue here is finding one :P Bike I was looking at was just 26K, I was just too slow I guess.

Edit: Bike mentioned in the original post was in Chengalpattu

You would've got better responses here, had you posted the asking price too
I saw the bike's pic in some other thread posted by you. 26k is not high for that bike, provided the engine also in good condition.
You can have a look in quikr/olx too, so you'll get an idea of the prices.

Bike got sold before I could go and see it, was surfing for few hours and found the price of most bikes to be out of my budget of <30K, I guess I have started out with less than required greens.

Keep surfing, you'll get it one day. My friend got a 2004 RX135 in okay condition for around 24k two years back. He hasn't restored it or done major repairs after he aquired it.
Keep looking in quikr/olx.
30k is not a too low budget for RX135. All the best.

Mr.Giridhar,It is awesome to hear someone is looking to get a Good Ol' 2 Stroker,Today in 2014.Everybody at-least 8 in every 10 2-Stroker will own a Yamaha RX but What I am telling is you can become the Killer of those Yammies with a 2 Stroker that killed every RX on the road but sadly failed on our Market,The TVS Suzuki Shogun,THE BOSS.The biggest Advantage is that being not much famous,You could get one Quite Cheap and they won't get sold out that quick.

Advantage of the Shogun over the RX

1) Had better Peformance and Gearbox than the RX Series (It will beat all the RX Models)
2) Cheaper to get and maintain as They are not as famous as the RX
3) Slightly better Mileage
4) Has lotsa Space for Modifiying

So,I Highly suggest you to look at TVS Suzuki Shogun,THE BOSS

Yamaha's especially RX 100 and 135 have quickly come in demand, its not easy to find a good one for less than 25k, but its not hard as well. I will tell you where is the issue. we are impatient so usually we endup being impulsive, i had seen an rx 100 for 20 k without any papers and an RX 135 with all papers (including fitness) for 23 K both were average condition, its when i decided i dont want a second RX 100 i started seeing ones for less than 20K, i recently saw one for 18, fitness pending. This is the case in Kerala where every second person has or has owned an RX at some point in time. Be patient, buy an unrestored one or a work in progress and restore it to your satisfaction, remember you can spend 10 K or 50 K in the same bike and get very similar results, the first 1 involves you doing a lot of work and running behind people to source things and the second is where you find yourself a mechanic and tell him money is not an object. Hope i was able to answer your questions to some extent.

But will have a word with my friend and have a second look for sure

What you have said is quiet true, I am keen on getting one with clean papers, physical condition needs to be just average hence avoiding restored ones, restored rides surely deserve their asking price for all the hardwork the owner has put in. I have given myself few months of time to get hold of one in good condition, no rush here hopefully will land with a good deal

Re: Help me select a 2 stroke bike

The reason why RX are pricy even after decades is because of realiable engine life and backed up by Yamaha even today. Shoguns are cheaply sold in the market because of lack of spares support from TVS. If at all you get spares for Shogun are of old stock. Let's not argue one over the other. The thread starter just requested for a query to buy a 2stroke bike.

Oh sure sir.Shogun is a wonderful bike.I think you can call the seller and Ask about the details on this bike.It is Just that spares are really hard to get.If you want around 7 Bhp of power and more than 50 Kmpl and much more cheaper Maintainence bike,The Samurai is for you !! Eh..If you are still sticking to the RX,I highly suggest you look only at the RX 100 and RX 135 5 speed. These 2 bikes are one of the most succesful in the RX Series and the RX 135 5 speed is a Rocket ! It sure sounds not very good because of the addition of the Catalytic Converter to reduce emissions. But eh.. Both these bikes are nowhere near the Shogun.Yammie still knows the value of these bikes and they are providing Spare parts. That's dedication and which TVS has to learn and what they did is they just threw away the Shogun. Now I think TVS now has learnt the lesson from the success from RTR.Thank you for considering my answer.

I have already given a clear reply for this statement in another forum where you are banned. With the number of RXs in market, one could easily understand who killed and who got killed.
You have have a higher love towards TVS, but that couldn't make a Suzuki Shogun a TVS Suzuki Shogun.
