Also once a week I push-start the bike just to keep its engine in good health. Ridden a lot of bikes but that throttle response in 1st and 2nd gear is just awesome!!!

I am thinking of getting cafe-racer style RVMs but am going through a major problem right now. Gotta fix that kick starter gear first.
It will not necessarily be the gear that broke, it's often just a little "sprag" (pawl, I guess it's called) that engages the gear (from the inside, actually). I had one break years ago when I was in an extremely inconvenient spot way out in Spiti Valley (H.P.)... I had to push-start the bike on ridiculously rough, steep roads at high altitude, the rest of that week. If I remember right, I'd just put in a new (non-OE) replacement from Karol Bagh (Delhi), and the breakage was on account of its very poor quality. Later just reground/reshaped the original (still works even if a little shorter), and salvaged a couple more OE pieces from scrapyards, but probably not an easy find these days. I've got two of these bikes (100/125) that I've been running over 10 years.

Under normal circumstances, when well-tuned / maintained these bikes don't require much kicking - much less hard kicking - so it's not a part especially prone to breakage (unless you've got engine issues... or have used spurious spares... or are riding at 11,000+ft!).

Yours looks like a nice original bike, by the way. My 125 was bought with the engine in pieces in a cardboard box... but my 100, while neglected mechanically, was really pretty (black, with all the original pieces and good chrome/paint) when a friend (original owner) gave it to me.

I am the second person to own this bike after my uncle. Luckily he loved this machine so much that it was well maintained and can still amuse anyone even after 26 long years.Haven't found the kick pawl yet.
The key to happiness is a "key"!!!
Like the key in my DP.
That's why it's called the "key to happiness".

            Apparently, the masters were right.

The pawl was the culprit for the kick not working.
Guess, I will just have to rebuild her again. Replaced the shaft, pawl, spring, pin and pinion.

Should be good for another 20k at least !

Finally got them parts after 3+ years of hunting !!!!!!!!!Click image for larger version

Can you help me by telling which engine oil to put so the clutch doesn't slip? I've put motul 3000 for the engine and used castrol 2t for the oil pump can !! Is this okay??

stick to shell rimula gulf 4t or any other half decent brand, you should be fine, castrol or shell will work fine with oil pump , just remember to add 20 or 30 ml of 2t to your tank every time you fill up petrol

Thanks a lot for the support. This is the first time I'm seeing the inside of the engine. Quite impressive design for back in the days!

Rotary valve! What crazy imagination! [emoji108]

I will keep posted. It's full on mission to build a scrambler out of this 2stroke Kawasaki now !

Can you tell me if I can get the original Kawasaki tank emblems ? Or will I have to do with the Kbajaj one itself? [emoji52]

                  Regards,
                  Rajdeep.

Here's the engine fully reworked on revving. She needs a lot of cleaning and pampering before she's done though.

and thats just the stock sound!

Going to have so much fun working on it steadily in future.
