  • Spotted an Enfield Explorer at a scrap shop in Chennai - Any ethusiasts interested?

    Hello Xbhpians,

Today, when I was out on some errands and I spotted an interesting looking bike standing at the scrap shop. I stopped my bike and went to inspect it. At first I couldnt figure out what machine it was and then I saw the old Madras Enfield logo before it changed to Royal Enfield. I went online and found out that the bike was a 175cc Enfield Fury. At first, I was interested to restore this bike by myself. It is a very rare machine and would be personally rewarding work. However considering the struggles and the mess I have been having with my current work on a 1989 CD 100, I decided that I shouldnt touch it. It came to my mind that there might be enthusiasts looking to restore such a rare bike or people looking for this particular bike. So, I thought I would spread the word to fellow Xbhpians and play a small part in helping them own such a bike.

    Below are some details:
I couldnt talk much with the shopkeeper.
I did a basic inspection of the bike.
The front suspension is jammed and rusted.
    The carburetor is missing.
The crank and piston seem to be moving ok when the kicker was kicked.
The switch gear seems to be stuck.
The headlight is original and has the Enfield logo on it.

I have attached a couple of pictures. I hope someone is interested to get this bike. I do not know how long it will be available. The shopkeeper sensed my interest and is playing hardball. If you are interested, let me know and I will do my best to help you get this bike.

Bike has got cover of suzuki max r - with name seiko (name of shop which fitted the cover i guess)

also it has got alloy wheels, i like to go in history as to how the bike must have been bought home the first time by the first owner with so much of happiness and fanfare and now lying in ruins.

Another question is about legality of buying the bike restoring it (with original or substitute spare parts and making it run on fuel (diesel or petrol) ) and taking it on roads. What reg no can we use?

We had a bajaj m50 which was lying unused for many many years after death of my dad, we used to live in maharashtra, and the bike was a superb one. But as we got new bikes no one used the old bike and it was just lying there. After many years we got hold of a person who confirmed to us that he will scrap the bike and paid us some 1-2 K rupees and took the bike. Whether he restored it or not we dont know, whether the bike is now not in existence or not nobody knows. But if that bike is restored and tomorrow if it gets into accident then if police does enquiry all they will find is no one lives at the address given in RC Book (20 yrs old) and the person who bought the bike (my dad) is no more and we left that place years ago.

Driving in villages and small towns is different as police rarely do checks but in metro cities, frequent police checks are done
