  • Self starter for Suzuki Samurai 99 Model

    Dear All,

My FIL is having a Suzuki Samurai in a good condition. Off late, it is getting a bit difficult for him to kickstart the engine. Is it possible to install a Electric starter switch for the bike? . If yes , what all modifications need to be done. I am in Chennai and the bike is in Palakkad, Kerala. What will be the approximate cost for the work?

    Thanks in advance.

    Query Approved
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Since the technology & facility is already available, this is very much possible.

In Chennai people quote around 5~7k for adding starter motor for RX, I hope it should be similar number for Samurai as well.
Free-wheel to be added to crank shaft, engine case modification to accommodate the motor, bigger battery & related electricals.

Having answered your questions above, adding a bit of my thought
      - Modification is possible, but not reliable, not cost worthy
      - You could either dispose the bike and get him another bike with factory fitted self start which is more reliable and efficient
      - If there are any sentimental attachments with the Samurai, retain the bike. With the cost for modification, you could easily get a used 100cc bike / scooter with self start

        Thank u Mr Boss,

The 5 -7k you are mentioning is inclusive of all changes or only for starter motor. I have enquired with some nearby mechanics, but they are yet to come up with a quote.

He is keeping the bike for emotional value only, and of late am also interested in the same.

        Thanks again

          Includes everything.
Motor alone costs nothing over a couple of grands.
