    Goldwing Type Seat for Royal Enfield

    Hello All,

    I have been thinking of building a customized seat for my Royal Enfield specifically for touring purpose.

    Goal:-
    1. A Seat which is comfortable for both Rider and Pillion.
    2. Provide good back support for both Rider and Pillion.
    3. Storage space - To store my camera, Lens, tripod and Handy Cam.
    4. Should be easy to install (Remember only for Long Tours)
    5. Should be as light as Possible.
    6. Above all Quality and Safety.
    With the above goal in mind I started my pursuit of that perfect touring Seat.

    I was looking for images of touring bikes on internet to get some idea as to how these are built and designed.

    Came across bikes like Honda Goldwing, Yamaha Tourer etc.
    Liked the Honda Goldwing seats and decided to see how these types of seat would look on a Royal Enfield

    Bullet 350CC. Decided to get them together and check how this might come out.

    Saved few images of Honda Goldwing and Royal Enfield Bullet 350CC. Using MS Excel and MS Paint, I had managed to cut,copy and paste the Honda Goldwing Seats to Royal Enfield. Though this was not a perfect job on alignment but look good.

    So here I present my Royal Enfield Tourer.

    If any of you guys are interested in getting a similar type of seats done. Please post your suggestion here as we can work together these done.

    I'm planning have a seat with backrest for single person and have some innovative storage space in the back.

    If you can get your RE to look like that, it would really be fabulous. I think however that RE themselves should propose such options on their bikes knowing fully well that they do have a cult following.
    The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

      @Ken - Let me see what best I can come out.

      I still like the old look of the Royal Enfield and if this project turns out to be good. I might buy another Royal Enfield 500CC and build a Tourer like what we see.

        I might just buy an Enfield if I can get this fitment made for it! I am sure there'll be plenty of takers for a good mod of the seat+storage on the RE.

          Yes. There will be a LOT of takers. But it has to be of very good quality. Not the Karol Bagh kinds.

            You will have to probably modify the chassis for the seat mod to be safe and comfy and also hold all that luggage... I dont think the stock is so good....

            You can plonk the studds luggage boxes on it, they are slick and look better than the el-cheapo ones!
            Would suggest you work out on a frame first to be weilded on to the original chassis... from thereon you can choose mounting points and do provisioning for the luggage racks!

            And If you fo it good, I might fall for it too :P (unless the gixxer comes up eariler)

              the tyres def have to be modded to take the weight distribution, because so much weight around corners on stock tyres is a scary thought.

                For the saddle I'm thinking of something like Shad Panniers. They are excellent and very costly. Not sure if available in India but will be looking for similar panniers for the back. I'm not keen on saddles for the sides but will make this option available for people who might want it.

                I will not be modifying the chassis for sure as I love the current look of my RE but will be working on a design that might just make this concept possible. Again it is not as easy as said but let's hope for the best.

                Also as I will be designing something for one person so that pillions position can be used as storage space. Will post some design in the next few days.

                I agree with you and will see how we can overcome this with little adjustment. Again going for a wider tyre will have effect on Sprocket and chain.

                        I have spoken to Royal Enfield Zone - Seats for Royal Enfield Bullet, Electra, Machismo, Thunderbird, Standard :: Royal Enfield Zone, New Delhi, India who are willing to do that.

                        Also I came to know from DELL Bull Riders that Kajanchi in Delhi makes these kind of seats.

                            Big seats with the arm rest would be an over kill for RE. We are not using bikeseveryday for touring. I prefer this provided if it has foldable back support. So it wont be sticking out

                            Else an option to remove back rest. I feel both seats looks similar without back rest. Hope you got my point.

                              Listen man. You live in Bangalore I guess. Ordering from so far wouldn't be too practical IMHO. Find someone in Bangalore who can sit with you and actually make the seat. For starters, you should look at a proper bullet mechanic. When you need some custom made stuff, it is always better to get it done with the motorcycle around. If you are interested, I could suggest someone who could do it for you in Bangalore.
