There are a few basic questions i need to clarify.
    1. Why is there a neutral between each gear? my mech said if you are cruising on a highway you can just drop it in one of the neutrals and let inertia do the rest.

Thats pure bull crap. its just a shortcoming not a feature as mentioned above by the others.

    2. When i am i 4th gear and need to stop should i lower the gears all the way to the neutral just below the 1st gear?

if you can without any problem do should. if not then stop and then take it to neutral.

    3. How much does a good rear tyre cost? The wobbling i felt was cuz the rear tyre is worn out and is so smooth at the center that there is no grip at all.

A MRF 3.50 is the best for it just go for this one if you are going for a 19incher. this will be no more than 1200 including tube. i have done nice leaning using this tyre no problem with the grip and it wears slow.

    4. There is an extra sound i hear from the engine. A metallic sound everytime i rev the bike or even during riding. My mech says its something called bore slapping and i need to get the engine serviced. Is he right and should i go in for a total overhauling which another RE expert estimated to be around Rs. 8000!

since when did this start after you went for the trip or it was from the begining. just check if the oil level is going down. it may be that it just needs a ring change....

go for getting the cycle parts sorted first if you by chance open up the whole thing get the chassis painted... once you are done with the cycle parts then go for the body.. oh that does notmean that you do not get the engine done

By the way i have a Advise. remember always this is not a RX100. if you thinking why i am saying this check my Signature at the end of the post.

I recommend replacing the cylinder kit than reboring. Most reboring in India, is done shoddily which just results in poor performance after the job. Just buy the cylinder kit man.- doesn't cost too much for the 350.

      Hi Jay,

Thanks for the heads up. Any idea how much its gonna cost?

        Hi deep,

thanks for the advise. My mech also said the same thing. Tyres gonna cost around 2,500 bucks so i guess thats pretty much set.

As for the bore slapping it started after the trip. I have been hearing a metallic sound which accompanies the thump sound. I did get the oils replaced but my mech said it might be the piston acting up so i need to take it to the mech again and get it sorted. I am looking to get the engine in shape before i spend money on cosmetic changes.

            ^^^Exactly.

As Desi has said, the metallic sound could be some loose part. tappets, noisy valves or maybe even cam backlash. So, make sure whether it really is piston slap.

            Cheers,

            Jay

This is the current price in Pune. I called up the spare parts seller and asked. If it cheaper elsewhere, wonderful for our friend.

                      Cheers,

Incidently i was in the RE workshop today to get my bike checked. i have been asked to get the head changed, New bore, and brand new oil pump.
                        the prices quoted were

                        Head- 4500
                        Bore - 2500
Oil pump was going to be around 300 not check the price as these are not common spares.

Na the kit includes the Barrel which is also reffered to as Bore or the Cylinder, and it contains the Piston and some other stuff. so mainly its the cylinder and the piston and the rings

Buy spares from your local RE workshop... i look for websites only for rare or special stuff... thats my opinion
