    Coming back to life !

I really got reminded the time when I had gone to Yamaha showroom to take a look at RX 135 nearly 12 years back after seeing the pictures.

I would say it is passion could possibly turn out to see such restoration.

Is that you got a stock headlight doom? I thought it is slightly bigger than the stock. Am I correct?

I really appreciate your effort and will watch out for the others projects from your end.

    You rock!

Thanks a lot Sriram for those kind words of appreciation Meant a lot to me. Glad you liked my restoration job.
You are right about the headlight, its much bigger than the stock headlight. Its an old Pulsar headlight assembly (Lumax) with a 35/35W Philips bulb for better light, as i do a lot (108kms everyday) of night riding. Will surely post my next project very soon

The restoration work is pretty awesome. I pressume that the engine is also kept stock, did you have a chance to realize the mileage part? Just curious....

They are Yamaha YBX shocks. They are about an inch longer than stock shocks but work perfectly well as i have lifted the rear a bit

Big Bore why don't you use multi-quotes instead of replying in different post :- just press the "+" button on the right hand side of "Quote" Tab. and when you are at the last post of any member whom you want to answer just click the "Quote" tab and you will have all the quotes from different members. Now you will just have to move your cursor up and down and then answer the queries buddy.

What have you done for lifting the rear end of the bike?

                              Hi Big bore,
Thats a wonderful job doen by you. Since I am restoring 99 RX135 4S need some guidelines from you. Since i will be using this bike for my daily commuting , fuel efficiency is equally important to me.

                              1. Which silencer will give better FE ;Cat con or Crome(Forgive me if am discussing wrong topic)
                              2. I want bike to be in stock condition so what tyres i should use on it(Suggest me rim size as well)
                              3. What engine parts i should check before buying 99 RX135 4S(I dont want to end up in buying ported or any mod egine, i want it be in stock condition.

Please help me out with your guidelines.
                              fyi I stay in Bangalore.

                                Reply on RX doubts...

It would have been better had you posted your query in "Help Me" section. Anyways here goes some advice from my side.

                                1. Which silencer will give better FE ;Cat con or Crome - FE is independent of type of silencer used (the drops are very marginal w.r.t stock pipes & chambered setup). It is very much possible to achieve 40Kmpl++ on a 4-speed (4TL00) block with a chambered setup, unless you are ripping like crazy coz of the sound & feel. Fit a Chrome type as this will greatly reduce the weight of the bike (FYI, catcon weighs somewhere close to 10-12Kgs). Just as thumb rule, under highway riding conditions (speed between 40-50Kmph) a 4-speeder with stock setup (I am assuming std bore kit with ART piston) should give you more than 45Kmpl.

                                2. I want bike to be in stock condition so what tyres i should use on it(Suggest me rim size as well) - For a 4-speed 135, the stock tyres as per company specs should be Front: 2.50 x 18 & Rear: 2.75 x 18. Any branded tyre like CEAT/MRF should do, but if you need very good performance then try IRC/Michelin.

                                3. What engine parts i should check before buying 99 RX135 4S(I dont want to end up in buying ported or any mod egine, i want it be in stock condition. - Open the head & check what piston size is it running, check the gears for smoothness, clutch action, Carb for any leakage etc, monitor the exhaust port for any leakage (One of the reasons could be due to worng porting) & also check for the way the bike is pulling, if it is pulling really crazy, then be sure that the bore is ported. There may be lot of other guidelines available in general for purchase of second hand Indian bikes, do some googling. I have mentioned in particular for RX. A stock RX135 4-speed will not do beyond 90-95Kmph, check this aspect also. Yeah, most important of all, check is it actually running OE bore kit or not (4TL00).

                                Hope this helps.

                                Thanks.
                                - Karthik..
