No one here is new to the 2T. No one will spoon feed you. Guess you've a long road to learn about RX machines. If you think that is going to give headache, quit RX and watch TV. Need advise on engine oil usage.
Hello Fellow Riders,
I am a newbie here and went through threads relating to Rebuilding an RX100 and have a few quieries. I bought an RX100(1991 model) from Kerala for 14k which was in a okay-to-drive condition. After bringing it to Bangalore , noticed some glitches in riding and performance and had to keep the bike away at parking for about 4-5 months(budget constraint)!
And Hola, after getting a rise I took the bike to a local mechanic whom my friends used to visit with their RX's, and had a check on the ride. Spent 5k for changing the piston and other tweaky little parts(Sorry, memory loss) and was able to take the ride out to road and YES, I was happy about the end result.
From the mechanic, I learned that the Oil had to be mixed along with the petrol and to not use the Oil sump. I would really like to know why?
I am planning to overhaul my buddy by this December and is confused on whether to go for a A.S.C or a known overhauling mechanic in J.C.Road, Bangalore.
I have a friend who did his restoration with this mechanic an year ago, who had changed every nut and bolt to new ones, except the engine since it was working perfect.
The bike is running fine and rev happy till date.
Present Status of my bike:
* Can feel every minor bump on the road like hell and I can feel the pain the bike is going through, we both shake well !!.
* Bike tends to move while standstill and on 1st Gear, hard to down the gear when slowing down from say 3rd or 4th.
* Kick Start tends to sway down without the 'lock' so, had to find the 'click' sound and then can start.
* And yes, lot of cosmetic repairs and 'God Knows What Else' repairs to be done.
Hope the RX lovers here wont curse me for the state of machine in my hand , which is a legend in India's Automotive History.
Happy Riding for the weekend...

For 14 k you got an RX from Kerala? I can think of its condition..
Regarding your question about premix, from the knowledge I gained from this forum, you don't have to worry about a seized piston, your tank will be rust free. Comparing to the advantages (the cost of new tank and piston cylinder kit) the damage that cause to the engine due to pre mix is negligible. The disadvantages are you have to rely on the oil from the pump or you have to carry your own 2t oil with you.
Regarding the kicker and clutch, the ball of the kicker boss might have gone, the clutch try to adjust the nut on the lever. Let the seniors comment on this part.
Cosmetic part, if you are planning to use the bike for years, a complete rebuild is recommended though it will cost you a lot, plus people may tell you are crazy(currently I am hearing this) Buy new parts right from the piston cylinder kit to the nut bolts for worry free years ahead.
Chrome the parts or get new one..same with the tank and side panels. With a new tank you get something that's new inside and outside.with repainting you get only a new outside.also it costs around the same.do try to get a new tank. These are my humble suggestions.Hope these helps you

RX 100 Parts Catalogue
RX 135 Parts Catalogue
RXG workshop manual

Top speed - RX
What is the top speed of your RX?! I know a lot of jokers who claim that their bike does a meter lock (140kmph!) just by doing a mild exhaust port job.
140kmph is pretty much the target you are looking at when you first start fiddling with your bike BUT what does it really take to get there???
Here's mine -
RX 135 4 speeder:
Stock - 100kph(On the speedo)
Mods:
-Exhaust port widened
-Custom expansion chamber (Yet to upjet the carbs)
Now - 110kph

Re: A practical guide to buying & rebuilding Yamaha RX
Hi, I am in the process of fulfilling my long term dream of owning a RX 135. All the RXs that I have come across are very abused and not in good shape. Now yesterday I have come across a bike, which I hope is neat. The owner says that it has just run 20k kms and running on stock bore.
Now this is where I need the help of experts here. Is there any way to verify/check if the bike is running on original bore? Same goes for the meter reading, is there any way to verify it. Please help me out with this, as I intend to keep the bike with me all my life. I will be going to see the bike tomorrow .
Thanks in advance.

Re: A practical guide to buying & rebuilding Yamaha RX
RX for sale will be in that condition mostly, a Rx that Is taken care well will never be for sale. So expect to buy something that is in decent condition.Originally posted by miles_hungry View PostAll the RXs that I have come across are very abused and not in good shape.
To check the bore size you have to open the head or else just believe whatever the owner says. Meter reading too can be changed or the meter itself might have replaced.Originally posted by miles_hungry View PostIs there any way to verify/check if the bike is running on original bore?
