Re: A practical guide to buying & rebuilding Yamaha RX

Thanks for the prompt reply. Even I guessed the same and your confirmation seconds it.

I also wanted to clarify one more thing, I am mainly looking for a 5speed RX 135. But I have read in many reviews and opinions and the low end grunt of the 5speed is lower than a 4speed. Is that difference very significant or its marginal? I could not figure that out myself as that 5speeds that I have come across were in very bad shape and the 4speeds were comparatively better. So, I found the initial pick up of 4speeds much better.

RX experts please let me know if there is actually a huge difference in initial pick up between the 2 models if they are in same condition. If yes then I would start looking for 4speeds as I am mainly looking for 0-60 performance. Top end doesn't matter much for me. If initial performance is similar then I will stick to my hunt for 5speeds.

ASFAIK the 5 speed ports are set for mid to top end performance, so most probably its best for highways, still i wont recommend this as RX at 3 digits are not so sure footed. These bikes are never meant to ride for their top speed. Its fun riding at 70-80 KMPH

i dont think its that significant as the reasons i have already mentioned above

Then its best for you to buy a 4 speed. Considering the ease of parts availability i will say if you can get a RX 100 its the best, though a minor increase in power is there for 135. 4 speed is equipped for low to mid range performance and is best for city riding.

Re: A practical guide to buying & rebuilding Yamaha RX

Hello everybody, on my quest of finding a neat RX 135, yesterday I had come across a really clean bike. The bike looked and sounded well, it rode even better. Odo reading says 20k something kms, which I am highly skeptical as the digits were not aligned properly. On asking about the bore, the owner said that its running on stock bore. He also offered me to get it check my a mechanic.

I want to know if I get the bore checked by a mechanic by opening the engine head, would that hamper the engine? or would it result in oil leaks n all in future. I really want to get it checked because the quoted price is very high, and I will agree to that price only if the bore is original.

just replace the head gasket with a new one when you open the head for inspection that would resolve your fears about compression leak

Re: A practical guide to buying & rebuilding Yamaha RX

hi all, my Rx 135 5S has come for rebore, mechanic told me to get the below parts,

                a. Engine bearing (6204 and 6205)
                b. Pin bearing
                c. Clutch plate kit
                d. Oil seal kit
                e. Packing kit
                f. Engine Oil
                g. Screw kit engine

till now it is running on .5 size, i would like to rebore it to next size .75 (please suggest which company piston to go for)

when the mechanic opened the bore, he showed me the below few things

                1. connecting rod is having horizontal ply (as per my understanding it would be 35mm to 40mm at piston end), and he told
it has to be adjusted. i am not sure what work has to be done here.

my question here is, replacing the engine bearing solves the problem? or does it require any kind of work here?

                2. clutch bell is have some ply for that he told to replace the rubber seal on clutch bell, will it solve the problem? (however i am going for new clutch plates)

Please share your thoughts on my above queries.

I would request ppl from bangalore to suggest a place in bangalore to get the good rebore work done. also suggest me the shop where i can
get the parts mentioned above(when i asked in near by showroom ,indiranagar, they suggested me to go to JC road).

All these parts are available off the shelf.

For 135 company recommends only 2 oversizes and you have reached the end. ART piston is the best and i dont know whether you will get 0.75 OS.

                  1. connecting rod is having horizontal ply (as per my understanding it would be 35mm to 40mm at piston end), and he told

Replacing the engine or crank bearing will not solve excess sideways play. You have to rebuild the crank with new bearings, lower big bearing of the crank. Or else buy a new one

                  2. clutch bell is have some ply for that he told to replace the rubber seal on clutch bell, will it solve the problem? (however i am going for new clutch plates)

Get a new one or give to lathe so that they can replace

                    go for escorts/mahle /goetze

depending on the condition of the conrod you might get away with resetting it else you will have to replace the conrod kit

the damper bushes are worn out , get them replaced from the lathe shops, wwill work out cheaper as new clutch assembly costs over 4k, also check the pressure plate and clutch boss for wear and tear and replace as necessary
