  • Monsoon Ride to Viajaywada on deadliest NH-9.

Recently, I have done two trips to Vijayawada within a gap of a month; first ride on Stunner FI and the second on Unicorn Dazzler. This is a combined trip log and includes pictures from both trips.

Incidentally, both the rides are very similar in nature. Started on Saturday morning with heavy clouds (rained heavily the last night). Initially, hesitated whether to ride in rain as the NH-9 is very dangerous. For initial 50-75 kms the ride was cool with no rain. For the remaining 220 kms it rained and rode in rain till Vijayawada. Both the trips took 8 hours.

On Sunday, due to heavy rains, gave complete rest to bike, except in the last trip, where I visited my sister’s place (near Tenali) on Dazzler, which was an awesome ride with paddy fields on either side. On Sunday, in the first trip, went to paddy fields and played with kids.

Started on Monday back to Hyderabad and reached home by evening. It was cloudy and no rains, except in second ride where it rained for 20 minutes.

CBF Stunner FI is excellent for long rides and enjoyed each and every minute on it. No back pains even after prolonged rides, the riding position is sporty yet very very comfortable. On the other hand, the Dazzler is very commuterish and needed getting adjusted to the riding position. On the whole, I prefer Stunner than Dazzler for long rides.

CBF Stunner gave me an amazing FE of more than 65 kmpl at 70 kmph speeds. Dazzler gave me 48 kmpl at speeds 70-80 kmph. Did not push the Dazzler much as the engine is still new (just 1200 kms on odo) and there were heavy crosswinds.
I have done trips to Viajaywada at least 15 times on bike (numerous times on car and bus). I know each and every corner and turn on this road, the traffic behavior, and how dangerous to ride on this road. Riding in rain on this road is particularly very challenging due to heavy truck traffic and deadly Volvo and RTC buses. At many places the roads gone completely bad due to heavy rains. You need to be very very very careful to ride on this road if you are riding for the first time. Also, morning and evening, herds of sheep and buffaloes occupy the

    Now pictures will speak…

The above are first day’s pictures. More and more pics to come….

Beautiful pictures there, Ravi, from a very familiar territory. I've always found Vijaywada-Hyderabad stretch to be quite challenging due to narrow road and heavy traffic. That statue of Lord Hanuman few kms before entering Vijaywada.

But you have put an entirely different pictures of that stretch. Waiting for more pictures.

    Travelogue approved.

Sunil, I was able to take pics only on the four-lane part of this highway. Widening of the 180-km single lane is being done now and I did not take pics as it was raining continuously. I rode in rain for 200 km at a stretch on Stunner without even a break.

I put only first days pictures and will post the remaining pics soon.

What a B.E.Autiful pictures @Ravi; so much of beauty. Is it the camera or the person behind the lens or the location itself? The pictures are doing justice for the word - "Monsoon". Now show us what's "deadly". Waiting to see more...

The NH-9 is a deadly highway as so many accidents lead to thousands of deaths in the last 5 years. The road is a single lane with heavy and heavy traffic. Trucks would form a train and overtaking is a pain on this road. Riding a two-wheeler on this road is very dangerous. You have to be very very careful. The buses and cars will push you off the road in the overtaking process. Volvos and car drivers would loose patience trailing behind a truck-train (a series of trucks that go around 30 kmph speed) and eventually push themselves to do dangerous feats resulting in accidents.

            More pictures from 2nd day..

In my write-up I mentioned that this is a combined trip log. I did two trips to Viajaywada in a month; the first trip with Stunner and the second trip with Dazzler. Both the rides are very very similar in each aspect. The travelling destination, climate, time, everything same till I reach back. So, I combined both of them.

Ohh ok! Thanks for clarifying that ... I actually didn't go through the log as yet..

May be that's why you mentioned the comparo(b/w Dazzeler & Stunner) in the other thread..

So beautiful Ravi; I guess I need to do this road someday. So beautiful as it looks like the villages in movies. Still I'm not sure, is it the magic of place or the lens or the man behind the lens? It looks damn beautiful than even Pollachi.

@aargee, I am glad that you liked the pictures. Actually, it is the combined magic of the place, lens and the man behind. The NH-9 between Hyderabad and Vijayawada is 280 kms, out of which around 90 km is four lane. The remaining 190 kms is single lane and is in bad shape due to heavy rains, and on this stretch I did not stop as it was raining and could not take pictures. Due to heavy rainfall this season the fields are overflooded and the four-lane near vijayawada became a beautiful stretch with lots greenery around. The pictures on the first page are on the four-lane stretch.

The pictures on this page are actually in coastal villages. I traveled from Vijaywada to Tenali and to nearby villages. In monsoons, these villages are heaven to look (of course, the roads will be in bad shape at many places, but the greenery around is worth giving a visit).

If you want to ride on NH-9, you better do it when the four-laning is complete. The road is so dangerous, it is difficult to ride clean without any close shaves and I am sure you will curse the road when it happens. According to NHAI guidelines, this road should have been six lanes 6 years back.

There is another thread coming from me which shows a surrounding place of Hyderabad and I am sure you would love even more.

Wonderful locations and nice shots Ravi! Loved the greenery and also the sunset shots at the end.

BTW, is this also part of NH9?
