  • Encounter with Chakrata

A warm greetings to all xBHPians!!!
In-spite of being late on this wonderful community of ours, Please allow me to share some of my travel experiences...
Let me start with a weekend ride to Chakrata, a small hamlet in the Uttarakhand, situated approx 2000mts ASL. Thiugh it was a short weekend ride, But the place has left a significant impression on my heart and soul. Its so beautiful. So here I go...

I got the new CBZ Xtreme 6 months back in August, leaving office early around 4-5 and going to Morni, Kasauli or a short ride on NH-22 has become usual, in between I could not realize that I have become addicted to mountain biking. I started longing for more and started going on one day trip to Shimla, Kufri, Chail, and other nearby areas.
One day I was looking at the leave calendar and came to know there is a long weekend at the September end. Monday and Friday was holiday so I planned to take leave of 3 days and get off from the office for 9 days  in between the project work on full swing. But I was sticked to the plan and got the leaves, though I had to pay for it later in the form of extended working hours, night-out etc. I have travelled for Gangotri, Gaumukh and Badrinath.
Here I am not going to write about this long journey but the weekend trip to Chakrata.
It has been four months since I had gone for a long ride except the same Kasauli, Kufri, Chail, Gaura etc.
So the travel keeda inside me was cursing again and again. I was thinking about a beautiful weekend destination, thought of Harsil but was disappointed to know that it is closed due to winter. Called Tilak sir (a friend on *********.com) and he suggested Chakrata.
Now I was thinking nothing but the Chakrata, opened the Map, browsed through the blogs and asked for the suggestions/fellow traveler in the office. But as expected there was no one. So this time also I was alone (as always).

    Devban:

On day 1 I have asked people about the sunrise time, each person told me different time. After analyzing all answers, I have decided to be ready for sunrise at 6am, got up at 5:20 and was ready at 5:45. To my surprise there was completely dark outside (you can say: Haath ko haath nahi soojhta tha ) but I was too optimistic that Sun uncle will be coming very soon. But later I realized that he was too busy in some other things to come until it was 7:15. So I have to wait for more than 1 hour to see the Sunrise.

    AND HERE IT COMES...

GOLDEN PAINTED NATURE IN THE MORNING

It was 7:30 am when I left for Tiuni from Chakrata. The road to Tiuni was not good at all. Actually it was just a kachcha rasta until I reached Saura(a small town).

In between, I passed through some densed forests, deserted mountains (because of winter) and sometime it was skidding too.

AND THIS WAS THE BEST PART OF THE JOURNEY

There is nothing much to write about between tiuni to Shimla/Chandigarh except some good views in between.

    HATKOTI

My target was to reach Shimla by 3, though I have missed the target by around half an hour or so. Reached Kufri at 3:30 and it took me 30 more mins to cross Shimla from kufri. I rode non-stop until I reached Chandigarh form Fagu. It took me around 2 and a half hour from Fagu to Chandigarh.

Lovely! Chankrata is a lovely place; through your log I have revisited the place. Do go through the log that I had penned quite some-time back (on xBhp).
