  • Spiti - White and Frozen

Fire and ice. There was a strange synergy between them. Ice and freezing wind around us and fire within the engines of our steeds. Spiti is almost a destination of habit for me now. This was my 9th ride into the valley and was I dazzled! Never before had I witnessed the 'unveiling' of this mystic valley as it shrugs off its white winter shroud and emerges afresh. The Himalayas are a land of superlatives. Their grandeur and magnificence is beyond utterance in the language of words. And Spiti is their most well guarded secret. The brusque contours of this cold Himalayan desert lay spread out this time as an endless vista of innumerable shades of 'snowy' white mixed with the azure blue of the sky. That just two colours could make for more fascinating vistas than the entire gamut of shades and hues of other seasons becomes apparent only when seen and experienced first hand.

I had been wanting a winter sojourn with Spiti since for quite long. Imran (B2L), Aryan and Anshul (Anshuluniyal) voiced a similar craving and things took shape for mid-March. Aryan unfortunately couldn't go as he fell sick, much to our and his disappointment. We couldn't postpone the ride as the snow begins melting pretty quickly once the sun begins shining regularly and going by what my contacts in Kaza and Puh told me, they were experiencing bright and sunny days through the week.

We left Delhi on the 13th morning and returned on the 20th evening. On two ZMA-R's and one P200. No issues with either of the bikes except for a couple of punctures in the P200's rear tyre. Why only the same bike..we have no idea at all . We rode as far as the roads were 'open', which was just a little past Kaza towards the village Rangrik. We could also ride into the Pin Valley till Guiling Village and describing it even as 'spectacular' would be a gross understatement. The road was mostly snow and ice free though there were patches which required utmost caution to ride through. It has been an amazing experience, almost unbelievably so and we shall be sharing it here with you all as best we can through the feeble powers of words and the 'not so feeble' visuals!!

Over to Imran and Anshul for some detailed narratives.

I had always had this dream of riding to a place like Spiti, during this time of the year when there would be oodles of snow, and the temperature would be well below the freezing point.

These photographs look extra-ordinary, really; something which cannot be described in words. I sure hope there is LOADS of more text and pictures to follow, which would be equally mind-bending as these.

As much as I wanted to be a part of this ride, unfortunately I could not as I fell sick a week before this was to happen. I was tremendously heart-broken, yes, but I was also happy of the fact that three of the BEST riders (and my close friends) around were about to do what perhaps, not many get to do - ride to Spiti during March! I was eagerly waiting for this travelogue to follow.

@OF sir/ B2L/ Anshul: Please accept a hearty congratulation from my end, for successfully completing this trip. It is something which one cannot really do whenever he/ she wants, but rather needs to be planned well in advance. And a ride like this leaves a wonderful memory which can NEVER be erased.

I wish you all more of such rides in the future, out of which I hope I could be a part of one. Thank you OF sir for sharing this. It is an extra-ordinary feeling just reading through the text and looking at these photographs. I cannot even begin to comprehend how it must have felt! Fantastic!

Simply terrific and amazing journey. The teaser photos so far are out of this world, the crisp and punchy text perfectly complements them.

Trust me, New Zealand and other countries dont hold a candle to the raw beauty and the supernatural aura of the Himalayas and its valleys. I was also pleasantly surprised to know that the photos have been taken by a non-DSLR camera.

Again, I would have loved to be a part of the experience, soon, soon...

to start with .. congratulations to riders ... a fantastic journey which is a dream for many.

and thats the end of my write up .. cause to write anything more or to comment anything more in TEXT would be a disrespect of top level. So I am gonna go meet all of them and listen to every thought and word they wish to share.

Whenever I see these kind of pics I wonder do these place really flourish on earth. I mean they are so beautiful. How lucky you guys are who got to witness, smell and touch the nature at its best from so close. Today Imran sir was there at g2g but I never got to know about this trip . I was too engrossed with trip stories of Ravi Bhaiya . Anyways I won't waste my time in regret and will just stare the beauties captured and will wonder How they can be so beautiful? and will ask God and Parents when they will let me go there and make me feel lucky .

Congrats to the team for a special ride.

Only one thing - the images have not been adequately processed. Someone like Sunny bhai could do magic with these lovely captures.
