  • Help needed.. New in GQ business

    Hello All,

    Furthest I have been from my home (in Kolkata) using GQ roads are till Varanasi (North) and Vijag (South).

    This February, me and a good friend of mine (switching riders) is targeting a non stop and a quick lap around the GQ.

    Therefore asking help to plan the journey.
    • Bike we plan to use is P220 DTSi giving (still need to confirm with practice run) mileage of 28/30 in higher RPMs (between 7 to 8k) when with pillion rider.
    • We plan to stop only for fuel and toilet
    • 2 engine oil change / 3 times chain slackness adjust and 4/5 air filter may be (all when in fuel stops, by our self)
    • We assume every 6 hours we would need a stop for fuel and rider switch
    • Planing to build a custom harness to strap the pillion rider so that he dont fall if in sleep, I do understand the balancing factor, we have been doing some practice
    • We plan to stay in liquid and fast food diet (still planning as what should the food) eat while seating as pillion.
    • Target? Nothing as such, just would like to keep on going to see how much we can manage (80 / 85 hours may be ??)

    Need help understanding the route, fuel stops (where to make) and for some other logistical (how to document the ride ??)

    Thanks..

    update

    Plan so far..

    Start date ETD -> February 2nd early morning to enter fog zone (barhi at around 8/8.30.. Target, Reaching delhi by night fall (16/18 hours may be) 8/10 on 2nd Feb..

    Crossing Rajasthan section (i never rode here) in night hours, so I dont have any idea aboiut time it would take to cross and speed which I can maintain.. Target is to maintain a speed of at around 95/100 on speedo hence possible arvg may be around 80.

    Delhi (after bypassing the city traffic) to Jaipur 4 hours may be So by 3rd Feb 0000hours or such reaching jaipur (do I need currection ??) Oil change i guess would take place in a fuel stop in this section..

    Jaipur to Udaypur --> Which route to take ?? NH8 or should I divart to NH79A/ NH76 (need to think about petrol pumps too which are open in mid night) route before kishangarh ?? Kms range same, around 400kms, meaing by early morning 5 (if no fog then only) 3rd feb reaching Udaypur..

    Udaypur to Ahmedabad -> at around 8.30 / 9 of morning on Feb 3 reaching the city, need bypass (list of places I am confused about is listed below)..

    Ahmedabad - Mumbai (need a city bypass) -> another 6 and a half hours at max since should allow faster speed (being done in daylight. Hence reaching Mumbai (need some personal guideacne) at around 3PM in after noon.. 2 hours may be i guess to find a way to NH4.

    Mumbai - Pune -> bypassing the expressway (bikes not allowed ) so no idea how much speed we can maintain in "other" road. May be 2 and half hours for mumbai (after city limit) till crissing pune (correction needed if it can be done faster or will it be slower since evening hours??) ?? by 7.30 crossing pune..

    Pune till B'lore -> around 800 kms, since better road but night hours, so again thinking of 95/100 (i am told I can do better though being night hours because of better roads) so around 10 hours of 10 and a half hours may be ??? looking for personal help again here in B'lore to avoid those police interceptors and city traffic to get to chennai route as fast as possbile.. By early morning 4th Feb 5 / 5.30 would be crossing b'lore

    B'lore - Chennai (NH4 / NH4A) -> 350 kms, done in day light hoping for 90+ arvg meaning 4 hours may be ?? by morning 10AM of fourth reaching chennai (need an oil chance), looking for personal help to bypass the city to be NH5 as soon as possible.

    Chennai - Kolkata (NH5 1800kms) -> it include body fatugue and extreme stress. Bad road of orrisa (Vadrak - Balasore). Hoping a 24 hours time here with arvg of 75 incl fuel stops.. Need help to bypass Vijaywada I guess ??

    List of place where I feel of needing help are.. In some personal guidace is really important where as in some point A to point B google map would be a really helpful..

    * Mughal sarai (if any bypass availavle ??)
    * Varanasi (if any way to avoid city traffic)
    * Allahabad (again, city traffic -> if possible some to guide for faster route out)
    * Agra (any way to bypass the city traffic ??)
    * Delhi (NH2 - NH8) Would like to bypass the city without entering it (personal guideance will be really helpful)
    * Jaipur (NH8 to NH8 bypassing the city)
    * Udaipur (bypassing the city)
    * Ahmedabad (bypassing city, is bikes allowed in vadovora expressway ?)
    * Mumbai (NH8 to NH4 bypassing the city, personal help would be really helpful)
    * Mumbai - Pune expressway Bypass (bikes are not allowed so which route ??)
    * Chitradurga (bypassing)
    * B'lore (NH4 to NH4 bypassing the city
    * Chennai (NH to NH5)
    * Ongol (bypassing the city)
    * Vijaywada (bypassing the city traffic)

    Food is also a major concern since initially we though we can purchase MRE, but it seems its not available to for civilian.. We are still in dark about food (chocolate / dry fruits) ??, as if we dont find MRE..

    Need to please the GOD of FOG as dont know what to expect in Delhi - mumbai section in night hours ..

            Hey!

            Sorry I could not respond to your email.

            Now what I did was, Delhi-Varanasi-Kolkata-Vizag-Chennai-Bangalore-Mumbai-Udaipur-Delhi

            Delhi-Varanasi is a dream to ride as the roads are butter smooth and lonely as well, same is the case with Varanasi-kolkata

            However, things get changed on the Kolkata-Vizag stretch. although you keep mooving at an "OK" pace, but the roads are not upto GQ standards. However, if you planning to rush through it, this would take you the maximum time. The worst part starts just before Bhubaneshwar, and its damn irritating. it became even irritating for me as it started raining.

            Rest is all good to go. However, exiting Mumbai via Dadar is a real pain. It took me two long hours to get out of Mumbai, just because of traffic density and bad roads up to Vapi.

            After Vapi the "real" NH8 starts and you will mostly ride on a 6 lane highway until you reach Vadodra. After Vadodra, the road until A'bad is single lane but almost free of potholes, you can keep your bike above 70.

            Roads of Rajasthan can sometimes get lonely. I mean, they literally run to bite you. So I wont mind if you say that you crossed Rajasthan without even stopping. And that's a plus if you want to rush through it.

            Since you live in Kolkata, I would suggest that you should do the GQ clockwise as the first patch that you would be riding on is the worst. Hence, being fresh and enthusiastic would make you cross that easily without any moral dampening!

            Write in if you have more doubts!

            As far as the average part is concerned, you cannot ride continuously for 6 hours on one tank full of a 220. Moreover, if you plan to keep the bike moving, you cannot do with an oil change thrice. Even a fully synth would also need something more than that.

            And initially the plan for riding and riding between fuel stops seems fine, but as you progress into the ride you would need frequent breaks and you might also regret carrying a pillion.

              I STRONGLY agree to this; you should consider doing the bad stretches first & keep the best for the last.

              But can I ask one question? Why do you want to hurry up as if to prove something? This is something not done everyday, try to relax & do it. I'd say probably what Karan or Bluevolt did was something to once in a life time.

                Well...even I would say he's into a record. The present record stands somewhere around 100hours for the entire GQ stretch. I remember reading it somewhere. And it would be great if these guys could make it in 80+ hours.

                @ Hunky

                Arrange for a smaller rear sprocket to have a greater top end. This would also mean less stretch on the engine.

                  I do have quite a few. I will be listing them one by one as i progress with the plan using all these valuable in puts..

                  Yes, me to figuring that out.. 450/500 kms is what in which a fuel stop would be needed.. So lets not talk about hours rather lets talk about KMS..

                  Secondly, we plan to carry pillion since I alone cant ride non stop for 6000 kms..

                  Idea is to stop only for fuel.. and change the rider in every fuel stop..

                  I think we would require 14 fuel stops..

                  Now tell me, if used Motul 5100 15w50, what should be the drain interval ??

                  Hmm.. I thought keeping everything stock (apart from the head light)..

                  I too did a lot of reading in internet about the present reqords, and here is what I managed to find out..

                  Code:
                  Fastest LAQ on two wheels -> By single rider, Dr. Arnob Gupta 119 hours using original ZMA

                  Second Fastest Lap time -> Team of two, sponsored by Yamaha using Yamaha R15 clocking 146 hours.

                  Fastest by any mean (Source 1) -> NDTV Report, Six crew member using unknown vehicle within 76 hours

                  Fastest by any mean (Source 2) -> a blog post claiming 85 hours being the fastest using 4 member crew / back up vehicle using Honda CRV

                  Yes, like you, we still (as of Dec 12, 2010) are confused about the record timings. I am in touch with Editor of Limca Book of Records, to find out what exactly are the facts.

                        Hi, i might add something in here considering the mumbai - delhi section via udaipur. you should take NH-76 before entering udaipur. this will take you all the way to kishangarh (near Jaipur) & will save a lot of time.

                        this might be of help to you.
                        If yesterday was the day, why i am still alive.....if tomorrow is decided for me, i cann't change it...let it come...they way it wants to...i might not win...but i will make sure that even you would not win easily...

                        A kind note, with love

                        To The Death God...

                            NH 76 doesn't fall under GQ but if you are thinking of quicker times then this is the Highway to take. Four laned with hardly any traffic, infact kilometers without a single vehicle on road.
