Let me know where exactly you are thinking of taking NH76?

You need to cover Jaipur - Delhi also which is in complete mess nowadays. Plan in such a way that you cover that in daylight else you see traffic jam ranging from 4-10km long and no I'm not joking. This stretch of 250km should take around 4.5hrs. I took around 6hours in night just 15days back.

For 5100 ideal drain period is 2000km without any performance drop but you can easily stretch upto 2500km.

Edit: Got it. While you are coming from Ahmedabad you will automatically take the NH76 outside Udaipur and not NH8.

Any possible detour to save time ??

Or will the NH8 through jaypur will be the fastest possible route ??

Same goes for Delhi also as is there any faster way to get in to NH2 from NH8 without entering the Delhi city limit ??

Sadly there is none. You have to cross that stretch and hence I suggested that the best will be to cover it in daylight. Fatality rates are also increasing in that stretch coz of long traffic jams.

There is one but route is confusing and neither quick. Going through Delhi is a much better option and you should exit Delhi in 45mins-1hr. Once you enter Delhi limits you will be welcomed with big boards with proper directions. Just before airport don't take the flyover instead take a right turn under it for Mahipalpur/Mehrauli/Vasant Kunj. Just go straight on this road till you reach Badarpur which is the exit for Delhi. This stretch is around 30kms.

Mumbai is confusing. If you are new then you will loose time so its better that you take help from some xBhpian.

Pune is easy as the highway completely bypasses the city.

Yes two wheelers are not allowed on Mumbai - Pune expressway but the old highway (NH-4) is also 4 laned and is quick so don't worry about that. After Khandala there is a section where you will enter expressway as there is no other way, you will be on expressway for around 10km and leave the expressway for Khopoli which comes immediately after a tunnel crossing on left.

Dont know much about the pune city but after you leave pune take the old mumbai pune highway.......conditions are good you can easily cruise at 90+ speeds.....after lonavala you can enter the mumbai pune expressway....which sadly you will have to leave at the khopoli exit.....then after you can again cruise at 90+ speeds.........

CAUTION:beware of some villages and crossings in between...

then you can ride till panvel........from there take the panvel bypass till kalamboli......at the circle take the round and you will be soon on a road to thane crossing shilphata-mumbra-kausa......the road is total offroading.....then from thane taking the ghodbunder road to NH8....and HOLA!!! you have bypassed mumbai traffic!!!!!
(speeds will only be a concern in thane city as they have surprise checks enroute)

well, dont go for google maps, try mapmyndia instead.

while you ride on the NH8 towards Delhi, there would be a Y intersection. To your left is Udaipur, go straight to reach th eNH8 and turn right to hop on to NH76 and NH79. For the road conditions, check out my IBA SS run

Courageous effort due.. my best wishes for you.

After such a nice thread and lots of suggestion and wishes, I am damn sure you can achieve it.

Just wanted to put few points based on my experience of my recent trip from blore- jaipur.

                      1) blore -pune, don't even ask where to go, its just too smooth and too simple, just maintain you avg speed.

                      2) Crossing pune is a cakewalk as the bypass will allow you to cross the city without any difficulty.

                      3) Now when it comes to Express highway, definitely take Old highway NH4, roads are excellent and you can reach panvel with good avg speed, Here for a stretch of around 30 Km(hope i am not wrong here) you have to come on expressway, just drive carefully on that as i found that with bike you feel slippery there.

                      4) once you enter mumbai city, make sure you don't come on express highway and cross the city via mumbra, thane, ghodbundhar route which is very confusing at some places, so need some guidance, definitely don't trust google map for crossing mumbai. It took me 3+ hours and lots of confusion in crossing mumbai city, so better plan for it.

                      5) I am not sure whether evereybody faced the same situation or not but when i came on Mumbai - Surat highway, i found a really long traffic jam(may be due to weekend or diwali rush) stretching upto 4-6Kms which i used to find only on Jaipur-Delhi route at nights specially.

                      6) Once you take NH8 please follow it till Ahemdabad completely, don't take any SH in Gujrat. In my journey i did this mistake, i took a SH from vasad to reach rajasthan border directly without going to ahemdabad, but that was the worst possible route i faced in whole journey, so better avoid any SH.

                      7) Once you enter rajasthan, try to cross/start from udaipur in morning say arnd 7-8am, by doing so, you can make sure that you will cross whole rajasthan in day and will enter delhi before evening. with this plan you can avoid the traffic jam in between jaipur-delhi and reach delhi with no hurdle.

                      Udaipur- jaipur (8am-2pm)
                      Jaipur- Delhi(2pm-6pm)

**Traffic jam in jaipur-delhi route happens mostly either early morning or in night.

                      8) for rajasthan you better take udaipur-chittorgarh-ajmer-kishangarh-jaipur route, definitely the best roads i found in my journey, you won't find any rush here and you can even maintain an avg speed of 90+ here.

Hope all of that helps, my best wishes for you trip.

Furthest I have been from my home (in Kolkata) using GQ roads are till Varanasi (North) and Vijag (South).

This February, me and a good friend of mine (switching riders) is targeting a non stop and a quick lap around the GQ.

Therefore asking help to plan the journey.
                          • Bike we plan to use is P220 DTSi giving (still need to confirm with practice run) mileage of 28/30 in higher RPMs (between 7 to 8k) when with pillion rider.
                          • We plan to stop only for fuel and toilet
                          • 2 engine oil change / 3 times chain slackness adjust and 4/5 air filter may be (all when in fuel stops, by our self)
                          • We assume every 6 hours we would need a stop for fuel and rider switch
                          • Planing to build a custom harness to strap the pillion rider so that he dont fall if in sleep, I do understand the balancing factor, we have been doing some practice
                          • We plan to stay in liquid and fast food diet (still planning as what should the food) eat while seating as pillion.
                          • Target? Nothing as such, just would like to keep on going to see how much we can manage (80 / 85 hours may be ??)

Need help understanding the route, fuel stops (where to make) and for some other logistical (how to document the ride ??)

                          Thanks..

                            • I still remember, you said once to me in chandi, "this is the way as it is, I will have to come for you when you buy a bike as you are here for me for PC"

I am somehow not convinced of two riders on one Motorcycle.

The whole dynamics of a Motorcycle change and it shall be a pain to ride hard if you are looking for a quick wrap.

Doc hopes to do the GQ next time around in 100 hours. His more than 10 hours were wasted due to few unsuspecting moments.

                                +1

even I'm not in the favor of two on a bike... And as a matter of fact, you would also be carrying a backpack with some tools and other stuff.

Well even I had a backpack on, however my case was different. The bag was actually resting on the rear seat of the bike. But in your case, you will not be able allow the bag to rest anywhere except your back...and that would be an arrrgggghhhh moment once your shoulders start paining
