    Day 2

With temperatures pretty low and good sound sleep the night before, waking up and getting out of those warm blankets on Day 2 seemed like an impossible task. But with no choice we woke up one by one and started getting ready. There was hot water to the tap and a refreshing hot water bath was just the right thing needed in that cold morning.

With bags packed and geared up we left the hotel room and went to the counter for check out procedure. From our last stay at the hotel I remembered that they also serve breakfast in the morning. Since no one wanted to have food that early in the morning we ordered only tea and by the time we got it didn't miss any chance of clicking and posing for a few pictures. Here they are..

Special thanks to Kadam mama(Hotel owner) for clicking our group photo

Umesh had brought bourbon biscuits(my favorite ) from Mumbai. Having hot cup of tea and biscuits under the tree shade on a cold morning was something different Taking greetings from the hotel owner, we bid him good bye and headed towards Hathkhamba via the narrow state highway. Just a few kms before NH17 exit we stopped at a decent looking HP petrol pump and tanked up our bikes.

Once back on NH17, it was a smooth ride towards Goa. I was leading the pack and rest of the two were shuffling their places in the formation. Like Hotel Ayoddhya at Chiplun, I had fixed our first breakfast stop at Hotel Saraswati in Rajapur. * Another recommended hotels for tasty misal pav and tea.

Leaving early morning has it's own advantages. Everything looks so pleasant, fresh and inviting. Even the roads. No traffic and beautiful curves were just enough for us to build up the confidence and set the mood for the day. It was a smooth ride till Rajapur where we took our first break as planned.

Kharepatan is one of Umesh's friend's native place. While having breakfast Umesh told us that he'll pay a quick visit to his place on the way. With no hurry to reach Goa we agreed and hit the road after breakfast.

The ghat just before Kharepatan was the best stretch of road till that point, may be because we were riding our hearts out in that ghat. All 3 of us cornering hard, that too with heavy luggage on our back, occasionally playing with a Skoda and a Linea. Aah, that was some fun. But the fun ride soon hit a speed breaker as we stopped at Kharepatan. Both Umeshs went inside the village while I preferred to stay out on the highway.

The above pic was clicked while I had a quick smoke and I had absolutely no idea of what destiny had to offer us ahead. I saw these guys coming back in around 10-15 mins and quickly geared up. We moved ahead in the same formation, me leading the group and the other two following me. The ghat before Kharepatan had bumped our confidence to high level but holding the nerves and stopping the confidence turn into over confidence needs experience. Which exactly was lacking in the other two riders.

We had a smooth ride till Kankavali where we encountered minor traffic due to market. With mind filled with over confidence, both these riders overtook me and zoomed ahead. I should have opened up the throttle, chased them and taken back the lead but I thought they've been following me for hundreds of kms. Let's not make them feel offended and let them ride ahead of me for sometime. I continued at the same speed of 75-80 kmph whereas they, I think, were doing 90-95 kmph.

After hardly 15 mins of riding, I saw a mob standing on the left hand side of the road a few hundred meters ahead. I sensed something is wrong and paid attention towards the mob as I slowed down. I saw our R15 rider with a sad face standing on the shoulder and people around him asking questions to him. I though phuck noww what happened. I pulled over and gestured him asking what happened. He gestured back, 'I crashed'

With a totally blank mind, I switched off my bike, got off and ran towards him. Without asking a single question I checked him from all the sides for any injuries. People around told me, don't worry he's alright. Umesh, himself wasn't in a condition to say anything. When I checked the bike, there were scratches on the right hand side fairing, RVM, Indicator and exhaust(in short on most parts of the right side of the bike). When I asked the people what exactly happened, they said, Umesh was following an ST bus very close to it's rear end, which in turn was following a truck ahead. ST driver was thinking of overtaking the truck while a Tavera was heading towards it in the opposite lane. When the ST driver sensed that he can't make the move safely he applied braked hard coming to a stop. Since Umesh was close to the rear end, he had little time to react, got panicked and locked his rear wheel due to hard braking. Launch pad proved his name once again and crashed due to rear wheel lock up. Fortunately speed wasn't much and no vehicle was following him. Otherwise I definitely had an ugly scene in front of me.

I thanked those who helped him get up and moved out of the road and asked them to move on. I had two problems in front of me.. 1. Umesh's R15's yellow engine malfunction light was blinking and bike refused to start and 2. The other and least experienced P200 rider was no where to be seen. It was obvious that he missed this crash and went ahead. I tried contacting him on his cell phone but his cell was out of coverage area We switched off the bike's keys and waited for couple of minutes. Then tried to start the bike and thankfully the bike started. That was such a relief.

Umesh's confidence was totally shattered and he was finding difficult to keep up with me at even 50 kmph. And this other A**hole simply kept riding till Sawantwadi. Constantly keeping an eye in the RVM for Umesh, I was riding towards Sawantwadi and another crash was the last thing I expected.

At Sawantwadi there's a junction, where one road goes inside the city and other to Goa. The P200 rider had taken the wrong road and entered the city. Can't explain in words, how much confusion I had been through Even after explaining few basic rules again and again he made the same mistake. I had told them to stop right away if you don't see any rider in your RVM for more than 5 minutes, if you are at the lead or middle of the pack. Still this fella carried on and got lost. After long wait and some frantic phone call attempts he returned to the point where we were waiting for us. When he came back I took out all my frustration on him and he didn't say a word like a good boy

Among all these incidences and confusion, we didn't realize how time passed by and it was lunch time. I took them to Hotel Chaitanya, just off NH17, where I had had food long back. *Another recommended restaurant for tasty veg/non veg Malwani style food.

A few photographs at the hotel.

Analyzing the crash, relaxing at the hotel after lunch and a few jokes here and there lightened the mood and also helped Umesh get back his confidence by diverting his mind away from the ugly scene. We had a small journey ahead of us with just one risky ghat to cross. I was again leading the pack at a controlled speed and guiding them safely through the shady, risky ghat. This ghat is being resurfaced and hence there was lot of loose gravel and stones on the road. After crossing the ghat safely, we cruised towards Goa. Crossing the 3 check points and border we entered Goa and the change in road condition was evident. So was the change in the cagers' attitude. With smooth and wide road in front, cagers often go beyond their limits and we saw quite a few close calls upon entering Goa.

We came across some traffic near Mapusa and Porvorim. Making our way through crowded Panjim roads and Mandovi bridge, we left NH17 and entered Raibandar road which later goes through Old Goa and takes us to Cumbarjua, an island. Our destination. Both the riders started enjoying Goa and the vistas around as we reached home.

House was closed for a couple of months and hence was a bit dirty. I cleaned it a bit and filled water in the main water reservoir. Our plan for the rest of the day, or rather night, was to go to Dona Paula beach, relax at the water front while having a cold beer, head to Mira mar beach, have dinner there and then return home after spending sometime at the beach. Everything happened smoothly as planned and they were simply in love with the Dona Paula beach water front. This place is usually crowded by tourists and noisy till 8pm but after that it's a beautiful place to hang out. Total peace of mind at the far end of the jetty, at the water front. Just beautiful. No one to disturb you and the silence.

We returned home in time and chatted for sometime, discussing things that happened that day, next days plans etc before saying Good night to each other.
    Ketan Nikharge.

      Day 3

There's not much of writing in this day's log as there was very little riding done on Day 3. Plan was simple - to visit Old Goa churches, my aunt's place and then dinner in Panjim market at a road side thella, very famous for non veg food.

With a comparatively simpler plan and lesser riding involved, we overslept a bit and woke up late. By the time we left home it was around 10.20 am. We started the day by visiting Hanuman ji's temple which is adjacent to our home.

One of my aunt's friends has a small bakery cum restaurant right next to the ferry. We had a small breakfast at the restaurant as we waited for the ferry.

Foreign tourists enjoying the back water ride

Once on the other side of the river, it's just a 10-12 minutes ride to Old Goa. We found a safe place for parking our rides and with cameras out we were all set to witness and capture the beauty of ancient churches.

      Basilica of Bom Jesus

That's me and Umesh in front of the Church!

Se Cathedral Church, Church of Mary Immaculate conception, St. Cajetan church and some night shots of Panjim chity life coming up..

Thanks buddy! Well yes, it's a tough task to take care of inexperienced riders on such a big trip but then I took this risk only because both of them are very very close friends of mine and I know them very well. Otherwise I don't think I would have taken anybody's responsibility on such a big ride.

Glad to know you liked the trip. Thanks again and ride safe!

Continued from Day 3 log posted above...

            Se Cathedral Church

Se Cathedral church is exactly opposite to Basilica of Bom Jesus. This is one of the largest churches in Asia with a giant church bell and famous for it's exquisite architecture. Enjoy the pictures..

            St. Cajetan Church

We got out of the Se cathedral with awestruck faces and satisfaction. The grandeur and the peaceful atmosphere left us speechless. Next on the list was St. Cajetan church and we learned from a shopkeeper that it's a few hundred meters away and has proper parking available. So we decided to take our bikes along and went to the parking. Clicked the following pic while going to the church..

            The Old Goa circle/chowk.

Some church across River Mandovi atop a hill

Unfortunately I forgot the name of this church Earlier I thought this is the church of st. Augustine but no, this isn't it. It's a beautiful church and by looking it we had a strong feeling that the song "agar tum mill jaao" from the movie Zeher was shot here. Especially the beginning of the song. We had to take a ferry from Old Goa to reach the other shore of the river and then a 2 Km ride till this church. To our bad luck, the church was closed and hence we didn't get a chance to admire it's beauty from the inside. Nevertheless we didn't miss a chance to click some snaps.

            Our bikes on the ferry

Took a smoke break by the lake on our way back to ferry

When we reached Old Goa once again, we all were feeling hungry and I decided to take them to the restaurant where I had had lunch the last time I came to Goa, some mouth watering Goan sea food. We headed to Hotel Visava on the way to Banastari from Old Goa. Couldn't resist clicking a pic of the delicious Surmai thali.

We used to get instant attention every where, especially because of the two MH 01 registered twin R15s People used to start conversation on their own and we felt at home everywhere we had been.

We had visited Dona Paula beach on the previous night but Umesh couldn't enjoy the monument and the sun set from the view point at Dona Paula. Also the Church of Mary Immaculate conception was next on our list. I had been to this church several times before and it is best enjoyed after dark, fully decorated with lights. So after lunch we decided to go to one of my aunt's place at Betim, take rest there for some time followed by a quick visit to a small temple in village Saligao.

Everything happened as decided without any unforeseen incidences and by evening we were at Dona Paula beach enjoying the sunset as it should be. Sitting and relaxing on one of the benches at the view point as the sun went down on the horizon and temperature going down by every minute passed by.

A picture from the Dona Paula view point.

We spent a good two hours relaxing at Dona paula and then left for the church in Panjim.

            Church of Mary Immaculate Conception

As per information found on internet, this church has the 2nd largest church bell in the world

We then headed to the food stall which was just few meters away from the church and had our dinner. We had omlets, chicken, rassa omlet and what not, total bhukkads

Grabbed a couple of cans of chilled beer and went to the Panjim water front. The entire stretch of footpath was empty except we three enjoying the beer and the beautiful view in front. That was LIFE!

Day ended with a 20 Km cold ride back home and sound sleep after some chit chat and light moments.

Day 4 log and pictures coming soon..

                          Day 4

Day 4 was dedicated to show my friends some of the most visited temples by tourists and locals in Goa and couple of beaches in South Goa. A fort was also on the list.

Day started as usual, with hot water bath and tea. We had to wipe clean our bikes every morning as they used to be all wet due to moisture and dew settled on them overnight.

I first took them to Marcella, a village approximately 1 Kms away from the Cumbarjua island. This is the place where we have to come for shopping etc as our village Cumbarjua does not have shops etc.

Marcella is a place where one can find many temples located very close from one another. According to a legend, Marcella used to be a very remote village surrounded by dense forest. When Portuguese were forced to leave Goa, they started ruining Hindu temples one by one. That's why locals brought Gods from temples of different parts of Goa and hid them here at Marcella, in the forests. As time passed by, villagers didn't take the Gods back to their original places, instead built temples and started worshiping them. That's the reason so many temples situated so close to one another.

Unfortunately photography isn't allowed in most of the temples, hence sharing only a few photographs that I managed to click.

                          Mangeshi Temple

Next temple to visit was Mangeshi Temple. For this we kept riding till Banastari before joining the national highway for South Goa. A little detour before Ponda took us to Mangeshi temple.

A little information about the Mangeshi temple -
"Shri Mangesh -- also popularly known as Mangireesh or Manguesh-- is the Presiding Diety at one of Goa's most prominent temples. Shri Mangesh is the Kuladevata (family deity) of millions of Hindu GSBs around the world.

The temple of Shri Mangesh is set amidst natural beauty and pleasant surroundings. Mangeshi, a little village along Goa's Panaji-Ponda road is not only a point of pilgrimage for the followers of the Lord, it attracts hundreds of tourists from all over India and abroad."

Our bikes were an instant subject of attraction for locals and tourists where ever we went. A few photographs..

That's me in front of the temple..

One thing I would like to mention and that is, Goan people or for that matter any Konkani manus() is always very helpful and have big hearts. Even the ladies selling flowers outside the temple were generous enough to allow us to keep our gears and helmets with them and they took good care of it while we enjoyed the places freely. Same thing was at Nageshi temple. Even at Agonda beach, the shopkeeper (she was BEAUTIFUL ) happily kept our lids and jackets with her while enjoyed on the beach. Very helpful.

Anyway, moving on, after visiting the Mangesh temple, we had breakfast at a near by hotel. For the first time I had something called as chat misal And it was... well.. nice

                          Nageshi Temple

A small ride from Mangeshi temple took us to Nageshi temple, even closer to Ponda. Some information about the ancient temple -

                          "Location of the temple :

This Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is situated in Bandora village, about four kilometers to the east of Ponda. The presiding deity is Shri Nagesh Maharudra and other Deities are Shri Laxmi Narayan and Shri Ganapati. This place was known in the past as "Bandiwad". Shri Nagesh Maharudra temple is situated on Pharmagudi-Kavalem-Ponda road at about 800 meters from Pharmagudi,

                          Skand Purana:
The Saraswats established Sri Nagesh Maharudra deity at Bhandiwade. Unlike the other deities, this one found a safe abode right from the start and did not have to be shifted from place to place. This temple was unaffected by the religious persecution of Portuguese rulers in the 16th Century. This was because at that time Antruj of Ponda Mahal was not under the domain of the Portuguese power and this facilitated the migration of Saraswat deities like Shantadurga, Ganapati etc. to Antruj. It is obvious that this deity was brought by Parshurama along with the saraswat brahmins who migrated south, this is mentioned in the Sayadhri Skand Purana in the 53rd line.

                          Description of the Temple:
This temple, which faces west, has a beautiful tank in front, with a Nandi bull in black granite standing tall at its entrance. The tank water is ever flowing and crystal clear. The tank is considered to be very beautiful and therefore it is well known all over Gomantak and is considered to be a distinctive features among some of the other temples. At some distance are also visible the smaller temples of Poorvachari, Betal and Raval Nath. People visiting this temple get the divine feeling of fascination up on their entering the temple. In the "Garbhagara" the Linga is positioned with its pedestal, under the dome shaped roofing. Around the "Garbhagara" there is an area for "Pradakshana". There is a bedroom with bed stead. Facing it is the spacious square built of marble tiles. On the Southern and Northern sides the idols of Shri Laxminarayan and Shri Ganapati are installed (in seated position). The Palace of the Sunda King exsists in the neighborhood. The mandapa (an assembly hall, generally pillared, preceding the sanctum sanatorium) has a gallery on both sides that contains exquisite specimen of intricate wood carvings that narrate stories from the Hindu epics – Ramayana and Mahabharata on one side and wooden images of Astadikpal and Gandharva on the other.. The temple compound also houses a five-storeyed deepstambha."

                          Time for some photographs -

Water tank in front of the temple with crystal clear water. We could spot big fishes and a water snake in it. Really amazing!

                          Agonda Beach, South Goa

Nageshi temple was the last temple for the day and clock showed 10.45 am by the time we left the place. Now was the time for some real fun.. Goa ishtyle. Of the many beaches in Goa, I had chosen Agonda beach in Canacona taluka of South Goa district. It is a secluded beach with less tourists and more foreigners, especially those of the fairer sex in two piece beach wear.. Well... That's what my friends' demand was.. A beach with lot of beautiful chicks..

And this beach was exactly how they wanted it to be. Trust me, except the two life guards, rarely a local guy and we three were the only Indian souls on the beach. All the rest of the things were simply eye pleasing and phantashtic... Jokes apart, this is also one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever visited in my life in India. Absolutely no filth and plastic on the beach and sand, clear greenish blue sea water and very little disturbance.

To reach Agonda we had to ride through Margao city towards the south end and then take right off NH17. A little off-roading for 10 minutes and we were there. Once there, we found a safe spot for parking our bikes and since I know *a little* konkani language I managed to convince a local shopkeeper to keep our lids and jackets. As mentioned earlier, she was Beautiful..

And then? Full on pagalpanti on the beach. We had brought a tennis ball with us to play at the beach. Had awesome fun playing in the sand, in water.. lying in the sand and relaxing, then again roaming around with beautiful chicks around.. Wow.. that was something..

I was carrying Tushar's camera and didn't want it to be spoiled in the sand and water, therefore didn't use it much. Umesh carried his camera and clicked some crazy pics. Some of them are so crazy that I can't post them on xBhp().. Here are some of them..

                          LOL.. no comments please

                          Lol at my pose..

Time simply flew by and we didn't realize it was 2 pm. We hadn't had anything except the not so good Chat misal in the morning. Waise man toh bilkul nahi kar raha tha but we had to get out of water and dressed up because a fort, another beach and long journey back home was awaiting us. And with not so experienced riders I was in no mood of taking chances with late night riding.

Getting back to the shop where we had dumped our stuff, we were tired as hell. Running and playing on sand sure is some good exercise

A road runs parallel to the sea and goes to Cabo de Rama fort. I asked the locals for directions and we were on the road soon.

                          Cabe de Rama Fort

Some information bout the Fort -

"The Cabo De Rama fort located in the Canacona district of Goa is yet another famous fort in India. The fort has an interesting story as to how it derived its name. It is said that Lord Rama of the famous Hindu epic Ramayana took shelter here with his wife Sita. This was during the time when they were banished from the kingdom and were sent on a 14 year long exile in the forests of India. The Cabo De Rama fort of Goa is also known as Cape Rama and is a very old fort which has been located here since ancient times.

The Fort was first occupied by Hindu rulers who spread their empire all over India. The fort has exchanged hands between Hindu, Muslim and Portugal rulers and has seen some of the most gruesome battles fought in history. The Portugal rulers waged battles against the Hindu rulers and established their right over the fort around 1763. It was abandoned when the Portuguese left this place. Later, this fort housed a government prison till 1955 and was abandoned again. Today, this fort is a bit ruined but is a popular tourist attraction.

Cabo De Rama fort gives a stunning view of the sea from the western side. You can always visit this fort if you are looking for undisturbed peace and serenity. It is a great place to spend some time with oneself and tranquility."

                          Only a boat is missing

We met an American tourist from NY at the point. He was on a week long tour to India. He had already been to North India, namely Varanasi etc but found Goa the most beautiful place ever. Very friendly fella. Didn't take us long to strike a conversation. He said he would visit Hampi and Chennai before flying to NY. He said it was a great experience being in India and that meant a lot to us. We clicked a photograph together and I gave him some travel tips before we bid good bye to each other.

                          View from the fort

A white neck eagle, in search for food..

                          Colva Beach

There are inner smaller roads leading to Colva beach from Cabo De Rama but it was almost 4pm and we had had nothing since morning. That's why we decided to hit the national highway once again and go to Margao. We had Pav bhaji and tea at a well known restaurant before heading to Colva.

Colva is considered one of the oldest beaches in Goa. Very beautiful but usually crowded with tourists and commercialized. That's what takes the fun part out of this beach. But yeah, if you like water sports then this is the beach apart from Calangute and baga you should head to.

We enjoyed Parasailing at Colva beach and the view you get from 150 meters high in the sky can't be described in words. Blue water below and kilometers long white sand beach.. the view simply amazing.

I've got two videos showing the sport which I'll post later on. For the time being enjoy some pics from Colva beach.

Finally we left the beach by 6.15pm and started our return journey to home. I knew we will definitely have to do some night riding and I had briefed both the guys about Dos and Don'ts on highway. On the way we stopped at a place to click this pic.. Just check out the size of this star..As big as a coconut tree..

With a slow and steady ride we reached home in time. The salty water and sand was on us for the whole day and we all needed a good bath before heading out again for dinner.

We went to Marcella, where my aunt(My granny's sister's daughter) has her own restaurant, Hotel Royal Treat, for dinner. Hotel serves excellent chicken dishes and tandoori but since it was Saturday night we had to have veg food. Tummies full and a tired body after playing on beach didn't take long for us to fall fast asleep.

Day 5 - Venturing into Karnatana to visit Murudeshwar coming soon

Ketan, its amazing we did not bump into each other. I did Bangalore-Ganpatiphule-Goa-Bangalore from 6th Jan to 10th Jan! And I was in South Goa from 7th to 10th Jan. Colva, Agonda, Paloleum and the Intercontinental beach.

Great trip, and I will try and post my log soon as well!
