Thanks MG!Originally posted by MG_Biker1806 View PostDay 6 is super. Keep it coming
Thanks!... yes weight balance was an issue and there were some scary moments too! But then they were pros, just doing their daily job, so had to trust them with this.Originally posted by srisetty View PostLovely snaps there. After crossing Kharagpur, I saw a signage showing left for Mumbai, right for Delhi! Now that confused me for a while. Asked around a realized that the left takes you staright to Mumbai, bypassing whole of North India, through a highway which would cut India horizontally into two halves. But I was on GQ mission. Carried on towards Delhi.
I entered Kolkata toll by 3pm. Again left to Delhi, right to the city, with the signage showing Vidyasagar Setu, which later I discovered was New Howrah bridge. Stopped there for a drink, called my friend in Kolkata to ask if she would be free to meet for dinner. Seems that I would have to enter the city, Park Street was the location given to me.
Now I was on the Kona Expressway. The visual of the I-thought-it-to-be-Howrah excited me! Had to pay a toll of Rs.5. The toll and the as-good-as new condition of the bridge put me to doubt whether it was "the" Howrah I wanted to see. Stopped over the bridge for a quick click.

The bridge ended at the Hastings Ground, a race course, the whole area jammed as Kolkata was there to see a race or a polo match. Interesting taste this city has I thought. People from all classes were there to witness the event.
This was clicked at a red light...

Further ahead towards Park Street, the city was out, enjoying their New Year evening at a park, along which I was riding, Congress Park I guess. "City of Joy" sounded app to me.
Park Street, the Brigade Road/CP of Kolkata, "the" place to be in Kolkata, that is what I had heard, and it was. 1st of 2011 made it even better. The traffic police in this city is classy, and there were too many of them, and by too many I mean too-f**king-many! Maybe beacause of New Years. I couldn't locate a single hotel (except The Park) in the main street. Called my friend and she asked me to look around Esplanade/Sudder road for guest houses. I dunno where I was, stopped at a Victoria Guest House, Rs.400 for the room. Whatever. I hate room hunting.
Freshened up, met my friend at Park Street, had dinner at Bar-B-Que. Park Street got decent crowd and some hot chics. Another friend joined, roamed around Park Street. I wanted to see Victoria Memorial, but they advised me that this was not the right time to visit it. Fine. Bid them goodbye, and then bid goodbye to Kolkata in the morning by taking the same exit route. And neither could I see the "real" Howrah. So another Kolkata visit remains due.
Morning shot...

WTF!!
Why does everyone land up in Victoria Guest House while in Kolkata! Someone in my post on the "Kolkata" chapter commented that even he landed up in the same!
Is it because this is the only "visible" accommodation on the Park street/ well, its really a VFM, anyhow! The best things in life are realized on two wheels!
