Take bandipur-madhumalai-meenmuthy falls-sulthan bathery Route instead of bandipur-Gundlupet -sulthan bathery. The roads are pretty good.

Be careful of rampant bus drivers who occupy 1 out of 1.25 road, with no mercy along the curves.
9 days of riding.......wow..... ride safe

The entire theme of the ride is to explore Kerala right ? But in your itinerary you are not at all covering half of the must see places .
What i will suggest is book train to and fro (at least one side ) mumbai - Ernakulam .
Transport your bike to Ernakulam . You can save 6 days .From ernakulam
you can easily cover thekkady , idukki , Kumali , Munnar , athirappali , Wayanadu and board the train back to mumbai from calicut or ride down to Ernakulam . You will get more than enough to cover all the places in a ample pace to enjoy the ride .
Atleast one side you can take the train .
I suggest take a train to Ernakulam with your bike , cover the palces
and on return you can ride your way back from wayanadu - bhandipur - bangalore .

Thanks for the suggestions. Earlier I had this plan of returning via train. The thing is I dont want put the bike in train as I dont want to rely on others to take care of my bike. I dont trust the railway people. My aim is to have a good ride along with some sight seeing. I am sure I'll come back to kerala after this trip. I dont mind covering a part of it this time.

While you are at it why don't you explore the goa route, am not sure about the road condition but it does sure seem like a good idea instead of taking the same road up and down. Just a suggestion. Here is the link to google map

Saw you itinerary and i find that it would be a lot of riding and riding and riding. . . from my one and only one long trip of 1500 kms that too to and fro . .I can suggest that you would need a buffer day a bangalore for rest .. else you can take a buffer day at mysore to give a small break . . both for you and your machine .. . but if you think you can handle the endurance its fine to carry one . More over , its pretty safe to load the bike from starting point in the train . .Give it a second thought . .

Well i routinely do Pune-Kerala (kottayam) on my bikes and i should say its a breeze till Blore.
Firstly, some distances need to be corrected here. Mumbai to Kolhapur (via Pune) is only 400 (instead of 500) but kolhapur to Blore is 615 kms odd (instead of 500). So you might as well do a lil bit more on the first day and halt at Belgaum instead of Kolhapur. So you can do roughly 500 odd each day.

Infact the roads so damned good that you can do the the entire mumbai to Blore (1000km) in a day. That would save you a couple of days as well which you might use it for more sight seeing in kerala. But i would suggest you to do it only if you are a really comfy abt it and is a regular iron butt rider.

The Bangalore-Mysore route is bump infested. So dont take your eyes off the road anytime. Bumps can be right after corners too. The road surface is good thou.
Mysore to Bandipur is a good raod with occasional bad stretches and lovely route too.

Driving inside kerala would be a totally different experience. Roads would be narrow and always ride expecting a bus overtaking another bus on the blind corners

While coming back you can take the Calicut to Mangalore and then Mangalore to Mumbai highway. Expect calicut to mangalore to be traffic intensive, some rough patches near BHatkal. Also do remember that this is an undivided highway. So the chances of trucks from opp direction running your lane are higher. This route is much more scenic than the Mumbai to Blore route.

Also you can take halts at Mangalore or Goa on the way as you wish.

If exploring Gods own country is your main motto, then I suggest you ship the bike to mangalore. From there ride to kasaragod, kannur (dont miss riding on the 4 km Muzhappilangad Drive thru beach), calicut, alwaye, munnar, Kochi, (I think athirapally falls should be somewhere in between), then Allapura to Trivandrum (dont ever miss the M C Road). You could either ship the bike back from trivandrum or ride back to blr thru coimbatore & then mumbai. Me & wife just did somewhat the same route covering the entire length of kerala except munnar & athirapplay falls(damn!) but we enjoyed every bit of it. For route guidelines, our Kerala part starts from here:

Agreeing on the suggestions I had decided to Seal/Direct coach parcel the bike on Netravati exp from Alleppy to Mumbai on 5th. Had also booked air ticket from cochin to mumbai for 6th as train ticket had a long waiting list. Now it seems that the schedule is bit eased.

There are so many places in Kerala . Finding very difficult which ones to pick.
