Day 03 - Darcha to Sarchu

5 am, no sleep last night, still raining outside. Waited for the rain to stop, no toilets sooo... went to "jungle pani" in the freezing cold, near the small river. After having breakfast and all from the same dhaba we felt a little bit relaxed and fresh and so we started ahead, at 7.30 in the morning.
Just after crossing darcha, rain stopped, but it was snowing. As the climb to Baralacha started, despite being so cold out there, we somehow managed to kept on riding with regular pic stops and drinking lot of water.

            some pics

Slowly we entered in the danger zone, nothing but snow was all around us. Driving cautiously we were about to reach at the Baralacha Top and we were dead slow as there was some glassy ice on the road. Here we got our first fall . Ice was so slipery that it was hard to even keep the bike standing on the road. Somehow we managed to park our bikes aside the road on the soft snow, which was comparetively less slippery. No damages so far but we were stuck, cant move ahead, no shelter, nothing just snow and snow. We tried to find some heat from our bikes but to our surprise it was so cold that even the famous "burner" from bullet (silencer) was cool .

Few pics from where we got stuck.

No options, doing nothing and just waited for sometime and as the traffic started to appear, many trucks and jeeps came to our rescue. Due to trucks passing over the snow after sometime we were able to move from there. Still very risky and our hands were already frozen so was very hard to balance the bikes. Somehow reached at the Top, and met a couple of more bikers. One on a RX100 and another one on Thunderbird. Thunderbird guy was facing some problem after a fall in the slippery ice. We tried to help him but it was quiet a helpless situation. It was noon and roads were pretty clear and we all decided to go on and wishing luck to each other we again started off after spending a good 2 hours on the Baralacha Top. Decline was quiet easy as the road were clear, no snow, and we reached downhill safely.
We were heading towards Sarchu and I was Leading from my friend following me and then he met a land slide. Not a very serious one but he told me that he saw a big rock, football sized might be, crossed the road in front of him, and he heard some sound also, doing nothing but just speeding up the bike, he crossed that narrow place and reached me safely and stopped. We thought to go back and see what happened but were late already and wanted to reach Pang by night so we kept moving ahead. Took some snaps before sarchu

Reached Sarchu by 2.30, off the bikes, looked for a place to have lunch. found an Ex-Army dhaba, maintained by a Ex-Armymen. He treated us very well, after having lunch we felt so sleepy, remember last night , decided to stay here only for the night and the Ex-army guy was also having a tent to stay, again 50Rs per bed per Person. Headache was still there but were feeling so sleepy that nothing stopped us to sleep. After a nice nap we went for a walk around the place, Sarchu. Few pics around

Met another couple of bikers, Rahul & Rahul. Rahuldevnath is one of them, yes the guy "kanyakumari to kashmir", our fellow xbhpian. Soon we were friends and decided to leave together in the morning for Leh. For the night the Ex-Armymen was all prepared for us, he arranged a small fire outside the tent and it felt really nice to sit under the clear sky alongside a small fire in a freezing cold and chit chatting with friends and the locals. Tashi was the guys name, the Armymen.
Here is the guy Tashi (extreme right)

Tashi was a Tanker, soon Rum bottles were out, Contessa brand, and few of us decided to stay away from it, like me and Rahul. Others enjoyed the rum to the fullest with loads of talks and everything. It takes only a peg to make friends, non-drinkers will not understand . Food was great, after dinner all went to sleep and guess what, Tashi was still drinking .

Thanks for reading, more logs and pics coming soon......
