  • My first small solo ride

The Sunday started with me waking up at 10 am from my bed, tilting here ad there i woke up, prepared my tea and breakfast watched the clock and put on the idiot box watching the news. Suddenly i realized something is missing as i was bored a lot with my corporate life and wanted a relaxing time. Thought of going for a short ride to Lavasa so took bath and left home packed in all gears at 11.30 am. Hitted the highway suddenly made up my mind to go to panchgini for lunch (Yeah you all can say i am crazy to do things at this age). Well post my crash in December where i fractured my wrist i just was having hardly 2 group rides till Kashid ( a beach in Maharashtra) and back. Took a break before kambatki ghat for some sugar cane juice refreshment and started the ghat and reached the Mahabaleshwar junction. Started riding towards panchgini with roads surrounded by lush beautiful greenery from both sides. Reached prasarni ghat and this was the first time i was riding solo in ghat and i was pleased with the performance of my R15 in those ghats, the tyres were gripper more than i expected and the confidence they gave was awesome. Reached at a hotel near panchgini bus stand and took a awesome chicken thali. After finishing lunch checked my watch and saw still i have lot of day time in my hand so thought of going ahead and try some good strawberry cream so passed Mapro Garden and went ahead and had it till my soul was satisfied. Started riding back with lot of traffic jam till panchgini city, and then the prasarni ghat welcomed me back with a good drizzle of rains. Took a halt and changed my Cramster MX3 Gloves to DSG Primal But i was also in a dilemma how would the tyres perform under wet conditions and to my surprise they handled beautifully in spite of good amount of drizzles. Reached down the ghat took a chai at a road stall and started riding back. Crossed khambatki tunnel and then there was a huge turn which made me tempting for taking a corner in a good speed but i suddenly realized the cross wing was throwing me and my bike on the right side so slowed down and rode further. Crossed Kat raj Tunnel and reached Pune finally.

It was a awesome ride and as all of the Xbhpian say solo ride is addictive and they are true as i loved it as you are on your own will.

    Total kilometers - 265 kms
Total Fuel - Approx 8 liters
    Total Happiness - Priceless

Shrinathji, even though there are no pictures,it is a detailed log in short.Very nicely written log considering your first solo ride.

          D.I.Y-RTR180 brake fluid replacing/brake bleeding
          D.I.Y-RTR180 brake pad replacing/cleaning

Good stuff man! Nice to see you have fun with the bike. Had the new tyres broken in before the ride?

@ sau007007 - Dont keep on thinking man, just go ahead and do it.

@ tibby - The tyres were changed and all i can say thanks to MRF people for doing it and they never performed well in rains and the slopes. I dont care about age as i still am young at heart.

@ captainsokhi - ya first ride gave me different experiences and makes you desperate for more. By the way your busa is too sexy

                  @ satyen - thanks dude.

                    Nice looong trip log
                    Where are the pics man?

First glance at the strawberry shake pic, it look to me like a white shirts stained with blood.
Anyone else got this look at first glance or I am getting psychic?

I too feel the same and in fact highlighted this point sometime back.

BTW, if you look closely there is one phrase "whatever it maybe".

From content management prospective, seriously we need separate section for weekend getaways.

Good choice, Shrinath. Ghat sections have unstable wind patterns - crosswinds that change directions in a jiffy, updrafts and downdrafts etc. From my experience of motoring/biking in Indian mountains, the approach to and descend from the passes are most fraught with dicey conditions, unless you are driving in Italy/France/South Africa where road and traffic conditions are much more conducive to sharp banking turns. On Khambatki, leaned over, tyres at the limit of adhesion (and your R15 has really skinny ones...), it takes one small bump/ripple/pothole/crosswind to throw the bike out of line and, if you are lucky, into the hill side or if not, into the valley.

I appreciate your sensible judgement; this will stand you in good stead for years of happy biking.

Forgive me if I sound like I am pontificating, but I suppose that is the curse of age couple with experience

@ icemang - yes sir the r15 has skinny tyres but it holds well when you are in straight line with cross winds flowing and if you crouch its better in such situations.

good one mate. one of the basic facts of riding is to ride with ur instincts. i do that i am happy to be alive without any injuries and am more happy that i will be more able to do thousands of miles. which date did u go for the trip?
