@ Sachin you scare crow dont scare him. Fazer had a prob with the carb. Otherwise it would have easily gone up. Remember Naki-La and Fotu-La. Fazer was zooming past and that too with luggage.
@ Sumit - Even if u face any issue mid way you can remove the filter and climb. Nothing to worry as such. It is very much manageable.

Deepan

Deepan, We know why it was zooming past us and in top notch after the issues. My till date riding experience says, "Fazer is a good touring machine."

Day 8 - Drass to Lamayuru
Day 8 - Drass to Lamayuru
4th June'11
Distance Covered - 175kms
Each day is a different road, each day is a new journey and each day's experience shift you to different levels. We were about to witness history which is hard to explain in words, a visit to Kargil War Memorial.
We woke up to a very cold morning, after all we were sleeping in the second coldest inhabited place in the world and to make matters worse there is no hot water provided to get fresh. Getting freshen up was a real task here onwards as climate henceforth was very cold.
Best we could eat before starting our ride was boiled eggs to feel warm from inside. As usual we were late to start, as late as 9AM, Here Puneet commented before starting, "Xbhp ka G2G hota toh subah 6 baje uth jaate hai aur yahaan 9 baje tak koi uthtah nahi" All we could reply is "Kya karen thandi bahut hai"
Our plan for today was to first see Kargil War Memorial on the way and pray for soldiers who fought for us & respect them. End of the day we had planned to reach Lamayuru and halt for the day.
As soon as you enter the gates of the War memorial, you would feel as if you are entering a different world. A world of peace, silence and liberty. A long walk on the straight pavement of Vijay Path with the War memorial in front and we could feel a sense of patriotism already flowing through our veins.
Some very beautifully written lines from our holy books are displayed here. Read the lines and all you can think of are the Amar Jawaans who sacrificed their lives for us.
Bible says
"I will gladly offer you a sacrifice, Oh Lord!
I will give you thanks, beacause you are good
You have rescued me from All my Troubles,
And I have seen my enemies defeated"
Koran says
"Think not of those who are slain in Allah's way as Dead.
May they live, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord!
The Rejoice in the bounty provided by Allah and with regard to those left behind,
who have not joined them (in their bliss)
The martyr's glory in the fact that in them is no fear, Nor they have cause to have grieve"
Bhagwat Gita says
"Cowards die many times before their death, The valiant never taste death but once"
Guru Gobind Singh ji says
"Grant me, Oh Lord,
This boon that I may not faulter in doing good,
That I may entertain no fear of the enemy,
When engaged with him in battle,
And, that I may always be sure of my victory
And when the last moment of my life shall arrive,
May I die in the thick of the battle"
We moved ahead and saw a garland of flowers placed beneath OP Vijay and names encarved of all the jawaans who lost their lives during this war.
A salute to all these brave soldiers and we were then accompanied by 2 army officials who explained us everything about the war. Army officials were really very friendly and they had still so much pain still left as a result of what had happened in Kargil.
The war had bruised their lives forever. They cannot tell the story or forget it - it's etched in the memories of their lives forever. We saw the Tololing mountain where the war had started - Pakistani insurgents creeped down the mountain and wanted to bomb the highway.
We bought Drass War memorial T shirts and shaked hands with army officials before we left.
A walk back on Vijay Path and Aryan Chaudhary lit a smoke on the way which was definitely not appreciated by any one of us. We told him to stop smoking right away as it was not the place where should be enjoying your smoke. Aryan Dude, definitely very wrong on your part.
Nevertheless, after a very rich and memorable experience from Kargil War memorial we moved on.
Once we crossed Kargil Village, road was full of dust and sharp stones lying everywhere. We stopped at regular intervals to re gain energy and click pictures. One such place where we stopped was so beautiful because of the incredible aura created by blue skies with contrasting brown mountains that we spend more than 30 minutes clicking photos here.
We reached Mulbekh by afternoon where we finally stopped near Chamba statue for lunch. Well, a much needed lunch was ate and we moved on.
We had 2 passes on our way before we reached Lamayuru. Namik La which is at 12198 feet & Fotu La which is at a height of 13479 feet. Fotu La is also the Highest Point in the Srinagar Leh Road.
Namik La was relatively easier for riding and the roads were surprisingly very smooth and we all enjoyed the curves and the hair pins. After Namik La it was Fotu la which we crossed by late afternoon.
Again the roads were in descent shape and once you pass Fotu La the roads are truly amazing to ride. You can see down hill sections of the road how beautifully they were coiled, unfortunately we did not stop here to takes photos as we were enjoying the ride now after lot of off roading done in morning.
After Fotu La pass we were some how split into group of 2 with Deepan and Puneet riding in front and Aryan & I riding behind them at some distance. Because of the beautiful coils in the road we could actually see Deepan and Puneet riding on the other side of the mounatin. It was a fantastic sight which is still fresh in my mind.
We finally halted in a hotel called Moonland in Lamayuru by around 6 PM. Remainder of the day was spent enjoying the pleasant weather in Lamayuru with some really nice hospitality and food available.
Evening spend in Lamayuru still rings bells in my mind as it refreshes memories of a monastery present in a deserted place. This was yet another place that touched me deeply and I have very good memories from this place.
Next stop tomorrow is a much awaited dream come true for every biker!!!Last edited by Sachinnair; 10-30-2011, 06:31 PM.

Edited your highnessOriginally posted by xstunter View PostSachin saar, the name of the hotel in Lamayuru is Hotel Moonland. It is the first hotel on the right hand side while decending towards Lamayuru from Kargil end.

It seems that you returned through lahoul - Kullu route. You get to see many beautifull places en route, like Rohtang, Chandertal, Nagar, Manali, Manikaran etc...Originally posted by Sachinnair View PostYes, Since Kunzum La pass was not open we saw Manali - Kullu and then went to see Lahaul and returned. Missed Spiti though which is another reason to go back to the mountains
BTW sometime in June, I saw 6-7 guys fully geared just few km's before Kiratpur. Which is again few Km's before Chandigarh. I talked to one of them who was eating at a Dhaba where we stopped for the lunch. He told me that they are from Orissa and they had successfully completed the Leh ride on bike and now going back to Delhi. One of the guys had some problems with his bike and he was asking me for a mechanic. Wonder if they belong to Xbhp

Naggar is a beautiful place located between Kullu and Manali. You reach there when you go via bypass from Manali or Kullu.Originally posted by Sachinnair View PostI dont know about other places mentioned like Nagar, Manikaran.
Manikaran is 35 Km from Kullu and it has a hot water spring. People claim that many of skin and bone deseases can be cured by taking a bath here.
You can also find it on google maps.
