Guess people have to do a lot of counting. People would go to Leh this time come back and share their experiences still we would be counting for this one.

                    • Day 11 - Aww... Struck Pangong Tso

                      Distance Covered: 170kms

Pangong Tso Lake is the most beautiful lake I have seen till date. No words, pictures can do justice to the beauty of this lake. The place is so quite and peaceful you can hear water lapping with the low sounds by the shore. Truly an unforgettable experience.

Today's plan was to ride from Leh to Pangong Lake (170kms) and halt for the night in a tent at Pangong Lake.Today's ride was full of surprising turn of events which none of us had thought when we had planned the trip. Quarrel, bike breakdown, difficult decisions, responsibilty and much more was actually in store for us today!
We left from Leh at around 10am and started riding on Leh - Manali highway for the first time in the entire trip. We rode till we reached Karu where we were stopped for permit check since Pangong Tso is a restricted area. Road were in good condition and journey was fast paced, due to this we reached Karu in less than an hour.
After crossing Karu we reached Shakti and halted there for breakfast (Maggi). Once we crossed Shakti, a few kilometres thereafter the actual real ascent for Chang La starts. Here on things started going wrong for us!

Firstly on the way we met 2 couples whom we met at Leh where we stayed and interacted with. They said they met a Bullet guy on the way now who was returning as he broke his clutch lever as a result of a fall. Bullet rider had informed them not to ride ahead as it was snowing hevaily and roads were in real bad shape. The couple's parked their bikes in the post and went by tempo traveller to Pangong to be on the safer side. We spoke to a few people coming in car from the other side to check on the road and weather condition. Caution was the word so we took that chance and moved on.
Aryan's bike stalled again unfortunately for us and was unable to ride at the same pace as us. His bike was riding at 10 kmph I believe, when he finally stopped to rectify the problem. Last time removing air filter helped him climb Khardung La pass and this time as a last resort again he removed his air filter to ensure his bike climbs.
While fixing the bike his lid fell from the bike and viser had come out from one side. At that time he was with Deepan alone and we (Puneet & I) were waiting ahead for them to join. Aryan could not fix his viser so Deepan was helping him do that. But Aryan failed to follow the instructions which Deepan gave and they had a fight over the lid.
Finally both of them came ahead where we were waiting. Deepan was furious for the events that had happened with Aryan sometime back. Aryan was also not cooperating and to fix the viser he was almost about to punch it. Not the right way to do it
I had to step in and calm down both of them, fixed his viser and we continued the ride. Deepan and Puneet went ahead and I was riding at the slow pace of 10 kmph with Aryan. The ascend had just started and his bike even without the air filter this time was not at all pulling and to add to that Aryan was trying to rev her hard.
I was screaming on top of voice in my lid to Aryan, "Stop the Bike or your engine will cease" but little did he listen to me and was still trying to ride the bike which was almost on the verge of dying now. I shouted again, Aryan stop the bike right now! and finally he stopped Thank God!!
There was nothing we could do to get his bike back in riding shape. I said to Aryan, "Dude we have just started the ascent and your bike is no position to reach till Chang La. Let's park your bike down in Zingral army post and you come pillion with me" He agreed.

We rode down hill again and reached Zingral army post where cooperative army officials allowed Aryan to park his bike in their campus. Aryan promised to return to collect his bike and we were given dry fruits to eat and hot tea to drink. Aryan kept his luggage with the army officials and we made a move towards Chang La this time on one bike with pillion and my luggage.
I climbed Khardung La pass on my bike easily on 2nd gear (lowest) - 3rd gear however now both of us ( Me & my bike ) had a big task in front of us. Task of successfully riding the steepest and toughest mountain pass one can encounter in Ladakh, 'The Mighty Chang La'
Road conditions started to deteriorate as we began the climb and the steepness increased a lot, making the affair of reaching the summit of Chang La more challenging and memorable. No wonder it is called "The Might Chang La"
I had to go down to 1st gear and ride at steady slow speed to climb the pass and during this entire course I was feeling the disadvantages of pillion sitting behind. During water crossings Aryan used to get down from the bike and meet me at the other end. Some how some way, I managed to reach Chang La with Aryan with great difficulty. We clicked a few photos here and met Deepan and Puneet who had reached Chang La pass long time before we did.

Finally we rode together from there onwards, only difference being rather than 4 there were 3 bikes. Descent from Chang La, road was in bad condition and we saw snow fall while descending and it was freezing cold temperature that we could feel in our hands, fingers, in fact entire body was cold as there is no blood. I was constantly excerising me fingers during the descent but the cold was so unbearable and only escape was to complete the Chang La descent.

Deepan's Solution to Keeping his Hands warm

We managed, survived somehow and post Chang La, roads have superbly laid tarmac coupled with beautiful scenery that awaited us. A sight for any nature lover, for most part that followed till we reached Pangong had fantastically laid tarmac and views however riding hard is not the best thing to do as there are water passages built in middle of the road, which is 8-10 feet long depression in the middle of the road without any warnings. Although the color of cemented passage is visible from a short distance.

As you come to close to Pangong, you are greeted by a terrific first view of the lake which will take your excitement to another level. As we approached the lake, the sheer size of the lake becomes more apparent as you finally reach its shore. What a sight! It felt as if this was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen with my eyes!!! The weather was inviting, cold and all I good see in Blue waters and dark brown accent mountains till my eyes could see. We got fresh and were in for a such lovely treat to watch nature at its best.
Puneet clicked pictures here with lot of passion and this place is a truly a dream place for any photographer. We clicked a lot of pictures and finally Aryan was about to leave us to attend to his bike back. We had to ride to Pang tomorrow so it was important that he left today itself and get his bike in shape before we start our ride tomorrow.
Aryan was given lift this time by a group of friends in Scorpio and couple of bullets riding back. He halted at Leh and we were suppose to meet at Karu the next day as per our discussion with him.

Our Accomodation with An Awesome View,Puneet was watching Movies on Deepans Laptop with view of the lake infront of him.
