@ambar: Thanks for the priceless info, I am looking for snow capped peaks and ultra low temperatures . Dont you reckon Hatu will provide more of that?

What time are you leaving? If my adrenaline pumps its usual levels, I might get better by tonight. Just in case... do let me know of the departure time and place.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

I will leave from my place at 4.45 AM odd. I will be going via Jhandewalan to pick up a video camera from a TV office from my friend and then heading to Piragarhi Chowk. Final timing etc will be decided by today evening.

Ambala-Zirakpur section is 4 lane now.

I cover this stretch in 20 mins on a Zma.
So with a SBK it should be like 10 minutes

@akshay: Actually we wont be speeding up on the good stretches, else the riders on 'lesser' bikes will abandon us (read R15 and Comet) on the curves later on .

Yeah they would be having an advantage over the mighty ONE on bad roads.

Just got an update from a GoldWing rider. he had recently been to Shimla and beyond on his bike and he says the roads are pretty fine. So i guess the R1s should do Ok as well.

Any precautions that you're taking for the bikes (READ : The Ones') as regards the low temps on this ride..?

That's the closest you'll get to your coveted 0 degC this time of the year. Take it or leave it.

None needed till the temp drops substantially below zero. The coolant has anti-freeze, fuel injection allied with 12+:1 compression ratio ensures easy starts and black ice needs something like 5 below to actually form and stay. So we are safe. Only possible weak link: the batteries. They usually underperform when cold but again it will not be THAT cold.

And then as Ken says, even the One is a bike, not an aircraft. And downhill starts dont even need the initial push.
