            Day 4 conclusion

After checking into our room we changed into fresh clothes, etc. and decided to go to the main market (road) of Kaza. As both of us were quite tired we not in favour of walking. I was not keen on taking my bike as it draws undue attention and he refuesed to ride his bike. He did offered me his bike and was keen on riding pillion. But he's got an old bullet, gears and brakes are on the reverse as compared to a normal bike and as I do not have any prior experience of riding such a vehicle, I refused and tried convincing him again. But all this failed and in the end we both ended up walking a fair distance till the market/ mall road. Went to German Bakery, had some stuff, quality was 'ok' prices were not. Moved around, decided to have some 'momos' but could find only one place that will serve 'chicken momos'. Aparently, they make everthing fresh and he took almost an hour. 'Momos' were pathetic, filled with some oil, steamed and barely had any chicken filing inside, costing 150 quid.

Anyone and I actually mean anyone wanna have awesomest chicken momos, please get in touch, I will take you some place near my house and I will foot the bill if you dislike them

After discarding those aweful momos and paying our bill we decided to move back to our Hotel. It was already 9:45- 10:00 p.m. and the market place was deserted, except few shops.

We were discussing about 'Day 5'. While having our lunch, earlier in the day in Tabo, we did enquire about Chandrataal and everyone said that the route is blocked due to some landslide. One can however trek the last 6- 7 Kms and reach Chandrtaal. Mr. X was beginning to loose interest in Chandrataal since then. He was not in favour of trekking at all. So while trekking back to our hotel () I again brought up this topic and suggested that lets cross Kunzum la pass, reach Batal and ask the shed owner about chandratal and then decide. As I was following Abhishek's advice of walking and talking at an altitude of 12,500 ft. (damn him! ) I started gasping/ panting badly for breath. I stopped, I could actually hear my lungs working overtime, trying desperately to get in some oxygen, but nothing seems to be working. I was trying my best not to panic and aggrevate the entire situation. After 5 odd minutes we started walking again, this time slowly, back to the hotel. As soon as I reached our hotel, I quite conveniently placed myself on one of the garden chairs. Mr. X decided to sleep and proceeded towards our room. I signaled one of the hotel guys to go along with Mr. X and get me some Rum as I wasn't feeling sleepy. Aparently the hotel owner was also around and joined me and started enquiring about my bike, which was covered. I politely answered most of his questions and promised him to answer some more, after he's actually seen my bike next morning.

This guy was also a biker and we discussed various things. Upon my complaining that the bike rental shops in KB (Delhi) were demanding 1 lac INR as deposit and Rs. 500 as rental charge from Indians, but would waive off/ reduce the deposit for a foreigner, he said thats because us Indians are not as passionate, dedicated, etc., towards biking as foreigners. As I was still unconvinced (duh; obviously!), he cited one example. He said last year (2010), couple of guys (like Mr. X & me ) were staying in his hotel. They were on rented bullets and were from Delhi. The day they were supposed to leave Kaza, one bullet's engine was not firing up and eventually they left both their bikes and somehow fled to Delhi. He said he wasn't in Kaza, else he (being a bulletier) would have definitely helped. He, upon reaching back to his hotel in Kaza, called up his friends in Delhi (he had some, who were in the same business of renting bikes in KB) and told them of the situation and asked them to try and find out the shop they belonged to. After locating the shop, he told it's owner to send few mechanics to his hotel and make arrangements to take these bikes back to Delhi. But nobody turned up and he locked them in the hotel lobby, locked the entire hotel (for winters were setting in). He concluded by saying how one day in 2011, two people did arrive from Delhi and actually spent 10 minutes on both the bikes (combined), started them and eventually took them back to Delhi. So he said that a foreigner would have never left his bike over there.

Upon asking about chandrataal, he also said that the route is blocked, due to some overflowing 'nulluh'/ landslides. He even mentioned that the govt. has dug some pits enroute to Chandrataal as many tourists were taking their vehicles to the lake and the lake was getting polluted. He said even if the route was open, it would be quite difficult (not impossible) to maneuver bikes around those pits. Lastly he said that from tomorrow morning onwards a bulldozer would be working hard to clear the route. This brought a smile on my face and eventually I also decided to catch up some sleep. Tomorrow's gonna be another day!

            End of day 4.

Guys I know that many are keenly following this blog and I deeply/ thoroughly appreciate you patience. Day 5 pictures are still being uploaded and the progress is slow, it says 36% complete as of now. I do not think that I will be able to proceed with Day 5 today. I promise to complete day 5 this weekend. It feels great to have so many people following the journey through my eyes and I deeply appreciate the same.
            Ride safe!
