Congrats Manoj! Great achievement
@antz.bin
Well so it seems that Pune - Delhi can be possible in a single day (on bike). I never thought of the route mentioned by antz.bin. The only route I knew was via Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Rajasthan,.....Delhi. which will take 2days for sure. Thanks antz.

No Satyen, its just a pure discussion, you see how much facts I'm trying to cover. Its not an argument at all; I'm only trying to get the facts. If it can be done in two days, I'm game for it. Last time I missed out just because I would only get 1 day to spend in Delhi which is highly insufficient.
Another factor is when I'd to come back from RJ, I skipped Delhi from Jaipur for this reason. People said its not possible in 2 days & it takes about 4 days (then 4 days, I didn't even think I could could Mumbai-Chennai in one day).
I'm only trying to find out an answer as how 2 days is sufficient. 3 days yes, quite possible...
1. Chennai - Mumbai
2. Mumbai - Udaipur
3. Udaipur - Delhi
As you can see only day 1 is tough, day 2 & 3 are quite possible with sufficient breaks & sleep. For its would be...
1. Chennai - Udaipur (after which the person would become almost dead without sleep)
Regarding Melgaon-Gwalior route, that has neen rated worst & slowest route. Since he said it can be done in that route, I'm interested to get accurate details based on facts. That's all...no Kolaveri or Kollaiveri
See its due that route of Melgaon & Gwalior; everyone who goes through that route complains the road conditions. Let me try to dig out some pics & post here. May be you'll understand why I keep asking questions repeatedly.has got little to do with the sentiments of why this chap wrote a logLast edited by aargee; 03-30-2012, 04:15 PM.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

I cannot give you any more facts than this. I know what route I took. I know how I rode. I know how much I stopped. And I have already given all the facts. I was seen off by [email protected]. I met people on the way. I was informing 2 xBHPians about my whereabouts whenever I stopped. I didn't go to Gwalior because I wasn't going to Delhi. Or else maybe I would have even made it that night. The only reason I halted in Jhansi was because roads between Jhansi and Orai (the next town) were not in the best of condition (as told to me by a trucker). And the sun was setting on me as it was winter. Also, I didn't want to ride 2 nights in a row even though I physically could have.Originally posted by aargee View PostNo Satyen, its just a pure discussion, you see how much facts I'm trying to cover. My point was, Chennai - Mumbai - Delhi is a good 200km more than Chennai - Pune - Delhi using the route I described.
What you gain using this route:
You don't get stuck in traffic jams inside Mumbai which eat up a LOT of time.
You don't get stuck in ever so often traffic jams on NH8.
^^ These delays will eventually lead you to break the journey at Udaipur / Jaipur depending on where you decide to call it a day.
What you lose using this route:
450odd km is 2-lane only roads. But 100odd km on NH8 is also 2-lane (Baroda - Ahmedabad ?)
Discipline among fellow road users. (which anyways lacks all over India)
Both routes are dangerous. HVKumar probably didn't recommend this one because you were going by bike AND this route passes through the erstwhile Dacoit affected now Naxalite affected areas. Those 450km of 2-lane roads are not safe after dark. Even Paan Singh Tomar's hometown "Morena" falls en route. BUT NH3 remains free of traffic primarily due to such a reputation.
But NH8 has the reputation of one of the highest no. of accident deaths amongst all NHs in the country. So it is all the same.
About the P220 doing 389 km in a tank, it will even do 480-500 with ease. I wasn't even hitting reserve (which itself is 3.2 liters) when I was filling up. As I already mentioned, the tank is humongous. There is no fuel pump which will overheat and burn if I run on low fuel. And I have, on many occasions filled ~20 liters of fuel at reputed bunks like Shell and Company owned ones even though the P220 DTSi F brochure says that the tank capacity is just 15 liters. And above all, the bike returns anywhere between 37-42kmpl when I ride at my 'pace'. The FE that day had dropped to 32-34 on that particular day and thats how I knew that there was an issue with the bike.
You can dig out as many photos you want, but it still won't change the fact that the road is perfectly rideable and its condition is head and shoulders above whatever the folks down south in Karnataka and Kerala call as National Highways.
Photos cannot go back in time and change what has happened.
It won't change the fact that there is a major town every 100km for any supplies you might need.
It also won't change the fact that there are at least 2 other smaller settlements between each of those towns(which are 100km apart) where you can take rest, take a nap, have a snack and leave as fast as possible.
About doing this in 2 days is not humanly possible, it all depends upon your capacity and your stamina. I know I can do it. You probably think you cannot. If you ask Biru(oist), he will probably claim that he can do it within 36 hours (by avoiding the night halt). So it is a personal difference. This is what I originally meant by
I cannot do any more OTs in this poor guy's thread. Please create another thread if you wish to discuss it at length any further.Originally posted by antz.bin View PostDelhi-Chennai shouldn't take 5 days. It can be easily done in 3ish days. 2 if you are in a hurry
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
