                            DAY 3 {The real journey begins}

Balipara to bhalukpong took us almost 1.5 hrs for 20 kms & that became the norm for the days to come

Bhalukpong is a small town beside the very beautiful Kameng river. There is a lot to explore and one can easily spend 2-3 days in Bhalukpong spending time at the two national parks which are around, also one can do rafting, angling.
Also Bhalukpong is home to a variety of orchids but like always since our main intention is to ride so we moved ahead. Being the entry point of Arunachal one needs to stop and show the permits here. The place is indeed very beautiful with deep forests on both side and green azure waters meandering across you.
The first 20 kms from Bhalukpong is in very bad shape and took close to 2hours.
We met some senior BRO guys on way and they explained why the state of road is like this from a very long time.
Govt is not able to act properly because of the protests from ULFA and others. Roads from hereon were pretty decent and runs all the way through deep forests, you could feel and smell the forest around. We took a couple of stops before reaching Tenga a very huge army base.
The plan for the day was to reach Tawang but after recalculating we decided that we won’t be able to make it as we need to cross Sela Pass at night and without knowing the current situation of the pass it’s quite risky to try it at night and also there is no place to stay before Sela.
Now that the destination for the night changed to Dirang which was 70km away we decided to take a longish break on the river side, we even contemplated of putting our tent there as the site was a perfect campers delight but with the possibility of rain we decided to take the safer bet. Bomdila is at 2200metre above sea level and an all uphill hair pin ride from Tenga. The chill factor increased and soon we were engulfed in heavy fog with almost zero visibility. Reached Bomdila by 4 and with only 30mins of daylight left and rain just round the corner we called it a day.

                            Balipara stay :

tawang 318 kms -- took us 3 days just to reach

just after bhalukpong check post & town -- entry into arunachal

                            getting down

                            Some random stretch in jungle

The place where the BRO officer guided us

Lo & behold as we emerged from the jungle the smooth tarmac greeted us -- sadly it lasted for all of 7 kms long

quite similar to checkpost just before Rampur in himachal

                            The magnificent view

Trying out making a video --came out excellent

River at tenga where we planned initially to set up tent:

                            day coming to an end:

Turning point ahead of Bomdila where we decided to stay back

Our stay -- good quality though costly

                            Night view of Bomdila town
