The excitement to ride again on NH17 was building up. We decided to leave as early as 4am on Saturday so that we could reach Marleshwar as early as possible. Everything went as planned and all three of us met at Koparkhairne at around 5:30AM. After a bit of goof-up on the NH4-NH17 junction we were back on track. It was still dark when we hit NH17. Bad roads and slight drizzle coupled with oncoming traffic with there HIGH BEAMS was making it difficult to maintain a good pace. To add to the misery we had bugs splashing our faces and soon Rohan had a sore left eye. We were riding almost blind. After some good 15-20 minutes of struggle we saw daylight, which indeed was a huge relief. Stopped at a roadside dhaba after crossing Vadhkal and refreshed ourselves with hot chai and biscuits. After a quick break we carried ahead and with an aim to reach Marleshwar by max 2PM.
Following ride was fantastic with super smooth tarmac. As it was the second time in span of one month that we were riding on NH17 both Rohan and myself were finding ourselves quite comfortable overtaking the odd traffic that we found on the stretch. Initially Neeteesh was finding it a bit difficult but later on all three of us were maintaining a good pace and were on schedule.
It was around 8:30-9:00 AM and we were quite hungry. Stopped at hotel Neelkamal en-route Mahad. Treated us with some garma garam missal and chai. This was the same restaurant where we had stopped during our last Konkan ride.
Some pics from the restaurant surroundings

Resting!!!

We were busy enjoying our missal when a FZ1 followed by a KTM Duke and R1 zoomed past us. With little hope of catching them ahead we finished our breakfast and carried ahead.
Geared up and ready to move!!!

Just before Kashedi ghat saw this beautiful stretch with bright yellow flowers by roadside. Just couldn’t resist ourselves and here was our first Photography break of the ride. Let the pics do rest of the talking.
Super smooth tarmac with super sexy surroundings!!!

Ek pose to banta hi hai boss!!!

Rohan Caught in action!!!

That was the max I could lift myself after several retakes

After this short break we carried forward. Rohan being a cornering freak zoomed ahead to take those corners. Myself with Neetesh not at all confident in cornering rode cautiously to the top of Kashedi.

Superb Kashedi

After Kashedi we crossed Parshuram Ghat and took a quick Kokam Sharbat break at a small dhaba near Parshuram temple. This place has a splendid view of backwaters of some dam (not sure which one
) and Konkan Railways running parallel to it.
Thanda Thanda Kokam Sharbat!!

I decided to just have a thanda Pepsi!!

Not quite sure what I was trying to explain…

Just sit and relax!!!

After this quick break we decided ride non-stop till we reach the exit from NH17 to Devrukh. We were cruising at good a speed that’s from nowhere we spotted the black R1 and FZ1. They were probably taking a break at a roadside restaurant. Would have loved to stop by and meet those people and take some pics of those beautiful babes. But unfortunately Rohan had gone ahead and we did not want to lose time hence we carried forward.
They did see us pass by and waved their hands us. We obliged and waved back in return.
That’s what I am proud of. Being a part of a community. Sharing Brotherhood!!!
It doesn’t matter who you are, what bike you ride. What matters is that You share the passion for touring on two wheels!!!
We cruised further maintaining decent pace throughout. Next stop was at place where we took a left turn to exit NH17. Devrukh was 18kms and Maral was some 20 odd kms from devrukh. This patch was quite rough with bad roads and some times no roads at all. That’s when this conversation happened.
Rohan: Yaar lagta hai apan ne koi shot cut liya hai. Obviously ye road pe ST busses nahi ja sakte…
Me: Haa yaar… chal aage jaake dekhte hai.
Just about 10 minutes after this conversation we saw a red ST bus standing in front of us. Fortunately there was a little space from where we could squeeze ourselves. We are still not sure what these people would do if a normal four-wheeler and ST bus would come head on and there’s no space to move!!!
We continued on our way to Devrukh when we reached this beautiful place covered with complete greenery. Some pics…
Neeteesh’s ZMR striking a pose!!

Rohan’s Fazer aka Leo Pandey!!!

Lush greenery after the monsoons…

We then carried ahead and reached Rohan’s place by 4pm. We had quite a tough time finding out his place, as he himself was not sure since he was visiting it 1st time too. It was quite far from the main road. There was gravel all around and it seemed that we were riding in the middle of a forest. Whatever!!! We reached home and here we were completely geared up with our rides, the centre of attraction for all the village people. I myself quite enjoyed all the attention that I was getting. :P
Freshened up had lunch called up our homes and left for Marleshwar Temple. We were already warned that we were not supposed to go near the waterfalls, as the force of the falls was quite high and just a day before two young guys had drowned. So with a bit of disappointment we went ahead to take darshan of Lord Marleshwar. Rohan’s cousin brother accompanied us to the temple.
It was some 15kms ride back to the temple on those same gravel roads. 4-5kms of roads before the temple are in pretty good condition and the place is quite serene. Riding in between huge mountains covered with dense forests is such a different experience. Reached the base of the temple and here we saw we had some 100-150 steps to climb before we reach the cave temple. Dead tired with the thought of climbing those steps we carried ahead.
Temple is inside a cave which has a small rock cut door entry to enter the cave. It is said that there are a lot of cobras and other snakes around the cave. But due to rains we were not able to spot any. After darshan, captured the surrounding beauty and famous Marleshwar waterfalls through our lenses. Here are the results…

Aur Thoda Posegiri:

Way to the base of the waterfalls!! Unfortunately it was closed!!!

As per initial plan we were supposed to stay back at Rohan’s place and leave for ganpatipule on the next day. Rohan came up with the idea that we ride to Ganpatipule on the same day and stay there so that we can take darshan without any hassles – (Courtesy – Avinash – Since we had the experience of endurance riding with heavy rains and roads as bad as Lanja – Which gave us the confidence- Bwahahaha – Thanx Avu <3 ). We decided to go ahead with this plan. We somehow convinced Rohan’s brother and we left Maral at 7pm.
Some beautiful pics from Maral Village captured thru Neeteesh’s lens!!!

We had some good 90-100kms to cover before we reached ganpatipule. The route was to take NH204 (that’s supposedly Kolhapur-Ratnagiri Highway), which joins NH17 near Pali. We cruised ahead and reached Nivli Phata from where we were asked to take a left turn to reach Ganpatipule which was still 30kms away. Had our dinner at a roadside dhaba. We reached Ganpatipule by about 10pm. We settled ourselves at a local lodge for Rs 400 for a night (Steal eh !!).
So it was end to quite an exciting day where we covered close to 500kms. Schedule for next day was ganpatipule darshan and riding back home.
Cheers,

Some really nice pix.. Well narrated..
Just a piece of advice & request..
Don't ride on a place like Kashedi, without gears & especially, the HELMET
. The pic can be encouraging to some..
Some time back, xbhp used to take down pix of riding without helmet though.!
Nevertheless, enjoyed reading the log with lovely pictures. & bring on the rest soon..

The Tourer section on xBHP is the most popular section on the forum. Your's may have been a nice ride and everything but posting pics in which someone is riding without a helmet is just not acceptable. You should realise that the pic can be encouraging to some. It sends out a wrong message that xBHP tolerates riding without helmets.
That is a ghat and quite a dangerous one. Even for the sake of posing, a fully geared rider is much more appreciated.
There was a time when xBHP would take down pics which had lidless riders. Sadly, that is not the case today.

Sadly the moderation on the forum is going downhill since a while... Hope it is up to the mark soon..."stay hungry, stay foolish."
