  • [Photo Feature]: Voyage - 1840CCs goes Lansdwone

    Seneca

After we did the Ranikhet trip, we had the itch to ride again in the hills and without much thought Lansdowne was the place decided and the weekend of 20-21stDAY 1 :nd. It was actually quite surprising for me as I never expected. I actually felt good as I never celebrate my birthday but this time being with my close friends. It was their plan since the very starting of the trip. We had cake cutting and face painting ceremony in my room (I am still smiling while writing this).

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Wonderful beginning of the write-up Prat. Let me add up.

It was the second trip for me since I bought CBR in August and both of the rides to the hills - Ranikhet and now Lansdowne. Hills are really addictive. Since Ranikhet was my first ride to hills, I was a little apprehensive but in Lansdowne I was a little more comfortable with the corners, so I was enjoying. Though the roads were narrower than those in Ranikhet and also had gravel in them, we had to be extra careful. I am getting addicted to hills with every ride. The climate in Lansdowne was awesome pleasant in morning and cold in he night. Would have loved to stay there a little long but had time constraint.

Rest of the story would come up in installments.

                  DAY 2 :
The day started with me in fever as usual, Bishal woke me up and it was indeed difficult to come out of that warm quilt, but he asked me just to have a peek outside. I had a glance and jumped out of the bed with my camera. It was 6.15am in the morning, quite cold. It was me , Bishal, Siddhartha and Ankush who enjoyed clicking the beauty of the place with the rising Sun….and honestly the words that I write here are not enough to justify the beauty we saw there.

We clicked quite few pics and then started planning for the rest of the day. Another good part of the morning was that there were a group of sweet and cute looking girls were there, and we all know how boys behave when we see these beautiful creations.

Another reason to roam around them was that since last night our most orders for food or tea were delivered at room number 4 where the girls were staying.
In the mean time Lakshit and Prashant arrived making the 1840cc to 2170cc. We all had breakfast and then went to pay a visit to the church which was closed and then to the lake where we had some clicks. But trekking back to the hotel was tiresome. Shiwaan and Ankush were with me who helped me in my high temperature to reach the hotel.

As soon as we reached hotel, we geared up and started our journey back to home. The next incidents and experience is written by Shiwaan so I would like to stop here and will start posting the pics now on.

The first part that I put up said about my feeling about my ride to Lansdowne and the rest of the incidents in summary. Here comes the detailed story.

                    Preparation for the ride :
The planning for this ride began just after the Ranikhet ride. The reason being Bishal(Devilish) could not join us for the Ranikhet trip due to some personal commitments. Though we were planning a ride in November, when the news came in that Bishal will have to shift back to Hydrabad due to office work. So we had to pre-pone this ride to make it in October. Earlier the destination was Auli but lack of time made change the destination to Lansdowne.I was happy about it because any whichways Lansdowne was in my list of touring destinations. Now when we knew Bishal would leave, this ride became all the more important since we wanted to bid him farewell through a memorable ride. Earlier it was just me, Prateek, Bishal & Shekhar who wanted to ride but when we discussed the plan publicly at dhaba Ankush, Shiwaan and Sandeep joined in. Pawan was out this time due to medical reasons. Lakshit did not get permission to get out of town for 2 days on a bike. So he decided to join us in Lansdowne on Sunday with Prashant.

This was the preface for the ride. Next chapter coming up soon.

Day 1: Beginning of the ride
Since we were supposed to meet at Mohannagar, I opted to go to my Noida office so that I dont't get late like last time. Due to exitement for the ride, I wasn't able to concentrate on work. I know how I spent those 8 hrs in office. Finally, it was time when I was free from office and get hit the road. I reached Bishal's place to find Prat in fever and Shiwaan sleeping. I relaxed there for sometime and then got ready for the trip. We reached Mohannagar at 5 am to find Ankush already waiting there. Shekhar was yet to come and then I realised I was to call Sandeep at 3am which I forgot. So I immediately called him. In the mean time, Shekhar turned up. So we decided to move on without Sandeep and ride slow so that he could catch up with us soon.

Our ride started at 5.30am from Mohannagar. After tackling the early morning city traffic, we hit the highway and were cruising. Soon we reached Meerut by-paas toll where we took our first break. One thing which I found common in both my rides was the other road user starring at us with awe and ocassional wanabe local Rossi's wanting to race with us. All of this because of the riding gears we had put on and the the facy bikes. Shekhar's CBR600(Repsol) drew most of the attention. At Meerut bypass, Sandeep was able to catch up with us. There we had a small photo clicking session and then we moved on. We started munching miles at a good pace and soon we reached Roorkee where we took our breakfast break.

After a brief breakfast break, we started our final leg of the journey. We didn't realise and we took a wrong way( a longer one). So we asked a local guy and he directed us towards Najibabad. We entered into the city and had to face a lot of traffic. Again, we drew a lot of attention due to our fancy dressing. In Najibabad, Prateek felt some issue with his bike's chain. So we stopped to get it checked and the outcome was he had to get the chain replaced. While Prateek's bike was getting chain replacement, he noticed some oil leaking out of my bike. I was also feeling it while I was riding that the oil level must have dropped but avoided it since I didn't guess it would be so serious. Anyways to be on safer side, I bought myself a 1 ltr can of engine oil and decided to change it while the bike was cold the next day morning.

While we were getting Prat's bike fixed, a passerby stopped by seeing CBR600 and asked which bike is it, who are we, where we came from and where are we going towards? To which Ankush answered its Repsol's bike...lol...and we are hired by the company to test the bikes. The guy asked what how many engines the bike has to which Prat answered, it had 4 engines....rofl.

After getting Prateek's bike fixed, we moved on and finally reached the foothills of Lansdowne by 4 pm. Here we stopped for a small photoshoot and some tips to the debutants(Ankush & Shiwaan). Then the fun began with the hills, Though the roads where narrower than that we encountered in Ranikhet and also had a lot of gravel enroute, we still enjoyed riding in the hills and by 5 pm finally we made it to the Lansdowne market. The pollutionfree enviornment and the calmness of the place impressed me.

Finally, we got the rooms in Tip n top and checked in the rooms. Then we spent some quality time with each other and finally had dinner. We( me, Bishal & Shekhar) had planned to cut Prateek's b'day cake that day since it was his b'day on 22nd Oct. So we silently ordered cake without him knowing anything.
The day ended with Prat cutting his b'day cake 2 day in advance and then some facial work done to him with the same cake. Since all were dead tired with the whole day ride, all went to bed by 12.

This concludes day 1 of the ride. Day 2 would be coming up in sometime.
