  • [Photo Feature]: One Last Ride in Down Under

7 months of fun,7 months of memories and every second of those 7 months to cherish for lifetime. These were my life's one of the best days, where i lived my dream to ride in foreign Nation. My term was ending in AUS and my return was happening on 9th Feb 2013.Since i was returning back i sold my Helmet(Nitro Racing one) and was waiting to get a customer to sell my motorbike.Though i had applied for the leaves in the last week of Jan in advance,I wasn't sure that i am going to ride or not..as saving few hundred dollars was in agenda. But then i decided to live one last week in Down under on my own term on my own way.It was Friday,I went to PeterStevenMotorcycles and bought a KBC helmet in the name of shopping and on the other morning i was on the road..heading towards Ulluru - Northern Territory. It was very impractical to reach and come back Melbourne with number of days i had in my hand. But,I wanted to go as far as i can and then return.

Here is the route-map i followed.

I had to cut short the ride due to bad weather,Finance and bike issues. Here are the teasers for now.

    Murtho Forest Reserve

    Beautiful Landscapes en-route

Posergiri in Desert, bit awkward pose though

    Flinders Ranges National Park

    Aldinga Beach - Adelaide

Congrats Biru on doing so many rides in those few months you have been there. You have really done what a true passionate biker would do. Indeed a bold move to buy a bike & do what you love doing most even if it was for those few months. I guess on your CV you will have to ask - My job?...you mean what I do between rides?...

I know it must be mixed feelings to return to India, one is glad to come back to home and another is the missing of all those empty roads and beautiful vistas. Anyway keep the fire & passion alive for more overseas trips & rides.

        Safe travels.

                            Day 1 - Melbourne - Bendigo - Ouyen - Mildura

I had applied for 8 days leave in the Jan last week and i wasn't too sure what i am going to do with these holidays, because i had already sold my helmet couple of weeks back..which means if want to make any ride happen,i had to buy a new one. Also the bike was in well maintained condition and ready for sale, ride for 8 days means another hole in the pocket due to the servicing and making it ready for sale.Meanwhile i was also thinking to go to New Zealand and hire a motorbike and explore the beautiful country. But it was becoming a costly affair. On the other hand i was too lazy to do the visa formalities. While i was thinking on what to do with these 8 days..i realized that my Holidays is going to start from the next day.On the fine evening of that very Friday,I went to Peter Stevens motorcycle and bought a new helmet for 350 AUD.Bought a good one because i planned to carry it back to India.

This was only shopping i did, while returning back to India

After being in Australia for so long,I had explored all the places which were in 500-600 Kms proximity.Beaches,Snow mountains...I was craving to go towards the Desert, which is Western Australia.Initially Ulluru was there in my mind, but when i saw the distance..it seemed bit unpractical to me.And i did not wanted to just go and touch the place and come back.So i make a relaxed plan,in which i decided..I will go as far as i can towards the desert and then return.

                            Day 1 Map

I started from Melbourne on Saturday morning..Didn't decided where to stay for the night.Plan was to cover 500-600 kms for the day and then crash to bed.Roads in AUS were so good with so less vehicles plying on the roads..You just have to sit on the saddle and push the accelerator and brake sometimes to be within speed limits.

Butter smooth roads ..Sign board says 'Yawning,Take a powernap'..If roads are going to be so less interesting and straight and without any potholes..How a normal person can resist yawning and later on sleeping on the wheel

I crossed Bendigo and my first photo stop was Lake Tyrell.Lake Tyrell is Victoria's largest salt lake. The lake is quite ancient. It may have been formed by drifting sand blocking the passage of Tyrrell Creek. Over time it became a giant salt basin due to the flow of subterranean saline water and the run-off from Tyrrell Lake.

I moved ahead and stopped in Ouyen for evening breakfast. On all the rides i did in Australia,i had my lunch/breakfast/dinner in bakeries. Its cheaper that way and quantity of food serves its purpose

Between Ouyen to Mildura, wonderful cropping pattern.

I reached Mildura and started hunting for accomodation.Motels,B&B and Inn's were bit costly and the caravan park was full already.Luckily i got a caravan park just outside the city and there was only one cabin available for 55$.Name of the caravan park was "Sunraysia Holiday Park".It was quite cheaper as compared to what i was getting in the town area.

I went back to the town to celebrate on what i had saved from the accommodation deal.Came back after few rounds of beer and crashed to bed.

                            Cheers
