Day 2 - Mildura - Renmark - Port Pirie - Port Augusta
Map for today
Mildura region sits at the intersection of two states of Australia. It is the place where most of the country's dried fruit, grapes, citrus, almonds, pistachios, olives, carrots and asparagus are grown.Fruit picking is a very popular job here..people from all regions in Australia comes here for fruit picking job.And this is the reason why, most of the cheap accommodations are full here..atleast in the fruit picking season.
This was my accommodation for the night at Sunraysia Holiday Park.Just to explain where this 'Sunraysia' comes from "Mildura region is also called as Sunraysia".
Before starting towards Port Pirie,I paid my visit to some road side vineyards.
I continued ahead and reached Renmark, where i stopped for a coffee break.I started talking with the Shop owner and he advised me to check out the Murtho Forest Reserve.I followed the tourist sign boards and continued on the Murtho road, which took me to this offroad trail and there was a look out point on the right.
As seen from the look out tower.
I did not went ahead on the offroad trail, just to protect the chain as i had a long way to go.I came back on the Sturt Highway and started towards Burra.
Ahead of Barmera,i spotted another offroad trail going towards some lake whose name i dont remember.By the first sight of it,trail looked quite tempting..I immediately left the main highway and took the offroad trail to explore, what's out there. And there i witnessed some spooky views..those trees looks like they have come out straight from The Brothers Grimm movie.
After 2-3 Kms,this is what i found,on the other hand there was a lake too..where some people were having fun in their motor boats. How i wish my bike had some dual functionality, where it can change to motor boat whenever required. But,lets leave these things to movies..atleast for now.
