  • Bangalore - Ooty Bike Ride (June 2013)

Finally I decide to write my second travelogue on XBHP. The last one which I wrote was 3 years back when I had gone for bike trip to Uttarakhand. Corporate life saps lot energy, both mental and physical and sometimes we have to press the refresh button of our lives before the system crashes!!!

    So here it begins:

    Riders:
    1. Adhip Varma (XBHP ID: adp228)
    2. Vidur Pandit (Yet to register on XBHP)

    Destination: Ooty, Tamil Nadu

    Bikes:
    1. Pulsar 150cc DTSi (2007)
    2. FZ-S 16 (2012)

    Camera used: IPHONE 5

Pre-ride discussion made us list down a lot of destinations such as Chikamagalur, Mangalore, Munnar etc. Considering the budget we had, we decided for Ooty. I had gone to Ooty last year (2012) as well but that was by flight and then took a taxi from Coimbatore airport. This time I decided to visit this place by bike.

We did not know whether it was a right or a wrong decision to ride to Ooty knowing the fact that it’s raining en-route Ooty and the roads will not be rubber friendly at all. The biking keeda inside our heart was pumping the adrenaline and consequently, we decided to go ahead with the plan.

Re: Bangalore - Ooty Bike Ride (June 2013)

Apologies for the delay in posting the log on the thread.

Prince I have edited the post. Please have a look

        Day 1
: Getting up in the early in the morning at 3.30 am is not an easy task for a lot of people especially when they are used to the Bangalore weather a.k.a. natural air conditioner. I think it is the passion inside us (Bikers) which actually fuels our brains to get up and go for the ride.I and my friend Vidur had already packed our bags a day before so that we don’t miss out anything important in the last minute rush. Our riding jackets were clean and washed. So, we cranked our motorcycle engines and left it to idle for a minute which is important for smooth running of engine irrespective of the type of ride you do.

Now, we were deciding on the route to be taken to hit Mysore road. We had a lot of options but the shortest route was through the city as it saves time and there is no traffic early morning. I had no clue about the city route, so did a wise thing by following my friend till we reached Mysore Road. On our way, we were just praying that it should not rain but GOD was not in the mood listen and it started drizzling once we hit the Mysore Road. The thought of stopping and starting once the rain is over, came to my mind but I had decided to ride to Ooty non-stop which ultimately became an impossible goal to achieve as my partner had to stop for smoke. I also kept telling myself ‘If you don’t ride in the rain, you don’t ride’

In order to save your electronic gadgets like mobile and camera from the rain water, you can always carry small polythene packets. As far as the tire and tarmac chemistry was concerned, it was fine which ultimately boosted our confidence to take turns on the wet roads. Mysore road as always is good to ride on. After a smooth ride of 150+ kilometres, we reached Mysore. We took a left turn towards Ooty road from Mysore road which goes via Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary, after taking the turn we were riding on a 4 lane road which was completely deserted. Luckily it stopped raining which increased our speeds; consequently we had to experience the wind blast as well. It was for the first time that I was going see a wildlife sanctuary and that too on my bike.

I am posting some photos which we took on the way to Ooty, please have look.

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |

Day 2: We got up in the morning with a good cup of tea, thinking that it would have stopped raining and to our shock it was still drizzling. Anyways, got ready for the day and visited a church after a long time. I found peace in that place of worship. After doing the prayers, we did some photo session outside the church. Positing some photos of it.

The breakfast was yummy. We packed our bags as we had to head back home (Bangalore). On our way back, petrol tanks were refilled. I checked the tire pressure as well and everything was good to go. Checked out from the holiday home and thanked the manager there for his hospitality. But before starting back, we had a photo session in which clicked a lot of photos. Some of them are here:

Ooty is a beautiful place to visit over the weekend. The ride was coming to an end very fast because we only had two days for this. But it was super fun riding in the ghats and super challenging to ride in the rain. It seriously tests your patience and maturity as a rider. The bikes did a great job. We came back from the same route i.e. Ooty-Bandipur-Mysore-Bangalore. I do not prefer to ride in the night but this time we had to do that as we were already late. Finally reached home at around 10 pm.

So alas I have completed my second travelogue on an extended weekend. Stay tuned, there are many more rides to come in the way.

Ride Hard and Ride Safe! I am posting the remaining photos below.
