  • 700 KM

Last sunday, me and a pal of mine started off towards ddun from delhi at around 7:00 am. we stopped over for a halt at my place in meerut for about an hour and then pushed on towards ddun. two more stops on the way, one after muzzafar nagar bypass and one 30 km from ddun and we were at ddun at 3:00 pm. we drove very slow. 55-65 kmph. we wanted to reach in one piece rather than pieces ...

i was on my karizma, my friend was on his passion.

at ddun, we stayed at doon school. a very beautiful campus.

the next day we pushed off towards mussoorie, we stayed around 15-20 mins in mussoorie, had a bun omlette and some tea at a dhaba and pushed off towards dhanolti. which i think is roughly 30 kms from mussoorie. the road was quite desereted and on the way we caught quite a few good glimpses of a range of snow peaks ... gangotri, yamunotri etc. if i am not mistaken ... this road used to earlier be a part of the old indo-tibet trade route and one can see old buildings belonging to that period. on the way to dhanolti, i also saw snow lying on the road, a first for me. as i have never seen snow from up close.

after dhanolti, we headed back towards ddun, thru raipur. for around 10-15 kms the road was ok. it was completely desereted. just the two of us on our bikes. it was amazing. far from the madding crowd. after this, the bad patch started ... no tar on the road, just stones and sand ... this went on for another 6-70 km. the hills were completely deserted. no electricity lines, no telephone lines. very few ppl. if one has a serious mech break down here. god help you. this route it totally not recommeneded. there are no sites to see. if you just wanna get away from ppl and do off road riding, then go ahead. other wise no point. it's better to go back to mussoorie and from there ddun. the roads are good.

we retured to ddun that day at 5-6 i think. very tired and very shaken. but we'd had good fun.

both the bikes stood up well to the roads. the passion really surpirsed me... actually it has a very good frame. twin down tube. thats what helped it make it thru.

all in all a 700 km round trip. pics coming soon. i feel lazy scanning them.

will post pics today i guess.

tell me one thing. from dhanolti did you guys come back to mussoorie or did you guys push on to chamba, raipur then ddun ? b'cos that road was really really bad. there is absolutely nothing on that road. very very few houses/people in the 60 odd km strech! a very odd occurance in a place like india!

            hi fellas
me n 4 other frenz went to shimla-narkanda on 28th feb mpi zen.. had a 900km round trip..lots of fun... n lots n lots of snow.. in kufri as well as narkanda.. pics comin soon.. also got my zen stuck in snow.. ! was fun..
while going,on nh1,my zen maxed out at 146 speedo indicated in 4th gear which is 8 less then wat i managed an yr ago on jaipur highway.. but the car is gettin old now (nearing 1 lakh kms).. rest of the way, cruised at 110-115 with ac off on highways.. to end it all.. it took just 50.37 liters of petrol,ie,a mindblowing avg of alomost 18kmpl which included abt 550kms of highway drivin n the rest all hill driving!
i must say "CHAMPION!!" -- (remember the maruti ad on tv?)

narkanda is abt 60 km from shimla n kufri is abt 16km from shimla..
