                  Thanks very much sir.

The Charmadi ghat currently has both good and bad stretches. For few kms, it is pothole free and some kms have uneven surface & some potholes here and there but they are not very deep like in Shiradi ghats Two wheels can manage easily but four wheels will not enjoy so much. But like you know, those views make you forget the bad condition Once the descent begins the road condition improves, has smooth black tarmac.

                          Re: Its solo time!

                          Day 5..

                          1 Sep 2013..

                          10:30am..

On my last leg of journey towards Blore, when everything seemed right at the perfect pothole free roads of Kudremukh, my bike goes thud screeee bam crash and I am sliding and tumbling & making sounds like oww eww ahhh ooo phew

Dust settles down & I immediately stand up, thanks to Spartan riding gear but I was staring with wide open mouth at what was lying in front of me in a water drain on the side of the road.. of course my bike but on a never seen before angle.. with tyres facing the sky & fuel tank tank taking all the weight!! And the saddle bags had my laptop too!!

And I am 350+kms away from Blore!! This cant be happening!!

Okay, enough of this.. lets go back in time for happier moments shall we? :tourer:

                          Day 1..

                          28 Aug 2013..

After a lot of convincing at home, I finally got permission to ride solo to my hometown in Udupi. After bugging our @Phanikar for routes again and again (also bugged @nisnth and @ANUP WS), finally decided on going through charmadi or kudremukh, thanks a lot guys!

Wanted to start off by 5am but woke up at 530am ! Finally got ready and was on the move by 645am. Damn, Blore traffic had already started by then and it was an irritating ride till nelamangala. Once on the highway NH75, I decided to make up for lost time, but surprise & surprise, the bike was struggling above 7k rpm! Whaat?? Now what the hell is this? Then realized I was testing GS150R's filter on my bike & had forgotten to revert to stock filter before the ride! Heights of foolishness!! This new filter comes with a plastic flap on the front, which had to be removed for extra air & on removing it the bike was back to normal Phew! What a mistake but a good learning nonetheless - "A choked air filter causes reduced performance at higher rpms"

A few pics after fixing the filter..

                          My multistrada!!

Had breakfast at Mayura, the waiter was curious of my trip and had to answer many usual questions..where? why? how far? why solo? etc etc Started off from there by 930am..

Later part of the ride to Hassan was pretty boring and the fun begins once you hit the Belur road..

                          Reached Belur temple..

                          Getting the blessings from outside..

                          Enroute Mudigere..

Since it was a weekday (wednesday) there was very little traffic. And I still hadnt decided which route to take, either through charmadi ghats or through kudremukh. Whichever I take now, will be taking the other one on the return journey.

But I somehow missed the deviation for Kalasa and ended up riding on Charmadi.

A few pics on the pre ghat section..

Imagine living in that house!! For a few days of course

                          Ah! Corners, corners, corners!

This was at 1230 in the noon!!

The road conditions at Charmadi were kinda ok, not really bad but not great either. Few stretches it is good & then some uneven/pothole surface for few kms. Once the descent begins the roads are in best condition.

                          Pics at Charmadi view points..

The later portion of the route through Ujire - Karkala - Udupi was all two lane roads again with both good and bad stretches.

The pic of the good stretch post karkala..

                          Self click

Finally reached home by 430pm with a few butt breaks. Trip reading was 441kms.

And thanks to @Phanikar, I had learnt the importance of carrying wet/facial tissues on long rides. One swipe with it on your face and goodbye sleepy eyes! And once you cross the ghats, you will be blasted with hot and humid winds and these tissues are a must to keep your face fresh and will enable you to ride better.
Also I was riding with full rain gear, both pants and jacket and it did rain at most places post Charmadi which was quite refreshing. The rain liners also performed flawlessly.

Anyways, it was now time to relax at home.. Rest of the story.. coming soon
                          Ride hard.. Ride safe.. Always!

Time to finish what I started

                            Day 5

                            1 Sept 2013

                            10:35 am

I was cursing myself for the foolish & irresponsible mistake (though the reason for fall is still a mystery) I had nothing to do but wait till someone comes for help as I single handedly wasnt able to lift & overturn the bike from the ditch.

And all I could think of was would the bike be rideable?

Man I have so much distance to cover!

What should I do if the bike doesn’t start?

Should I ship it in a goods vehicle?

How will I reach blore? I am in the middle of western ghats!

How will I tell my parents about this if the bike isn’t rideable? (who were already scared of me riding solo).

And my laptop is in the goddamn saddle bag!! Shit! Shit! Shit! Shit!

                            OK, back in time now..

                            Day 1

                            28 Aug 2013

                            After reaching home..

It was Krishna Janmastami that day, meaning lots to eat that night

                            Krishna hiding behind the flowers..

After shoving in as much food as possible, it was time to call it a night.

Next day was pretty much lazing around the home. In evening we went to a famous temple near Kundapur. Here are a few pics clicked on the way.

The is the best panning shot I was able to get of the speeding train...

                            The evening sky...

That was pretty much it for the day...

In the next log, I will show you how the place below looks like..

And a video of the road to reach there

Till then.. Bye & ride safe..
