    Introduction:
The Bangalore Ooty ride in the month of June 2013 was amazing and very challenging. Continuing our pursuit to ride more and explore more places, I and my friend decided to ride to Mangalore which is around 360 kilometres from Bangalore. The feedback as far as the road from Bangalore to Mangalore was excellent. We expected the weather to be hot and humid as it was on the coast.

About the city: Mangalore is a city of Karnataka state which is located between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea. The city is one of the biggest ports in India and is known for its sea food.

    Riders:
    1. Adhip Varma (ADP)
    2. Vidur Pandit

    Destination: Mangalore

    Bikes:
    1. Bajaj Pulsar 150cc DTSi (2007)
    2. FZ-S 16 (2012)

Camera Used: IPhone 5 (8 megapixel) and Nokia Luma 720 (6.7 Megapixel)

Thanks to Monk for approving the thread.
        @chaosaddict here it goes!

        A Day Before:
As usual I came back from office late in the night, thanks to my colleague who wanted to buy an Android phone and was confused with the colour. Even men are also confused while shopping as much as women are. Anyways, I reached home by 11 pm and had only around 4 hours sleep before the ride began. I and my friend packed our bags in advance to avoid early morning hassles.

Day 1 (31 Aug 2013): It’s 3 am and my mobile phone alarm is screaming in my ear. I did not put it on snooze but switched it off. That was my mistake and my friend who is very much disciplined pulled my blanket away to wake me up. Finally I woke up at 3.30 am and rushed to get ready. We both were ready by 4 am along with the gears and bike papers were also arranged. Our bikes were already clean and we just had to crank their engines. Headlights, indicators, luggage and papers checked. Of course fuel as well!!!! Idling of the engine is important for 30 seconds so that engine becomes smooth. Biking makes us go crazy!!!!

The route was pretty simple. Please find below the details:

Hormavu (Bangalore)> Hebbal > Yeshwanthpur (T Point) > Right turn towards Tumkur Road > Exit on the left to Bangalore Mangalore Road

After finishing coffee, we started to cover the rest of the journey and this time music was there to entertain. Apple Earpods designed with human touch, a good companion. When the sun was up, the road and scenic beauty was mind blowing. The road looked endless and both the sides of the roads were full of coconut trees. The land was lush green probably due to the monsoon season. A photo from the tarmac:

So continuing with the Day 1 story, we kept on riding on the highway and we also came across a lot of diversion where the roads were a bit bumpy but negligible. The number of toll gates which were under construction was substantial. This actually means once they are functional, will burn the pockets of the car drivers. Hahaha!!!! We encountered a stretch of road where the scenic beauty was mesmerizing. We stopped there and click some pics.

After finishing about 150 kilometres, we were just 100 kilometres far away from Mangalore and were expecting the Ghat section tarmac to be comfortable and curvy for the leans. We made a pit stop to have tea. This was actually the worst part of the journey to and fro. The road from Sakleshpur to Mangalore is actually non-existent. I don’t have words to explain the condition. The only few things I can say is that it is a 20 kilometres stretch, my bike’s speedometer stopped and speed did not even reach 20 kmph. I checked with my friend for the alternate routes but all were an extra 50+ kilometres and time was a constraint for us. My bike is old so did not really worry about the damage but was worried about the less than a year old FZ-S 16. Luckily nothing happened to the bikes except my speedometer. So, finishing that terrible stretch of 20 kms, then the road became smooth. We could also feel the weather change, it gradually became humid but thankfully the breeze was still blowing. I opened my jacket vents to let some air in. Unfortunately, we did not click photos of that damaged road.

Finally we reached Mangalore and weather was comfortable. Hunger was killing us and desperation was multiplying, so whatever restaurant came on the way, we stopped there and to our surprise it was KFC! I must tell you the Mangalorian ladies are beautiful. No wonder Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is from here. Post lunch, we took about 15 minutes to search the hotel. We had booked a room at “The Gateway Hotel (Taj)” from Makemytrip and probably had got the best price online. When we entered the hotel premises the security stopped us assuming that we are not customers. He had to be explained that we had booked the hotel and then he understood, thus directed us to the parking lot in the basement. The hotel service was very impressive. Some photos of the hotel room:

The room was amazing and very comfortable. After dumping our luggage, the next task was to straighten our backs on the super comfy beds but ended up sleeping till 7 in the evening. We decided to go out for dinner. We came across a restaurant namely ‘Palkhi’ and parked our bikes there. The facility was good and spacious. I and my friend preferred the first floor to have dinner which was breezy. There was a group of people who were from Infosys, who had come to have dinner and those guys were a complete entertainment package. That group had an amazing singer who sang a good amount of numbers and made our evening beautiful. Everyone cheered for him including us. As far as food is concerned, it was delicious. So this is how Day 1 came to end. This place is worth visiting. I am posting some more photos.

Re: Bangalore - Mangalore Ride (Aug - Sep 2013)

Day 2 (1 Sept 2013): Next day we woke up early around 7 am as we had slept in the afternoon the previous day. Without getting ready we went outside to have breakfast on the bikes. My friend was searching for Neer Dosa all over the market place but could not find it, so finally settled for the masala dosa and me plain dosa in a very small restaurant in the market. The smell of fish was all over the place, which is not very surprizing keeping in mind it is a port city. After having breakfast, we went back to the hotel and explored the premises of which I have already uploaded the photos. Then came the ultimate thing, shower. I spent around 15 minutes to take bath in the shower. If you have paid so much for a room, then you should make use of that value.

After getting ready, it was time to check out from the hotel, I was not willing the leave the place as it was so amazing. We started our journey back to Bangalore at around 12 pm. My speedometer was not working so thought of finding some mechanic who can repair this but unfortunately it was a Sunday! Anyways then I decided to get it repaired in Bangalore. We decided to go back the same route and face those rough 20 kms patch in the Ghats. With just around 250 kilometres left to reach Bangalore. We clicked some photos more:

We reached Bangalore at 9 pm. The complete trip there was no rain but once we entered the city, it started raining heavily. The ride was very good and adventurous. The bikes performed well. Thanks to my friend and riding partner.

We are planning for more trips in the coming months!

Cheers to biking and XBHP. Ride safe and always wear helmet!
