Day Four: Rameshwaram - Somewhere near Dindigul: A distance of 230 km

Good Morning Rameshwaram. We woke up real early because we did not want to miss the sunrise at the Rameshwaram beach. Inspite of people not willing to wake up (me being one of them though ), we all woke up by 05:00 AM and got ready. By 05:30 AM we were outside the hotel and slowly and lazily we made our way to the beach. The moment we reached the shore, we 3 were stunned by the view. This is what we saw

It was a pure wallpaper material and with cool breeze all along, we were indeed enjoying the best sunrise ever . On our right side was Agni Teertham where thousand of people gathered to take bath on the holy waters of Bay of Bengal and do the rituals. Time went by and the sky was becoming clearer, and I kept on clicking more and more pictures, mostly solo. Putting some of the scenic beauties here

We came back by 07:00 AM and went for a breakfast. We knew it was going to be a long day for us so we ended up having a good and heavy breakfast. Took bath, and headed towards the Rameshwaram temple. It is too bad that they do not allow cameras or cellphones in the temple because it is an absolute masterpiece! Rameshwaram temple is known for its world's longest pillared corridors among all Hindu temples and it was an absolute delight to watch them. We caught an elephant doing a pradakshina (circumambulation the sacred places) and we ran after it like kids in joy . I was however able to get only one pic of the temple, that too from outside

Next in line was the jolly boat ride run by the Government from the jetty. We got the tickets at a nominal rate of 60/- and the boat was supposed to make a big circle in the sea and come back (to and fro time of 30 minutes). Nothing much to say here, the ride was pretty much good, especially since we were able to see the Rameshwaram skyline from the sea itself and it was a good treat for the eyes as well. Some pictures goes here.

Some good 30 minutes passed by fast. We were now ready for our journey back to Bengaluru. Again, since we were starting late, we knew it was not possible for us to reach Salem (most probably it was going to be Dindigul again). We rode as fast as we can until the first mishap happened to the 3 of us. A road was under construction with one side having fresh tar and the other side was having the normal road so both way traffic was diverted to the one side of the road. Some stupid truck drivers decided to ignore that and in that case, stone chips were flying off in the air. Couple of them hit me and my avy's headlight, resulting to a crack on the headlight glass . I had no option but to pull over and scream in my mind. My ride mate was very kind to click this picture of me sobbing in front of the damage to my motorcycle .

Anyways, it was already night and we could not find any service centers, neither local or the Bajaj ones open and since it was already around 08:30 PM we knew we had to bunk soon. We were nearing Dindigul and honestly, we did not want to stay at the same crappy hotel. Instead one of us came up with the idea to stay near the roadside lodges which would save a lot of time tomorrow as we can start early and we can start first. We agreed with him and luckily few kms ahead, we indeed found one decent enough lodge to bunk.

I was unhappy with how the day ended (obvious reason that the mishap happened ) and we all three went off to sleep. Plans to visit the Mettur Dam tomorrow was in our books but before that, the plan for me was to fix the headlight glass!

Day 5 to be updated soon...

Day 5: Dindigul - Bengaluru (via Mettur): A Total Distance of 400 km

Woke up early in the morning..again. This time it was around 03:00 AM. We wanted to beat the heat as much as possible and moreover, we had to reach Bengaluru by any means today (mostly because we had taken off from office only till this day). By 04:00 AM we were all out on the highway on the way towards Mettur. I must admit, the morning breeze added with the light red sky was having a magical feeling. I was loving it! . After some time, one of the riders halted because he was getting some sleep, so we immediately decided to have some tea/coffee. Pulled over to the next chai stall and that gave me a chance to click few pictures

After the short and much needed break, we continued our journey towards Mettur. We wanted to cover the distance fast so we finished the next 150 kms fast with only one break in the middle. We reached Mettur by 11:00 AM, our entire body full of sweat (Mettur is a damm humid place! ). No breeze, not even near the dam. We drank lots and lots of water and parked our motorcycles under a tree. An attempt to enter over the barrage failed, because since last year, due to threats and security reasons, entering the barrage is prohibited . Hence quenched our thirst by clicking some pictures from sides and some corners

No of us were happy of what we saw and we wanted more! We asked the security guard about a better view of the Dam and he gave us directions to a park from where we can see the other side of the Dam which according to him, was far better. We did not waste a single minute but scooted off from there. I was seeing a ray of hope as I was disappointed seeing the first glimpse of this Dam. The way to the park was indeed interesting with a small uphill downhill road though and we did stop at couple of places to take few pictures. Things were getting better for me now .

We reached the park and we were elated to see the view of the Dam in front of us. Ofcourse a better view and we were thanking the Security Guard who guided us to this place. Some pictures of this place.

We ended up spending a quality time of 1 hour, admiring the beauty of the Dam and its surroundings. We now, do not regret coming to this place and the extra miles we covered off from the main highway. By 01:00 PM we were all set to go back and now the priority was to fix the headlight glass for me. Luckily we were able to find one local mechanic who had a RX 100 glass with him and it fitted right about perfectly to the Avenger glass. After another 30 minutes of hard work by the mechanic, the glass was fit perfectly and I was happy as well. He charged only a mere 50 bucks for the entire service he did (glass cost 30/-) .

Started off from Mettur shortly after things were set and halted over to a dhaba for lunch near Dharmapuri. The highway was looking splendid here with a hill on the backdrop so could not stop myself from clicking this picture.

A light lunch this time because we were all drenched out to the core after the dehydration we had in Mettur. We then continued our last leg towards Bengaluru. Who knew there was a second mishap on our way near Krishnagiri .

One of our riders had a puncture (a Bullet this time) and he was actually lucky to have it pretty much near to Krishnagiri. Now I awarded him back with a picture of his motorcycle

It took us another 45 minutes to fix his tyre (a generous mechanic nearby helped us with his toolkit and expertise) and we were back on track again. It gave me enough time though to click some last set of pictures for this journey around Krishnagiri.

2 hours of long ride from Krishnagiri, cutting through the traffic in Hosur and the office traffic in Electronics City, Bengaluru led us home, finally. I was dead tired now but beyond that I was more excited that I was able to complete this awesome journey to the Lost World. I would not start off with long ending quotes but I would now definately take the sign off from here. All I can say is that this trip had made a mark in my touring career and I am looking forward to more trips like this in my near future. These journeys are so memorable that they indeed take a long time to fade of from your memory, rather I feel this will never do.

          Until the next tour..

          THE END

Bro, I must say you completely misdirected me when you said the best pics were already up by Day 3... You had plenty more wallpaper material up your sleeve... Superb stuff.

I thought you came back from Mettur to Malavalli and Kanakpura Rd... You tracked back from Dharmapuri and Hosur... The fun part comes further from Mettur towards 'Male mahadeshwara Betta' - MM Hills - road gets exquisitely twisty and the weather a whole notch cooler as you get up the plateau.

Anyway... Brilliant stuff Suvra... Missed riding with you on this.

haha..thank you, thank you. about the path taken while coming back, yes we thought of taking the MM hills route but that was a longer one and people were all drained out due to the immense humidity at the mettur dam . we asked for dharmapuri and one local person said it is just 30kms ahead. we were hungry as well so we did not have much choice but to track back to the highway and reach home asap . but i agree with you, that route is simply mindblowing and it is already in my riding list which I am going to try soon
