@A_n_i. My team is planning a grand Seven Sisters and Bhutan for Feb/Mar 2013, typo corrected to 2014, and the search for info & imagery led me to view your log.

The photos are simply superb. I too own a DSLR (Canon 1100D with std lens) which is used more by my kids than by me but in your hands, the camera has become a precision guided munition! The time lapse images are nice, those of the dancers are beautiful, capturing their nuances very well but my personal favourite were the Paro valley shots. Truly, my friend, in this case, the image is worth a thousand words. The one with the wood smoke rising in the still air instantly conveyed an atmosphere of calmness and tranquillity. The one with the Sun breaking thru clouds was like an invitation. May I copy these photos to my computer and use them as screensavers? Really lovely photos.

Do write a little more about documentation, petrol, hassles, hotel rates etc.

Lovely, lovely photologue. Thanks for the visual feast.

      Ride safe, live strong.

A_n_i. Is it not possible to return to India via Wangdue Phodrang - Damphu Town - Sarpang - Bongaigaon?

Does one have to return by the main route?

Hey man! This is amazing stuff. I got my first bike - the Duke 390 a month ago. Sitting in office right now, i'm already doing some basic planning. You've had me raring to go!

The pictures are simply phenomenal. Particularly loved the lighting in some of the landscape shots. The portraits were good too - the archers' shots. As an amateur photographer I can imagine the patience required to get the composition, lighting and other elements just right.

                  Kudos to a brilliant trip!

I think I am falling short of words for praising the pictures. They themselves depict a story. You are great the way you captured all. Superb composition and I like the one, shot at Paro from he river bed with the river, the most. Also the trail ones are to good too !!! Hope I can learn something from your shots and do some real good worthful photography.

I do have some small queries though:

                      1. Why you took the Burdwan-Suri-Dumka-Dalkhola route instead of Burdwan-Rampurhat-Farakka-Dalkhola/Krishnanagar-Berhampore-Farakka-Dalkhola routes?
                      2. What prime lenses you used for this trip?
Thanks a bunch, Arnab. Really appreciate you saying that. I'm glad I found that opening to the riverbed I love shooting waterscapes, but my flickr stream is a mess right now. So feel free to check out similar work here : http://www.facebook.com/pseudo.showc...3271463&type=3

                      To answer your questions:

                      1. Because the other route is a complete mess right now. Specially the raiganj dalkhola stretch. So I took the dumka-bhagalpur route, although it was longer.

                      2. I did not carry any of my primes. Just two lenses, 10-24mm and 70-200mm f2.8

I appreciate you saying that, icemang! Thank you so much. I'm humbled.

As soon as I'm done with the photos, I'll type down a small but comprehensive guide to riding Bhutan. Meanwhile, you can go through the trip logs as well, they will contain valuable information. As a matter of fact, I'll upload a video of riding western bhutan, soon! Should give you an idea.

Yes you should be able to take that route. But it all depends upon what policy the Immigration department adopts at that moment. And how good are you at convincing them. Remember, and they will also remind you often "Sir, this is not India". For example, I wanted to exit via samdrup. But for strange reason, I was not allowed to. So I had to ride back from Ura and exit via Zhemgang route, which was quite an experience.

Congratulations on getting the D390. Hope you get to ride it to Bhutan!

Really glad you like the photographs. I'm also trying to learn and make better images, always. Portraitures are not really my thing, but Bhutan was compelling enough to make a few. Thanks!

Alrighty then. I started riding from Kolkata, took the Dumka-Bhagalpur route. Entered Bhutan via Phuntshelling, rode from Haa to Ura exploring most of the country. Had to make my exit through the zhemgang route. Then rode back home. I'll not post any day to day logs as such. I'll share the photographs and accompanying texts in 4-5 parts, in which the ride was actually divided. Thanks for looking.

I really appreciate you saying that, razrVG! Because like ladakh, the primordial goal here too was riding and exploring the kingdom of Bhutan. And that challenging. So although the logs look like photo essays, they are in fact ride reports. Thanks a lot.
